One of the oldest races on the calendar and without that gap from 2009-2011 it would have had an ever bigger history.
The route remained rather similar in the past seasons and it`s 4 hill stages and 3 sprinter days. Without a TT, the pure puncheurs of the PCT division are here, well most of them at least.
Almost the complete top5 from the last two seasons are here (Just TvG is missing). Hence those are yet again the top favourites.
This first of all is Froome, reigning champion and riding for the home team Fablok.
It won`t be easy to defend though as McCarthy, Flügel, Schreurs, Lutsenko or Anuar Aziz are just as strong over the hills!
And the list could be ontinued with TdU runner up Ulissi or 2016 GC winner Dowsett. Then also Costa, Klemme, Betancourt, Waeytens or Izagirre in that range.
And many many more following just a bit later such as Barbin, 2nd in 2016 or Yates, 3rd in 2016 and 6th in 2017.
| Hi | Sp | Acc | | Hi | Sp | Acc | McCarthy | 81 | 65 | 74 | Bystrom | 79 | 68 | 76 | Froome | 81 | 53 | 73 | Barrio | 79 | 65 | 67 | Anuar Aziz | 81 | 67 | 71 | Bilbao | 79 | 71 | 75 | Flügel | 81 | 68 | 74 | Prevar | 79 | 67 | 73 | Schreurs | 81 | 71 | 74 | Juul-Jensen | 78 | 66 | 79 | Lutsenko | 81 | 72 | 81 | Bellis | 78 | 74 | 75 | Ulissi | 80 | 74 | 75 | Caruso | 78 | 70 | 77 | Izagirre | 80 | 60 | 64 | Barbin | 78 | 71 | 76 | Waeytens | 80 | 66 | 73 | Dyrnes | 78 | 65 | 77 | Dowsett | 80 | 66 | 71 | Levarlet | 78 | 62 | 66 | Klemme | 80 | 66 | 66 | Moazemi | 78 | 65 | 73 | Costa | 80 | 69 | 72 | Boily | 78 | 68 | 74 | Betancourt | 80 | 67 | 74 | Diggle | 77 | 64 | 70 | Chaves | 79 | 58 | 72 | Yates | 77 | 75 | 80 |
Sprinter wise 3 chances even though 1-2 have some late bumps that make it more difficult for them, hence it can`t hurt, if you are rather decent over short climbs as well.
Stat wise Vanderbiest the strongest with a lot of riders ery similar behind him. Itami on paper the strongest, palmares wise Granjel Cabrera, Lavoine or Bouhanni the best while others such as Kragh Andersen simply are young and have their first big season here.
Boivin, Alaphilippe, Redecker would be the best hill specialists while also Granjel Cabrera though isn`t that bad neither on tougher stages.

Amazing how many of the 2016 CT top guns have graduated to PCT and are back all together! Shocked at the no-mention of Diggle in the written part on the history, a vital part of that class
Would love to see Dyrnes and Barbin punch above their weight, especially the former at his team's home race! And supporting Diggle ofc and Costa as well. Thanks for a nice preview roturn, looking forward to the reports!

Whoa wait... this can't be right... I have a sprinter that should be in contention for some wins? Regardless really looking forward to this as it looks like points might be available for us here, which would be a huge surprise!

Win Goal and we don't even get a mention in the preview. This will go well
Anyway, i hope that Bystrom can fight for a place between 8th and 12th, while also having Levarlet, Duchesne and Barrio in the Top50 to give me some depth points. No Roelandts here, so some breakaway action would be nice

A strong field here for the GC so I'll hold hope that Caruso is able to do something with the help on Zingle & Le Gac. Also hoping Bouhanni & Lobato can achieve something in the sprints.

Strong field. GC should be a lottery. Interested to see how Lutsenko goes though! Only 6 guys for us due to a mega almost double triple clash

Can't see past Lutsenko here, but I'm rooting for McCarthy (kinda obviously). The startlist promises a tight decision for the GC though and I can imagine some changes throughout the seven stages with a few favorites probably struggling on a day or two.
Thanks for the nice preview. Kinda cool to have a startlist with so many riders, who already have a TdP history.

We won't win anything and this won't be a zeropointer. Anything between that seems to be possible
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

We're fully based around Schreurs here. Seems like he could be one of the most important contenders here, so hopefully he lives up to that. With Klemme he won't lack support, so all ingrdients for success are there. GC top 5 should be our goal here.

Hoping Prevar can do something similar as he did in the TDU, a top 10 would be very much welcomed.

Home race, but we also stuff up here. Maybe Dyrnes does an LLS by getting a stage win then doing nothing for the rest of the year, would be fun. At least we weren't dumb enough to set it as a win goal this time round.
Also brought Sobota but doesn't look like anything will happen for him in this field.
Not sure who to pick for the win, Ullisi maybe or Lutsenko is the obvious one, kinda hope Froome makes sure the home teams take the title again though. Thanks for the in-depth preview Roturn!

Well, here we go... Lutsenko has to perform in pretty much every single race to keep our hopes up. With Kinoshita not here and this race being our win goal, I think I'll be unhappy with anything but a win.
Will it happen though? Doubt it. He's simply not "better" enough to guarantee a win on a bad day. But since spots 2-4 pretty much score the same, I guess it wouldn't look too bad if he manages to only get a podium.
Fingers crossed now! |

Thanks for the preview roturn.
Excited to see what new signing Bilbao can do in this year's puncheurs field! Also brought Boonratanathanakorn, who won a stage from the break here last year. Would be great to see him try to repeat it. |

This looks worse than our Top 10 hopes, forget about the win goal. Hoping Costa gets into the top 10 and some backup points from Navardauskas.
Thanks for the preview!

Startlist looking pretty good. Juul-Jensen obviously well below the top guys on the startlist, like he always is, but hopefully with some aggressive racing he'll overpeform that, like last year, even if not to the same extent as last year.
Very excited for AKA's chances here though! DUC was his first race but with that field he was never gonna do anything. Now though, he has a legitimate chance at some top 10's, maybe even a top 5. If he could do that, I'd be very excited. He's got 3 chances, so let's make them count!
Thanks for the great preview Roturn!

Need a big race from Flügel for GC and Haller in the sprints to kick start Kraftwerk's season.

Hope Bellis can get some luck here and kickstart our season with a top 10 GC here, with a strong startlist though - that will be difficult.
No sprinter brought here, so I expect to join some breakaways

Awesome win from Hermans <3 Cool to see Diggle attack, shame that he's not a leader and lost time, maybe it gives him more of a free role even.
