The Ruta America del Sur goes into its 3rd edition. 8 days of mainly hilly stages with some sprinter days and a 4km prologue to start with some time gaps already.
Being C2HC rated, you`d expect a top CT puncheur field. In reality the very best decided for other races or couldn`t effort 8 race days that late in the season. Hence some 2nd tier puncheurs will be really glad to see none of the big CT riders here as Klemme, Dowsett and Barbin all decided against this race.
Instead the top riders are Lejman, Hategeka and Yates. So two teams of probable promotion and might grab big points here to seal it.
Chiquita and MOL also with the strongest teams here in general and could be the race winners due to their depth.

3 sprinter days is enough for some 2nd tier sprinters to enter the race as well.
Some of those are quite comfortable over hills and hence might grab some bonus seconds here and there as also have good chances on some of the easier hill stages of course. GC chances are high then for the likes of Yates, Favilli, Geschke, Milan or Bole as example.

Last but not least the prologue specialists, who will try to get the GC lead early on. Some great time trialists here surprisingly including the big favourite Yatsevich for day 1.

Pretty much the Tour of Hainan of the MG season.
Xero and Laposte will struggle missing this race, while MOL looks set to gain a lot with likely a podium and possibly two in the top ten. Hopefully Isostar can get points with Mezgec and Bole interesting options for most stages and Tennant a chance to take yellow on the first day. If the promotions go further down Sauber could get 3 in the top ten as well or CycleYorkshire could win with Tiernan-Locke so it will be a very interesting race in terms of the promotion.
Yates is the obvious pick to win, but I'll go with Hugentobler as a more interesting pick.
Thanks for the nice preview Roturn

Last race of the season for us. Hoping to end with a bang.
This puncheurs field is pretty weak thank god. Normally we're lucky to get 1 rider in the top 10, but here we might get a great depth score. Manarelli should also bring home some spring points.
Thanks for the preview roturn

The hope is that Chiquita and Isostar don't score at all, but unfortunately it's seeming like a big race potentially for them.

That's an awesome startlist for Podium Ambition. Our final race of the season was one we have to do well in. And that just became a fair bit easier than if we were facing the bigger Trio. Still not easy, but there's good points there to be taken.
Yates has had a brilliant season, wouldn't it just be fitting to go out on top? Should get off to a flier in the Prologue before hitting the flat roads he can handle. Plus the hilly days suit him, with relatively simple finishes where Simon can show off his finishing speed.
From the team, a stage win or two would be a good start. A high GC placing is a must from a Title perspective. Nardin has the potential to mix it up, and Robov is coming along as a hilly rider. I'm trying to not get my hopes up, but we can feel the title...
Time to shine. The sprinters and classics men have been the stars of the Podium Ambition season. Can the hill men seal the deal? 8 days, on last push.
Clear Eyes. Full Heats. CAN'T LOSE!

This has got to be Yates race to lose, the hill stages don't look that hard in general and that is where he shines best and without the big 3 present he has to be the favourite.
I'd like to think that Hugentobler will steal a stage win somewhere, stage 3 looks most likely, and it would be nice to see him challenge for a strong GC to help cap off what ahs ben an amazing season for him and to keep alive our top 10 hopes and promotion dreams. If we are lucky then Muhlberger might also make a break or we will prove we have depth by getting 3 in the top 15, I don't think 3 in the top 10 is quite as doable as trek does but if we get the luck then who knows what could happen.
That said if we do miss out on promotion this season I can't wait to have Chavanne back Maxed to wreck the prologues next year, races like this would give us a nice boost in points from stage wins and his ability to hold GC leads on the flat stages following.
P.S. Am I the only one that thinks Stage 2's late short climb makes it look harder than Stage 4?

Hoping for a win or two to finish of the season. We have a lot of opportunity in stage 1 and the sprint stages with Von Hoff. I'm sure we will have a good race here!

@sammy I guess so too, stage 3 should be the decicive in terms of GC I fear...
big problems for us as both Yatsevich and Geschke (+Favilli) turn up here on terrain we would've been favourized otherwise (hilly sprints, Prologue)
still, we have a rather strong team here...Tennant - Bole - Mezgec could make up for a really strong train here, possible the strongest besides Chiq
I fear MOL here though, a potentially huge race for those with Favilli, Hategeka and their so far often lucky season with hilly breakaways. Ticos only look as second tier scorers here, but they did so too in Faso. LaPoste and Xero not participating is perfect for us, especially Xero could've been HUGUE here. Sauber might be too far away as well as cycleYorkshire, but with an outstanding race they might fight for 6th as well. But as mentioned, the major fear here surely is MOL with their strong squad.
Last but not least: It'll be either Yates or Yatsevich...damn that guy made us suffer so often this season.

Hopefully Rocchetti can do something here if we wants a ride next season. Not justifying his wage and it could be spent elsewhere so he needs to show me he deserves a contract.

Good start. Yates has gained on all his threats, bar Montaguti who is a couple of seconds ahead. Couldn't ask for more to start with, lots more racing to come here.
Stoenchev again slightly dissapointing. But he keeps plugging away and we keep him under contract. The man will eventually be max'd, and when that happens he'll be just as useless
No gif for this stage, not worth it.

Surprisingly good prologue from Matthews. Hoping the rest of the team will perform the same way through the next 7 stages!

I'm happy with that. Gunman just wasn't strong enough but a podium finish and Flens in the top 10 as well. Keep it up boys!

No riders for the TT here, just hope JTL can have some good legs and bag a win or two and a good GC here as we need the pts at the end of the season...
