Only two previous editions of the Tour of Ukraine but the winners are quite popular. Dan Craven in 2014 and LL Sanchez last season. Both are at the start yet again for this years edition and how could it be any different, both belong to the top favourites.
Another rider on the "to watch" list is Yevgene Nepomnyachsniy. 5th and 3rd so far for him and hence he surely hopes for this trend to be continued.
The favourites probably can be divided into those two lists. First a group of pure puncheurs, then a group of allrounders, that might be a bit weaker on the hills but therefore have strong time trial skills.
Flügel on the left clearly standing out as he is the best puncheur by far. His TT is not that bad but average at most, so he might actually gap the others on the 2 hill stages, which is absolutely needed for him as 45km of TT is rather long.
On the right LLS and Craven were mentioned. Almost more interesting though the likes of Dekker and Bibby. Both are superb time trialists and still quite strong on the hills. Maybe even the two top favourites for the GC here. Compal clearly could need another HC win after Österreich to jump over the relegation line. Konovalovas makes it a very strong dup with Nepomnyachsniy while Vontobel surely needs Hollenstein to deliver with Zardini as backup as they are one of the teams in huge danger if Compal finishes strong.
| Hill | TT | | Hill | TT | Flügel | 81 | 65 | Roy | 78 | 72 | Caruso | 78 | 57 | Sanchez Gil | 78 | 74 | Waeytens | 78 | 64 | Craven | 77 | 74 | Borges | 78 | 60 | Bibby | 76 | 77 | Roux | 78 | 62 | Dekker | 76 | 79 | Chaves | 77 | 68 | Konovalovas | 76 | 75 | Beltran | 77 | 66 | Grivko | 75 | 73 | Bratashcuk | 77 | 58 | Hollenstein | 75 | 73 | Edet | 77 | 59 | Gallopin | 74 | 74 | Afonso | 77 | 58 | Teklehaimanot | 74 | 74 | Le Gac | 77 | 60 | Navardauskas | 74 | 76 | Prevar | 77 | 62 | Dennis | 74 | 76 | Zardini | 77 | 67 | Vasyliv | 74 | 72 | Zingle | 77 | 68 | Omarsson | 74 | 73 | Dieteren | 77 | 58 | Nepomnyachsniy | 74 | 77 |
Sprinter wise Avelino is the big name here followed by Appoonio and Impey. 2 chances for them and hence a good chance for some HC points.
The long time trial of course also is a good opportunity for the top time trialists and while the two previous hill stages might impact the TT surely, Fiedler is the stand out name here and probably must be named top favourite for the TT win, while Paillot, Dekker and also Brändle are all better on the hills and might have more energy left to challenge the German.
| Sp | Acc | | Hill | TT | Avelino | 83 | 78 | Fiedler | 68 | 83 | Appollonio | 81 | 78 | Paillot | 71 | 80 | Impey | 80 | 81 | Dekker | 76 | 79 | Haussler | 80 | 76 | Brändle | 71 | 79 | Vanoverschelde | 80 | 75 | Atkins | 68 | 78 | Pelucchi | 79 | 77 | Balloni | 66 | 78 | Matthews | 79 | 79 | Kovalev | 56 | 78 | Peeters | 79 | 77 | Bibby | 76 | 77 | Santos | 79 | 75 | Nepomnyachsniy | 74 | 77 | Van der Sande | 79 | 79 | Grabovski | 71 | 77 | Cisse | 78 | 77 | Fominykh | 67 | 77 | Kreder | 78 | 80 | Andersen | 64 | 77 | Park | 78 | 77 | Dal Col | 63 | 77 | Wippert | 78 | 82 | Archbold | 62 | 77 | Haller | 78 | 77 | Barth | 58 | 77 |

Oh god, just when I hoped the season was close to being over, we have another stage race : ' )
No chance for the GC with that long TT, but we could have some good stage results by Pelucchi or Waeytens.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

A big score here and the nightmare in Britain can be brushed under the carpet. Bibby really ought to be pushing for the podium here, while Gallopin could hopefully sneak into the Top 15/20.
Or we'll have another hellish race. That seems more likely |

Not much chance to score big here from Le Gac and Vasyliv, but with some luck we can get 5-10 points out of the race

With the long TT I just hope that Paillot will find his peak form and that the hills will be ridden conservatively.

Hoping for Caruso and Roy to bring in a decent points haul here since they are both second equal in regards to the HIL stat. Caruso will however need to gain a lot of time since his time trial ability is very limited. Roy on the other hand could put a decent TT together so hopefully he stays up there to give himself a chance. This race could go well but could also go very badly!

Dekker is my shout for the win here though.

The field here is decently strong, so it's possible some of the promotion contenders won't overtake us thanks to this alone Expecting Ayubowan and VisitUkraine to still score big though.

The team present in this race is clearly turned to the stage wins, at the level of the general classification nothing nor nobody will save us from the doom.
Fiedler for the TT and Haussler for stages 1 and 5 are our hopes.
Bibby Is for me what more conditions have to win because the difference will be made in the TT and not in the hills

Pretty much like Karcher we can't expect much from the GC, but a stage win is not tto much to ask for, at least in the sprint stages.
It's going to be a nice battle between pure puncheurs and those TTists with some sort of ability on the hilly terrain.
Thanks for another magnificent preview roturn!
My pic for the win: LLS! good luck everyone!

This is 100% Dekkers race. Otherwise I do expect Flügel in the Top 10 overall.
Cheering for Ukraine and the Kazakh beast here though, as a home victory would be perfect!

I predict the mountain stat will play a role on stage 3, which will surprise some teams expecting a good result. Therefore, Dekker looks very dangerous indeed.
Will be interesting to see another attempt at lower level success for the PT teams.

Win goal and well if he had performed even decently in Britain I'd be feeling confident in LLS but after that, I'm really not sure I can expect anything like that.
Definetly Dekker's race, although betting on Flugul and hoping Roy.
Thanks for the nice preview Roturn!

With the Tour of Ukraine visiting the town of Lviv for the first stage, we welcome you all to our beautiful headquarters for the presentation of our 2017 teamkit. Before we will reveal the kit we would like to the_hoyle for the efforts he made in designing this masterpiece.
Also before we show you the finished product, we would like to share our ambitions for our home race, at least for those who are unable to guess from the startlist. Jakub Skala and Oleksandr Polivoda will work together on the flat stages to perhaps get a surprise result, however our real chances are with Yevgeni Nepomnyachsniy who has the best support he could ever wish for with his fellow countryman, and Kazakh champion on the ITT Dmitriy Gruzdev, Ukrainian superstar Oleksandr Prevar, Russian strong man Egor Silin, Sammarinese finest rider, Paolo Scarponi and the beast from Lithuania, Ignas Konovalovas.
We require him, or perhaps Konovalovas, to at least reach a top 5 in the GC, however a podium should be achievable in our minds.
But then finally, the moment you've all been anticipating now, the 2017 kit for Nemiroff-ABBYY!

Thanks for the nice preview, roturn!
Guess our final decision about leader credentials will decided during stage three. Zardini, Cataldo and Hollenstein can easily make it into top 20th positions, but without a doubt we will profit the most by going all for one.
Appollonio adding one or two podiums can make the race an outstanding harvest for Vontobel.
Gratz to the splendid 2017 jersey, fjhoekie! Truely a nice design by the hoyle!

Matthews in a terrible position when the sprint starts, but somehow manages to fight for podium. Actually pretty happy by that 4th place. But even more happy to see Dekker sprinting in to 13th! I hope this proves he's in good shape before the decisive stages.
Thank you for the detailed sprint and the well written report roturn! |

Good job by Haller to contest the sprint, although he was 1 spot away from scoring us any points - Both as a stage result and a U25 - Still happy to be seen in a sprint!

Happy to see my team seems to understand we aren't going to win any sprints and at least got a rider out into the breakaway here. Gives me some hope going into this that our team will take some chances.
