The Dutch Food Valley Classic, held in and around Veenendaal, has been around since 2010 under the MGUCI, save a brief break in 2013. No former winners are going to be in competition here today, so let's take a quick look at the course:
A brief downhill finish is the only other notable feature, which could mean that a bold 2km-1.5km sprint surprises the regular fast men. There is, in fact, a few hundred metres at 5% if you look real close.
| SPR | ACC | STA | | SPR | ACC | STA | Lo Cicero | 84 | 78 | 71 | Van Heerden | 82 | 73 | 74 | Zabel | 81 | 79 | 74 | Vanoverschelde | 80 | 75 | 74 | Vanderbiest | 82 | 77 | 74 | Van Asbroeck | 80 | 78 | 75 | Avelino | 83 | 78 | 70 | Petit | 79 | 78 | 76 | Kupfernagel | 80 | 80 | 73 | Kreder | 78 | 80 | 72 | Appollonio | 81 | 78 | 71 | Sobota | 78 | 78 | 74 | Bouhanni | 80 | 77 | 74 | Afewerki | 77 | 80 | 77 | Van der Sande | 79 | 79 | 78 | Matthews | 79 | 79 | 72 | Wippert | 78 | 82 | 75 | Richeze | 79 | 77 | 71 |
The list of favorites is so long many of them aren't here! However with the weighting of a) being a team leader and b) sprint over acceleration because of the downhill finish, I think I've narrowed it down. team support is a small factor, of course.
The men in the left-hand column such as Lo Cicero and Zabel are the most likely candidates and it's hard to look past them - however if it gets messy it's any of these 20's - and more! Hoping for a faster, tougher race is the likes of Van der Sande or Petit - some riders like Richeze or Appollonio could find distance a factor if its hard.
There's a small chance of a surprise attack, and I'll throw one name in the hat if that succeeds - Maksib Debesay.
See you in Veenendaal! |

Yup, made a horrible mistake it seems. At least we should be able to set up a train here.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Very tough competition, a Top 10 would be lucky for us.

Took a risk sending Sobota here instead of supporting Vantomme at Interlagos, hopefully he can make it worth it, but I doubt it. Thanks for the preview jandal!

Vanderbiest with minimal support. Oh yeah...

Next year I hope to be in this race, and watch it from my front garden
And to be fair, that pancake is not enitrely accurate. Besides Limburg it is the hilliest region of the Netherlands (+-50 meters)

Thanks for the preview, jandal!
Appollonio will be pretty much on his own here, nonetheless he should be able to fight for a top 5 result.

Really hoping Bouhanni gets a decent result here as his form in flat classics hasn't been great so far this season.

Interesting to see Petit is mentioned in the preview, can only hope it means he does something here
I'd settle for a Top 15, and a Top 10 would be a nice result. Need to put someone in the break as well, as there's always a chance of a breakaway win here. |

Expectations are high for this one. Our train is divided between Food Valley and Interlagos, but with the 2nd fastest man here I think we have a chance.
Another pleasing preview. Nice job, jandal!

A lot of competition, it will be difficult for us to take something positive from this race

7th without getting mentions. Not what I had hoped for, but at least it's some sort of result.

Tnaks for the report. Selvaggi going in break is something, Van der Sande closely misses the Top 10 but alrighty.

Once again a good preparation from both Tiainen and Vinther finished of perfectly by Lo Cicero. Amazingly strong finish by Il Toro!
Thanks for a good report and a nice preview as well.

Not bad from Avelino, a top5 is a good result.
Lo Cicero is very strong this year, he's been excellent in these races. Congrats, Atlantius!
I enjoyed the way the report was turned to the final sprint. No need to entertain anyone with a futile breakaway.
Onto May we go!

Lo Cicero confirms he's actually great in PCT! Sad to think I didn't even consider him altogether during the transfers

Great race for the team! Extremely happy with the lead out from Bonnet and Reza, Bouhanni maybe should have finished higher given the lead out but will certainly settle for 3rd given the level of competition.
