This is the 7th edition of the Herald Sun Tour! Historically Australian riders have done well here with GC wins for Adam Hansen, Cadel Evans and Micheal Rogers. Last year Jose Mendes took victory.
A lot has changed and the route is now a lot flatter. 4 potential sprint stages split by a time trial in the middle. But that hides the true difficulty of the race. Stage One kicks up in the final kilometers which could discourage the pure sprinters, whilst Stage Two's final climb peaks just 6.5km from the line so won't be a walk in the park either. Then there's the potentially race deciding 17km ITT on Stage 3, for the specialists as they try and gap the sprinters who hunt time bonuses.
So who's turned up?
Strava bring probably the strongest squad to the race. Italian Corioni sprinter leads them with 79SP, whilst British star Tennant brings power with 78TT. And don't rule out Langeveld for a strong late attack.
BelarusBank are always good for sprinters. Kankovsky is theoretically best with 80SP and 75PRL, but more likely is local lad Clarke with his 79SP and actual backup stats.
Novatek bring a strong option in Hochman with 79SP and 75PRL, whilst Martin Velits is an outsider for the time trial.
Fablok are very strong with Lavoine a real season star. The 80SP'er has right hand man Drujon alongside. Plus in Juraj Sagan, Kristian Durasek and Pszczolarski they've got a range of contenders for the time trial stage.
Sancor are a similar story. B-World Champ Richeze leads them and gets strong support from time trialists Rosas and Van Aelbroeck.
Generali are the biggest bets for the time trial stage. In Rolland and Boaro they've got two 77TT options so a good GC looks on the cards.
Other riders to watch include Forero (80SP), Kruopis (78SP, 71TT), Aramendia (77TT) and Giacoppo (77SP, 71TT).

Would have loved to be here, but C2 was never really an option for me this season.
I'll cheer for our former riders though, with Michael Matthews, CJ Sutton and Anthony Giacoppo all racing on home soil. Good luck, guys!

Come on guys, we have one serious chance to get back in the top 5 besides Faso, and seeing how random cobbles are, we need at least a GC win here
Nah but seriously, I'd also happily take 2nd and 3rd + a stage win
I was honestly hoping Tennant wouldn't turn up here, but it hardly would have happened. Still H2Hs so far are in our favour so why change course
Thanks for the preview, looking forward to the reports TMM

Not very confident about this race. Hochmann has been underperforming for the entire season, luckily only this and Faso left for him. He'll need to score well here to keep us in the title race. Apart from this and Faso we have Acropolis, Yekaterinburg, Ruta America del Sur and Züri-Metzgete left, all with Rabon for the GC in it, so it's about limiting losses.
Hopefully stage 2 proves to be selective enough for Kuznetsov and Iglinski to stand a chance, that would at the very least be a very nice bonus.
All in all I'm looking forward to this, as this may well be one of the most important races of the season.

Time to get some points! Come on SanCor!
Great profile for us and hope the B World Champ can get at least 1 stage win! |

Looking at it at the start of the season, Haddou was our man for this, but we all know how that has ended up... Thire sprinted well at Middle East back at the start of the season, so begging that he does the same here.
If not, it will be the breakaway for Sodexo.
Thanks for the preview TMM

Favorite race on the calendar and finally we can start this late season with some good points! Pszczolarski haven't had the best TT's this season, but I think he is our best bet!
Lavoine might be able to take the first two stages and that might be enough for him to win the race, either way a Top 10 for Lavoine is still a high possibility. Furthermore this is one of the last races on his calendar, so finishing off a strong season is expected, go Luke!

Hoping for a top 10 GC and some decent stage results with Kruopis here, he's one of the better sprinters in the field and has decent TT and hill stats. Would be great to see Manulang do well too. I think that Tennant/Rolland/Boaro and other TT specialists have the best chance for the GC though. We need a considerable haul of points to keep in the promotion hunt as we're not racing faso or the Sud.
Would like to see the B Champ snag a win or two though

Why didn't I bring Der? This is more important than Acropolis.
Hopefully Stachowiak, Morkov or Sobota can take a win and/or a top ten, maybe slightly high expectations, but it's important for the promotion battle.
Thanks for the preview TMM.

Hoping my two time trialists can do something on the TT but I didn't bring Mezgec so the only hope on any other stages are BWs |

Kroupis takes it! After doing this race last season the uphill finish is still somewhere in the memory so he was my favourite for that one and he takes it, didn't expect him to get a lead-out though! His team keep surprising me!

Hochmann is slowly but surely becoming the CT-joke of the season...
The best news of this stage is that our contenders didn't perform very well either, I guess.
