Kenya Mountain Classic
The Kenya Mountain Classic has quickly become one of the most prestigious climber's one day races on the continental level: with Rein Taaramäe (2013) and Benat Intxausti (2014) as the previous winners here, it's pretty obvious, that only the best do stand a chance on this tough route.
165km in total, the route features two long and tough climbs - of course with the final climb as the more crucial. Opposing to a race like GP Liechtenstein, this classic may see a more tactical play than just an elimination race though.
The Startlist
The Favorites Rider | MO | ACC | Rider | MO | ACC | Machado | 84 | 72 | Panayotov | 78 | 72 | Contador | 82 | 70 | Rodrigues | 78 | 72 | Van den Broeck | 81 | 70 | Cataldo | 78 | 73 | Keizer | 81 | 73 | Aru | 78 | 70 | Sella | 81 | 76 | Stetina | 78 | 65 | Nazaret | 80 | 72 | Quintana | 78 | 64 | Nerz | 80 | 68 | Gomez Marchante | 77 | 73 | Eastman | 80 | 69 | Tvetcov | 76 | 73 | Berhane | 80 | 68 | Alizadeh | 76 | 70 | Marquez | 80 | 80 | De Marchi | 76 | 71 | Samwel | 79 | 64 | Libert | 76 | 76 | Talansky | 79 | 63 | Iino | 75 | 67 |
Machado of course the man to beat here. The division's best climber will need to deliver in a race like that. It's one summit finish, that counts. So you better got your legs today.
Contador, Van den Broeck, Keizer and Sella as his biggest contenders (on paper). An ever dangerous Marquez may hope to do better than last year, where he finished as 5th here. Same goes for someone like Nerz (16th), while local hero Samwel (7th in 2014) may be happy with a similar strong showing this time.

Samwel's chance to lead at our home race, really hope he can grab another top 10 here despite the packed field.
Hard to look past Machado here, as he is the strongest climber by quite a bit. Looking forward to hopefully an exciting race. |

Normally this should go to Machado easily.
But I hope Keizer is within the next. Top3 surely possible and top5 a must Everything below would be hugely disappointing. In especially as having two more potential top15 climbers here in Aru and Olivier should give him the needed support.
That said, both should try to reach the maximum as well and don`t stop in the big peloton. |

Curious about this one. Strong field, but Cataldo could make it in the top10, anyway. Expect Panesa to be a much stronger help for our demands than Maillet. The young Italian may score double digits by himself as the route suits him a lot.
As the pace maybe will increase way before the final climb starts Van Den Broeck could turn out the biggest contender to Machado.

Of course a win here would be nice, but I can't see Sella finishing in front of Machado and Contador, so I my goal here is a podium, which Sella should be able to achieve on a good day. With Rodrigues here his support is decent and I can hope for another top10/15.. |

a top 15 would be brilliant for us, our mountain squad (like all our others) isn't really up to scratch for this level so we are fighting for a steady stream of small points and hoping that we can slowly claw our way to a respectable points haul that doesn't leave us too far adrift.

Not a race I'm too hopeful in, but will expect to be in the breakaway, and be perhaps a threat from that with my team all being solid climbers (just no elite climbers). Do think this is definitely Machado's race to lose.

Really enjoyed reporting this last year. Hope the PCM 14 AI works as well as the PCM 13 AI did in this race. Will follow it for sure.

Podium should be the goal here. Hoping for a hard race from the first climb onwards, otherwise a top 5 could be out of the window with some passive baloney. |

A top 10 should be on the cards for Nerz, I have slight hopes he can go for a top 5 if he has a good day.
Bongiorno/Arndt/Heider/Herklotz hopefully support Nerz as well as possible and score a couple points each too.

Yeah, so.... If I score one point, I'll be thrilled Obviously need to go in the break, if we're not there, well then it'll be completly hopeless.

Hopefully Talansky actually shows up here - if he can make top 10 would be acceptable. Also hope rest of squad try and mop up minor points to make a contribution.
Machado should deliver this for Prio, otherwise have to be concerned that the random factor in TT's is spreading! Battle for final podium place should be the main entertainment. Hope things kick off early on final climb if not already - this parcours for a 1- day should really deliver individual finishers and big gaps.

I was looking forward for this one. This should be a good oportunity to avenge Catalunya, and also to forget recent failures in Bayern and FBD.
Comtador our biggest rival here, but Sella, Van den Broeck and Keizer are all very suitable candidates. In all honesty though, I'll be surprised if Machado loses this chance.
Thanks for another stylish preview tsmoha
