July
Of the 14 races in July, 4 were HC and 2 were C2HC - so plenty of opportunity for big points in both divisions. Oz Cycling won 4 of the 14 races, while Euskaltel won a C2 and C2HC stage race - this makes those two teams the stars of their respective divisions.
A relatively high scoring month for Metinvest and Kazzinc too, two teams who have been battling the PCT danger zone.

PCT
Heineken were able to open up a 300 point lead on Quickstep while the latter rode the Tour de France. Quickstep will have a chance to catch up in August there, as Heineken are off to Colombia. Oz Cycling fly right up to 3rd while Bacardi survive their Tour de France month still in the promotion positions after a strong finish in the month-ending classics. CSC-Orbea are certainly doing their best to apply some pressure though!
Gazelle's surprise stage race win for Dastpuntsag helps them into 10th, but Puma aren't far behind after a strong Danmark Rundt for Ciolek. Another surprise win, this time for Magna at Urkiola Igoera, helps them climb 4 positions to 14th. Amex, Privatbank and FCB Polska are above the mid field fallers.
Metinvest escape the relegation zone and move into 23rd. Boeing take their place in the bottom 5 but Hornbach are tumbling down and now hold the perilous 25th position. Victory at the Tour of Southland fails to improve Mobil's position, but it keeps them still in the anti-relegation fight.

Projections seem to confirm that we are looking at a 6-horse race for promotion. CSC-Orbea may be slated to miss out at the moment, but they are close enough that a few good races can really make the difference.
Meiji as usual are projected higher than their actual standing, but no longer does it lift them into promotion positions. Kappa are projected to fall having raced a lot already.
At the bottom Allianz seem set to just escape ahead of Boeing, and it is looking bad for Project Africa who are starting to run out of race days.

CT
Nutresa extend their lead while ONCE now move ahead of Vontobel for 2nd, with Bonsucro into an automatic promotion position and 4th place, Azteca falling out of the Top 5. The reality is that more than 5 will promote, as there are expected-disbanding teams in safe PCT positions, but how many is hard to tell at this stage.
Euskaltel had 494 from 85 race days going into this month. In July they more than doubled that, with 521 from 24 race days. This sees them rocket up from 21st to 9th. So clearly there is still hope for most teams in CT - if they can manage a bit of breakaway luck.
Sauber are also on a good run of form into 11th, while Dell move up 4 into the Top 20.
1 | 1 | | Grupo Nutresa | 1504 | 2 | 3 | | ONCE-Eroski Cycling Team | 1348 | 3 | 2 | | Team Vontobel | 1273 | 4 | 6 | | Bonsucro | 1260 | 5 | 4 | | Risa - Ergon | 1182 | 6 | 5 | | Azteca-NBCSN | 1121 | 7 | 7 | | Team TomTom | 1085 | 8 | 9 | | Evonik - Signal Iduna | 1044 | 9 | 21 | | Euskaltel - Bavaria | 1015 | 10 | 8 | | Bank of Ireland - Irish Cycling | 1007 | 11 | 14 | | Sauber Petronas | 995 | 12 | 15 | | Team Nordeus | 949 | 13 | 12 | | Fletcher-Garneau | 938 | 14 | 10 | | Siam Cement - Lenovo | 888 | 15 | 11 | | Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Cycling Team | 836 | 16 | 13 | | Team ASDA-Savers | 752 | 17 | 17 | | In-n-Out Racing p/b Auchan | 730 | 18 | 22 | | Dell - 361° Racing | 680 | 19 | 16 | | Maloja Mountain Nomads | 668 | 20 | 20 | | Eddie Stobart Pro Cycling | 623 | 21 | 18 | | Team Carlsberg - Danske Bank | 591 | 22 | 19 | | Team Ameriabank-Novatek | 585 | 23 | 24 | | Alpina - Avianca | 525 | 24 | 23 | | Team Chiquita-Universal | 450 | 25 | 25 | | Wounded Warrior | 410 | 26 | 26 | | Team Live Nation | 325 |
Bonsucro still have a lot of races left and remain prokecyed to top the division, although Nutresa are not far behind. Euskaltel are another who have raced less than average and suddenly they can now see promotion as a realistic possibility.
There's remarkable few differences between projections and actual positions. Four of the teams with the fewest race days so far - Bonsucro, In-n-Out, Chiquita and Wounded Warrior - are all catching up by racing the Tour of America in September - so who knows what effect that will have?

It was not the best month for the team much through the fault of points scored by the opponents in the fight for top 15. Yet there was a clear improvement over the previous months, August will be a decisive month for the future of the team with many important races

The fact we're still predicted to top 10 is a miracle in my opinion. Jaguar and Gazelle have had a lot of luck recently so I'm confident we can compete with them, and there are no teams projected lower than us I'm overly worried about catching us. Can definitely rule out promotion now though. |

Still fighting, still not out of it yet. Very much battling. Got some good races left to go that could make a serious difference if we would get some luck. We will fight them on the beaches. We will fight them on the hills and in the streets. We will never surrender

Looking good, this ranking update Definitely a huge month for Oz and we still have a few races for Bobridge or Goss to come (Tour of Britain as another key race, obviously). Will be hard to keep this pprd til the end though, but let's see.. With such a great run we had/have, that's less of an issue at this point anyway.
Metinvest with a first step. Guess Avin saw his team going down too early Of course nothing's certain yet, but except of Mobil, i can't see any of those teams down there having stronger last months. Should be thrilling anyway!

I thought July had gone better than it did but nevertheless we've managed to climb a place. Top 20 should be the target from here - but I'm a little worried that Chiquita and Wounded Warrior might score well in the Tour of America thingy and overtake us, especially considering Forero, who is basically our only points scorer, is running out of race days.

Still hope. The team had a great month, not Oz great but still a handful of points. I can't see us closing the gap with Abal having 1 more race and Ventoso season coming to a close, but 8 out of our last 14 races are HC rated so if we get lucky anything is possible.
(One eye on our team, another on Santander. )
Thanks for the update. Tense times.

So I guess Avin can put his CT plans at ease for now
Awesome month for Oz and Euskaltel as CT team, moving themselves into promotion contention.
Quite but good month with 2 Tour stage wins and Marquez's podium. He should do nicely in Austria hopefully as well. Still confident we can snatch the overall win, all depends on Froome though and if he really delivers in late hilly classics.

Very good for us, safely entrenched in those automatic places now.
We have to be optimistic for the next update, with Burgos & Azerbaijan our races for August we expect our PPRD figure to definitely go up, again! |

Well, we won a race, but we're still second last, even though we've closed on the next couple of teams. But I have a feeling this is it, and we won't be able to save ourselves. Time to start planning for CT. |

The decline was epected, but we made a lot of our few race days in July. Now heading for another three weeks break and afterwards the chase for the final promotion spot gains full steam.
Will be an exciting season finale.

I haven't been following PCT and CT as regularly as I wished, but this is looking good. It's good to see Oz on the upper end of the table now with Bobridge. The first five all look very well positioned, but CSC cannot be discounted.
Down below things look much more blurry with every team still in contention, except for poor Compal. I'm surprised to find some teams in this dispute like Mobil or Metinvest. It should be an interesting fight till the end.
In CT Bonsucro seem to be the team of the moment. They've looked like an interesting project from the start, but all credit should be attributed to their manager, who should become a direct competitor of mine next season.
Thanks for the update SN

Horrible past few months for us. Our biggest disappointment must be Augustyn who has been brutally screwed by PCM AI. Maksimov has also not been that great the last while. Nor have we been lucky in the way that some of the teams around us have been.

It's going to be very close for 4-6th place, but i have good hopes. Intxausti, Uran & Ulissi both have race days left, so we should still get a decent amount of points.

I hate to say that but this looks as my best chance to promote and I'm really not sure if I want to promote already. Especially since we didn't deserved it ourselves.... Another year at CT would surely help the team as most riders need two years until they are ready!
On the other side, we are falling down slowly due to another not so optimal month. Let's hope that it changes soon. Others like Euskaltel are climbing up the ranks!
Thanks for updating us on this. Really appreciated!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!
