The Tour d'Rwanda brings the Man Game peloton for the first time to the Central African country. The debut is for the Continental teams but actually a few PCT teams also decided to start here.
The profiles are interesting with 3 flat and one hill top finish. The race opener though could be too hard for pure sprinters with a few hills. Also the next two stages are not completely flat. That said a sprint finish is expected here as those hills shouldn`t make it too difficult.
Last statge then for the GC most likely. The 7km long climb to the finish should lead to some selection of the stronger puncheurs or even climbers here.
Let`s come to the favourites. We have pure climbers, pure puncheurs and also some stage racers, which are pretty good in both kind of climbs.
The top puncheurs here are riders like:
Lejman
Tiernan Locke
Kolobnev
Wyss
Passalacqua
Firsanov
Ito
Valencia
Konte
Machado
Then some stage racers to hope for a stronger hill top climb for sure lead by a strong ONCE duo:
Kulhavy
Jumabekov
Morton
Fernandez
Bugge
Masuda
Kimeli
Infantino
Richardson
Chamorro
Last but not least a duo of pure climbers:
Parra Bustamante
Landa
Those guys will most likely have best chances to perform well in the GC. It`s hard to say, what kind of rider is suited the most for the hill top finish. Most likely a mix of puncheur and stage racer should do best, while the pure climbers might struggle on the shorter climbs.
With 2-3 possible sprint finishes we have lots of sprinters here. First the fastest riders:
Drapac
Vanderaerden
Andriato
Sutton
Caethoven
Rangel
Nielsen
Dupont
Poulhies
Uugunbayar
Pierzga
Korkotyan
Selig
Meenhorst
The biggest CT sprinters might be missing but the top5 here in especially are well known sprinters with a decent palmares already. Some like Caethoven even performed well on PT level.
Due to the sometimes harder sprint stages also some sprinters, who perform better after some selection:
Iglinski
Lang
Fernandez
Machado
Golas
So standout team here might be Grupo Nutresa with strong riders for every terrain. A low pointer here would be hugely disappointing for them.
Also ONCE, Risa, Repsol look very strong while other teams are having a hard time here to score big. Most notable probably PCT team AMEX with 4 riders only.
I will wait for the running PCT/CT races to be finished before posting the first report. |

Took a gamble taking Drapac here and not to Himmerland, but should pay off as I do expect a stage win from him here, since he also has amazing support.

No, that's fine, Dippo. Every sprinter here is a sprinter less in Himmerlandt, which is not only a TomTom goal, but a goal from other sprinter teams as well

Judging by alot of small and steepy hills in first three stages, Drapac will hardly stand a chance in final sprints there. At least that's experience I got from reporting Algarve.
Good luck to everyone, Nordeus once again making a pause...we'll be back!

Nah, San Luis proved the opposite. Stage 1 is definitely too hard for him, but two and three should work out fine.

Stage 1 seems perfect for Iglinski. Hopefully at least a podium there. Not too many expectations of Korkotyan, but Firsanov should be able to top-10.

Should have sent Angarita or Arango here instead of enslaving them for a Forero train in Himmerland. Could easily get some top 10s in this field.

I have no idea what to expect here so I am looking forward to get surprised. I hope that Boivin will feature on stage 1 while the rest of the team might go into breaks.
Hopefully, Dupont finds the same speed in his legs on stage 2 and 3 he had in San Luis.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Looking forward to this race even if it's not the most important one for us.
We aim for a controlled performance without breakaway adventures. With Schuler, Montaguti and Lang, Marcel Wyss got a great support crew here...
The final stage will tell the truth!

AMEXpc is using this race for young rider trainng. Three sprinters Theo Geinhardt, Daniel Klemme and Rudiger Selig will do their best to contend on the flat courses.
Young Frenchman Arnaud Godet will try for a couple of breakaways.

Came here for experience along with our Africa Tour goal. Kimeli or Chaabane should be able to get a decent GC result at least, and otherwise breaks will be the target. |

With three mentioned riders being Fernandez, Infantino and Parra Bustamante I don't just want a good result here, I need a great result here. Hopefully my team is very active.

Kudus was great in the break there, king of the mountains lead is great, grabbing some points. Shame Kimeli was dropped though, Chaabane will have to take on the leading duties from now on.
Wyss carrying on his great form for Vontobel, congrats to Margh Norway. |

Team working hard on the front to force a selection, not bad as both Richardson and JTL are only 20 sec back, will hope my team shows up in that stage

Nice ``attempt`` by Kulhavi. Atleast he seemed fresh and ready to attack. Promising good for the final stage

Kelly did well to stay in the front group, blah, looking good for GC, blah blah, Drapac did well to not end up with Walsleben, blah blah blah. Overall not the most important stage ever for us, looking forward to the next two stages though.
