Wow, what a crazy stage, and a report that did it justice! Very well-written, with lots of information to get a good idea of the overall situation.
As soon as I saw the strength of the two up front, I knew it was game over for most of the others to catch up again, up-and-down stages like this favor the break over the peloton by a ridiculous lot in PCM15 (it's impossible to not win Eneco Tour on the last stage).
Congrats SotD on successfully executing the strategy "moan until you win" (I'm an expert in that).
Kelderman with a massive ride to get away from incredibly strong opponents and get huge gaps on some climbers.
If tomorrow's stage is ridden moderately fast until the last climb and he starts it in the front and then finds his own pace, on a good day this could actually become a Top 10 result overall, something I wouldn't have dreamt of when using his last spare RD on this race.
Arndt didn't do much on the other hand, and it's a shame that Herklotz is injured, this stage or tomorrow could've been opportunities for him (but we never ever join breaks anyway, so what).

Woah insane stage here, great to watch for a neutral... I'd imagine some managers over the moon with this result while others will have a hard time to understand how such gaps are possible..
Anyhow, congratz to Tinkoff for another (very likely) win for TrofiMonster!

Ouch Phinney Phucked and Sicard in Sic position. Trofitruffle to the fore and a coup for Festina really with Clement.
Another very tough day for the boys tomorrow - fat bastards at Red Bull have been very lazy so far with two guys unable to survive ardennes type course. Tosspots.

Wow, that stage was crazy, love super exciting stages like that though, wish PCM would kick the action off that early more often. Great reporting to cover all that jph! Congrats on the win SotD and Oleg on the massive time gains.

Oh my... That was one crazy ass stage! But a most welcomed one for us, having had a horrible period since Tour d'Afrique.
Koretzky might have a shot at landing a top 20GC now, but can clearly also drop back more. If he does indeed manage to get the top 20 then our goals for the race have been met. We came here looking for a stagewin and a top 20GC, so half way there...
Also congrats to Tinkoff, that was a very demanding result, and with a win here they will rise again. They shouldn't be too far off the top 5.

Meyer have done very good on the hilly stages, and in the end getting paid for his offensive style today. Will drop quite a bit in the next stage, but I hope he still can manage a top 15.
Great reports, jph.

Yep, when people said watch out for Trofimov they were talking about exactly this. Stages like this are not realistic at all, but they definitely advantage riders like him, capable of not only resisting on long mountains, but excelling in hills more than all.
Congrats Oleg, superb reporting jph can't stress it enough.

Huge gaps there. GGood to see both BBobridge and MMorton doing rather well. HHopefully Morton won't f***k up the key stage.. mmaybe BBobridge can hang on for a notable GC result, too.

Oh well. Gesink throwing out a great opportunity of getting back in the winners' circle. I guess the podium is still in his reach though.

Thank you for the kind words everyone! I was unsure when reporting the stage if I'd covered it in enough detail, with it being my first race, but glad the feedback is positive.
I hope to get two stages up tomorrow, but one way or another this race will be finished on Monday as I start back at university then, and it will be a busy couple of days for me at first. Therefore it'll be better to get this out of the way a little quicker than planned, just don't be shocked when two stages are there on the same day |

Thanks, as others have said it was a great stage. Very easy to keep up.
Those crazy time gaps are just bizarre. Claeys moving up to fifth in one fell swoop, with VDB dropping down to 17th. Hopefully either Claeys can hold on, or VDB can get a lot of time back in the next stage before the TT. With these gaps though, the TT probably won't count for much.

Wow, great result by Sagan. Too bad he lost such a big amount of time in previous stages, he could actually have a real chance for top 10 overall now. On the other way Velits really not so great. Still has some chances for decent top 10 result though.

Very nice report, I was hoping for the leader's jersey after this stage but didn't expect the gaps this big! Hopefully having the leader's jersey adds a few mountain stat points to Trofimov. Will be hard to control the mountain stage though.

I dont get this game, i dont...Giro brutal stages where almost nothing happens and 15-20 minutes gaps per stage in California among not so different climbers. Does somebody knows what is going on here? I dont have a clue

I do concur with Avin, it is bizarre the time differences. Perhaps it has something to do with one mountain stage with best climbers a long way down then destruction. But in a way the unpredicatability is welcome.
Red Bull just treading water through this and the almost pointless chrono (bar stage win and points standings rights). Phinney may be able to snatch onto podium?

Oh my Velits! Expected he would be much closer to the top 3, it would not make a big difference in the GC though. Was more hopeful for Sagan at the start of the final climb as well. Not the greatest stage for Becherovka boys.

Good performances across the board from our guys here, Kelderman will be 8th in GC and comfortably win white (no idea what happened with Morton there..), that's far beyond expectations.
Arndt did really well too, too bad he lost a bit more time than necessary earlier on. Dunno if he can stay in the Top 15, but either way it's good additional points. I definitely would've taken one Top 10 and one Top 20 finish before the race, so it doesn't matter who takes those.
Herklotz tried but the peloton was too keen on reeling them in early, but that's the spirit!
