With Nazaret doing so well on the hills, can someone tell me the H/M ratio of the stages or check them? Just seems strange for this to happen twice.
I imagine it was full geared to M:

Okay, so not surprising to see Landa finish far behind with only 69 mt. But how are Minguez Ayala better, he has 72mt,73 hill and finish half a min infront of him?
I thought hilly stats meant more than mt stats no matter the ratio on hilly stages?

Lane, Nepomnyachsniy... Both for teams who could very well relegate, and this race may be a big decision point for that. Nepomnyachsniy looks set for at least a podium here, but he's strong, possibly even stronger than Machado at this moment, which is something I really like

A pretty good stage from us looking at the team performance considering no one was in the break and we had five riders top 50. Hopefully we can change that into one rider in the breakaway and less giving their maximum to "secure" top 50 positions.
Stake Laengen is also fighting, and he's in with a shot at a top 20 overall, which would be cool, but he has to survive one more hilly stage.
I guess the same goes for Machado and his status as the clear overall favourite. If he can keep it within half a minute to the yellow jersey starting the Queen stage, there should be no stopping him for the overall win. |

Tvetcov is going well, hope we get a good top 10 here, just hope that Lane drops away soon as well

Amazing race so far!!!
Oscar Gatto with his best result in a stage as a Vontobel rider. He seems to be in a much better shape recently.
But stage 3 was nothing compared to what happened today.
First Vontobel breakaway victory in team history by Patrick Lane... and first of us who crossed a finish line first this season. He surely benefits from the bunch not chasing continuously, but he took almost five minutes on his breakaway companions and can be more than proud about his performance.
Would be nice if we can keep the lead a few more days, though Cataldo seems to be strong and will need any support he can get for his GC ambitions.

I'm frustrated to see Machado being surpassed so vulgarly in a stage like this. Anyway, as long as he gets the final yellow jersey I'll be fine.

Not a great performance by Kangert, but could've been worse. Indeed seems like MO played a big part.
Stage 5 should suit Kangert more and to reach his objective he needs a good performance there.

We doing what we are supposed to do here, get in the breaks!
Unfortunately Jensen couldn´t hang on to his breakaway buddy and get a very good result now "only" getting 7th. Hoogerland still doing a decent job! |

Horrible from Levarlet/Juul-Jensen again. They should be doing a lot better than this.

Much better stage for Kwiatek, putting him right back in the mix again. Now he needs to make that final hilly stage count and distance the likes of Nazaret and Nepom who could overtake him later in the race. |

The GC is still very much withing range, and Nepom looks about as strong as Machado.

Nice to so Landa follow the important GC-moves, but in terms of point-scoring, these performances are pretty useless unless he get a great stage ranking. Much rather have a guy in the break fighting for stage wins. Really tight battle for the top places and although Machado looks pretty good for the win, mt stages in pcm aren't always the safest bets either...

Stages 4 & 5 hammered nails in Ian Boswell's coffin as he lost big chucks of time on both days. Boswell's supporting team has been very ineffective and leaving Boswell all alone without any help.
Oliver LeGac is just 2 points off the KOM lead, but he wil have to get in a breakaway in the next 2 days or his hopes will also slip slide away.

Really nice to see Destribios give it a go, even if a nice break win eluded us at the final. Intrigued to see how he goes hanging on to GC poisition as he can climb pretty nicely.

Less than impressive stage, Tvetcov is still in the mix for the top 10, but why dont we get in the breaks? Its the area which has really bugged me this season...

Brilliant stage with Dyrnes getting into the mix for the climber's jersey and fighting for the stage win. Looked like he was caught by surprise in the sprint, sitting first when Prades started. But second place is a great result for us here.
Hopefully he can rest on the next three stages and give the breakaway another go on the mountain stage, as it will most likely be needed to compete for the jersey.
Also Stake Laengen fighting surprisingly well for a hilly stage, and now there are only two stages left before the TT. If he continues like this on the hilly and mountain stage, he should be in with a shot at a top 20.
Massive stage by Hoogerland, Kwiatkowski and Kangert, putting them right up there. This is shaping up to be a very interesting race considering the GC, at least behind Machado if he does what is expected of him on the mountain stage.
Thanks for the report, Atlantius! |
