For real? That is a bit of a shocker to me!
At the Peter Sagan level, and the level of fame that guy has around the world. Commercials etc. If van der Poel has that level in him, it has to be more in it for him at the road level.
I realise i just lost my whole argument in the last post, but hey, here's to it!

Money-wise, to be really worthy to move from CX to road, you need to be one of the best riders in the world to be payed as much as he is payed in CX

Right now his sentiment is pretty clear, the road is a tad too boring to be fully involved with it. In MTB and CX he just gets the full on racing that he desires and which the article describes. Additionally his big goal is Tokyo 2020. Sure money is an issue but Wout and he are so dominating, I doubt that Mathieu will ever have money problems. And as soon as he switches to road, he'll get a nice big paycheck from Sky.

Seems like rumours are growing Froome will try the Giro-Tour double next year? What's your take on it. Can Sky formula work in the Dolomites and crazy may weather of Italy? IMO Landani will be the end of Froome's aspirations to win the Giro and perhaps even another GT altogether.

Won't happen, because Sky won't compromise their Tour. The July race is too big a sponsorship and exposure opportunity that the best rider will go there in the best form. I could see Froome starting the Giro, but under form and riding to a 4th/5th place on minimal effort if not pulling out completely being adrift after two weeks.
Sky would be better served by giving more freedom to some of it's lieutenants or youngsters.
If i was Sky i'd wait for Lappartient to get the Giro and Vuelta cut to two weeks and do the Triple in a few years time with Tao or Egan or Pavel

Has anyone ever held all three grand tours at the same time?
I think it was Froome's plan to win the Vuelta the year before and then go for the 100th Giro to take all 3. I think this is a goal for him so wouldn't be surprised to see him go for it. Take a year out of the Tour to achieve something that has never been done before.

In other news, Dwars Door Vlaanderen gets buchered. Down to 180km (possibly 160 next year) and taking away Kwaremont and Patersberg. The idea is to get more top riders by making the race easier. I can't believe they killed off Driedaagse De Panne for this shit.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Merckx won 4 Grand Tours in a row. Giro 1972, Tour 1972, Vuelta 1973 (back then it was still first gt on calendar) & Giro 1973.

That's an incredibly boring route to me. They managed to make it easier than last year, probably a way to encourage Froome to take part and Dumoulin to come back. What a shame.

In theme with the race going to Asia, they design the Stage 1 profile in the theme of .2 Asian races, I like it. 
Agree that that route is terrible though, doesn't feel like the Giro at all.

Entirely this. The focus has been on trying to get Froome to participate, and you can see the groundwork in the last couple of editions. And it's worked because Froome will be there, and presumably to go for the win.
Although, riders can make any route exciting so there's always hope of a classic edition...

It's a good route (not considering the first 3 stages are in Israel ofcourse).
All mountain stages apart from Etna will be longer than 5 hours.
A good amount of intermediate stages maybe those should have been spread out a bit more.

I do not like the route. While the start in Israel (apart from the political stuff that will happen) looks really interesting, I only really can't wait for one stage. And that is that Awesome Finestre, Sestriere, Jafferau stage, which looks like an awesome race if favourites light it up at the Finestre already.
