I was thinking this might be a good stage to put either Bouchard or Buitrago in the breakaway. We got both there and we're rewarded with a 3rd place on the stage.
On the other hand Pogacar loses time to key competitors on a stage where he really shouldn't. I guess we can't get any good without getting the bad also

Well that stage went about as badly as humanly possible.
I can't complain as I was the one calling for aggression, but we ended up losing a lot. Gregaard and Kamna both outside the top 20 now, Eg outside the top 30, and Quintana down to 14th. Very rough. It would have been one thing if they fell off at the end and got some KOM points or something, but nope.
Can only hope it goes better later on I guess.

I might get relagated, but to be fair - it doesn't matter. It was worth the effort to race in the Tour de France so far

This was a bad stage. We needed to gain more on such a huge mountain stage (and of course i'm not a fan of letting the break win it)

Ouch. Giannoutsos paid big time for his efforts from the previous day. Let's hope he can recover better in the coming days. Was kinda pleased that he joined the group together with Carapaz, as I suspected he could get a decent KOM result. I always knew he wouldn't get a top result the day after an attack.
Carapaz is just a very poor rider unfortunately. On paper he should have landed a solid stage result here, but he even got overtaken by Giannoutsos in the end, after he dropped from the main group.

Another stage win, this time with Carthy! Probably what we need him to do as he just took a whipping in the first TT and will take another worse one on stage 20 too.
As a result its probably not great news that we sit comfortably inside the top 10 as we won't be joining the breaks again and will miss out on KOM points as a result. Its not terrible as the next 2 stages offer chance of recovery for Carthy before the last 3 mountain stages, a top 10 GC is still possible I guess.
I also hope Yates has something in the tank for tomorrow especially, should be a stage made for him as well, hoping it doesn't go to the breakaway...
May be wrong but Phinney doesn't seem to have it VS Lecuisinier, can't blame him as PHL is a stud but I just feel he'll lose too much time over the next week to make the last TT a bit of a non-event.

Awesome to see Nesset getting a win! He's been in a lot of GT breakaways over the years, so great feeling to see him snatch a win. Trondsen also with a few decent results, so a fairly good race for us, coming here mainly for the stages. Hopefully we can also manage something in the last third of the race.
Sorry for missing the start of the race, but thanks for the all reports so far, kandesbunzler!

I hope Cattaneo might sneak in one of those breaks near the end of the race. Only losing places this way.

What a race this is for ryant and cycleYorkshire! Congratulations again
For us, I suspect Preidler needed a calmer day after yesterday’s breakaway effort. Hoping we get back to aggression, as we have absolutely nothing to loose regarding GC placings. At least that will give us some coverage
Strong Phinney there to limit the damage, still making this a fight for PHL, which is enjoyable to follow! |

Even better from Barguil today - another 30 seconds or so and hopefully he'll have a sufficient gap to stay in the top 5 after the TT. However, the success of the GC riders in breaks is a slight concern, as he's too far up to be likely to benefit and in the danger zone for losing places to them. |

Pretty boring stuff from McNulty but that is probably his best approach as he doesn't have the secondaries to support aggressive riding. Fear we will continue to lost time to Pog in small chunks and it will be over before the TT (think Phinney has the same issue vs PHL). Still a top 10 would be a great results for the team. Would be nice to see Kuss in a break before the end.
Thanks for the reports to KB. Congrats to the winners, cycleYorkshire all over it. I think the key to bringing back breaks is some super-domestiques like Conci and Mamykin in the Vuelta, not sure if those riders are here.

Pogacar looks weaker and weaker with each passing day. With the breakaways going and vaulting riders nearly onto the GC podium, we might not even get the top 10 goal.

Next two stages will be hard for Sivakov since he is the weakest puncheur of the top15, but I hope his recuperation will help him to survive both stages.

A tight fight for the win, but all in all very happy with a second for Hulgaard. Very important points for us.
Congrats to Lidl on the win and thanks for a good fight!

Sorry for not having commented so far. Thanks for the great coverage so far!
For my team the race is going quite well, even though the stage win is still missing. We got some podiums though and are well positioned in the Points as well as Mountains classifications. |

Calm stage, but I'm worried about the next one. Maybe we can get in the breakaway.

Fantastic from Mansouri! That's the kind of result I was hoping he'd be able to get when maxed, so nice to see it arrive a couple of seasons early. |

Time is running out for Cattaneo to make a move. Waiting for the TT is a lost cause
