Complicated Renewals for Aker - MOT

Just when the team's management thought they had everything under control for the upcoming season, renewals hit them. And the negotiations hit them hard, as team manager ember admits they didn't quite go as planned.

The biggest headline was of course that Eduard Alexander Beltran left the team, as the team really wanted him for another season, having shown that already a year ago investing quite a lot in his training. Then German sprinter, proven to be world class on his day, Gerald Ciolek was the next rider to leave, though, that was a decision Ciolek and the team agreed on, as both parts thought it was the best solution for everyone involved.

Also Petr Vakoc walked out the door not able to agree on the terms for another season together with the team, which was another blow for the team, as they offered him three different contracts, but all of them were declined. Finally, valuable domestiques Carl Fredrik Hagen and Souheil Khederi also left the team, as there was a minor disagreement on the wage terms in the negotiations. They left on friendly terms, keeping the door open for a possible return at a later stage.

What to say? That was some difficult weeks for us, as we really hoped to build on the team we put together for the 2018 season. I think we also proved to Beltran that he was a rider we wanted to build a team around, having invested several millions on his training to make his preparations for the 2018 season the best possible. It's with great sadness we acknowledge he won't be a part of our team in the upcoming season, says team manager ember.

It means the team is heading for another rebuild, having been through a major shake-up going into the 2018 season. With prominent riders like Ciolek, Beltran and Vakoc gone, there is obviously budget and room for a bigger signing, or bigger signings.

We can only adapt. As you might have seen, Kjell Inge Røkke has kind of said he wasn't happy with how our internalization of the team turned out, as we weren't anywhere close to that overall podium in the Pro Tour with it, which was his goal. I think it's only natural to look to what has worked well for us in the past, and maybe we need to focus and prioritize the Scandinavian market again, like we did after our promotion back in 2013 and all the way up to the previous season, says ember.

Those comments by our team manager makes it logical for us to publish an overview of our current riders and their availability going into the transfer season.

Rider name 2019 wage Change Availability
Matteo Trentin € 460.000 + 10.000 Yes
Rasmus Guldhammer € 400.000 None Unlikely
Fredrik Strand Galta € 240.000 - 60.000 No
Sondre Holst Enger € 220.000 - 30.000 Unlikely
Daniel Vesely € 210.000 - 10.000 Unlikely
Yoann Paillot € 170.000 + 10.000 No
Tom Scully € 120.000 - 5.000 Yes
Sindre Skjostad Lunke € 100.000 + 50.000 No
Andreas Vangstad € 75.000 + 5.000 No
Hampus Anderberg € 65.000 - 35.000 No
Janis Dakteris € 60.000 - 29.000 No
Daniel Oss € 60.000 - 20.000 No
Azzedine Lagab € 50.000 - 30.000 Unlikely
Philipp Walsleben € 50.000 None No
Burr Ho € 50.000 None Unlikely
Clement Lhotellerie € 50.000 None Unlikely
Takeaki Amezawa € 50.000 - 15.000 No
Trond Hakon Trondsen € 50.000 None No
Adrian Gjølberg € 50.000 None No

Though, our history in previous transfer seasons obviously shows that these hints on our riders availability isn't done and dusted. If the right discussion and potential deal is offered or talked about, we will be interest, no matter whom of our riders it involves.

Glad to see young Galta taking one for the team where others didn't, super nice wage for him. He's a keeper Wink Hope you can bounce back from a tough renewals in style. Certainly interesting to see Trentin on the block. Not sure I'll be up for the bidding war with post #102, but who knows? Pfft

@knockout: Yeah, Beltran gone was annoying, especially with all the "hill stat will be more important in PCM18" as well, in addition to his training last season. Looking forward to talk to you, I'm sure we'll find riders to talk about Smile

@Atlantius: I'm excited to see how you plan to build your team for the PCT, with lots of free cap space coming up from the CT. Will be interesting to hear from you when the time is there.

@jandal7: Agree on Galta! He was the positive surprise this renewals, especially considering his lucky/breakaway success filled 2018, that gave him some nice results. Regarding Trentin, I'll be happy to hear from everyone who is interested in signing him Smile

@Aquarius97 & jandal7: Scully did some good last season, just ask Ciolek! Grin Pfft

@Yellow Jersey: I doubt that, but nothing can be more interesting for me, as I really don't know what kind of deal I hope to have for Trentin, whether it should include another rider(s) or a money talks deal.

@baseballlover312: The chance has been there every season, but it will take some convincing Pfft

Some good, some bad. A mixed renewals I guess! Interesting to see Trentin possibly being available. We loved having him in our team back in the day.

Transfer News: Major Changes

Admittedly we expected quite a shake-up going into this transfer season. With Trentin being listed as a rider searching opportunities elsewhere, and Beltran and Vakoc already out the door after renewals, we long thought of how to solve the situation.

In the end, you could argue the team is worse off than going into the transfer season, but that's the beauty of transfers. Nevertheless, we're proud to present our new leaders.

Rein Taaramäe Stage racer 1.000.000 32 years old OVL: 82,17
FL MO HI TT ST RS RC CB SP AC FI DH PR
75 85 78 81 79 80 79 52 60 76 70 70 79

It's a pleasant surprise to announce Rein Taaramäe will ride in our colours the upcoming season. Arguably being the best stage racer in the world, we can't wait to see what he's capable of this season. He was part of a surprising deal seeing Guldhammer and Trentin leave the team, after T-Mobile expressed interest in both. We'll have a good look at his schedule to see what races he'll do. With the current look of the team, Taaramäe will be an absolute key to avoid relegation, which we hope we can do with the Estonian leading the line.

Ben Swift Sprinter 660.000 32 years old OVL: 79,58
FL MO HI TT ST RS RC CB SP AC FI DH PR
74 61 68 70 73 70 82 69 84 82 64 61 70

Finally we have a world class sprinter in the team. Ben Swift joins the team rom Aegon - Lavazza in a deal that made time trialist Yoann Paillot and sprinter Daniel Vesely go the other way. Admittedly Swift is the only sprinter we've now got, compared to last season where we tried our luck with Ciolek, Vesely and Holst Enger. But as shown last season, we have the team to put our sprinter in a good position, and hopefully Swift can capitalize on that. He'll have our full support and hopefully a proper leadout train whereever he goes this season.

We would also like to use the opportunity to express our gratitude towards the riders who have left the team. They have all been important for us in the past, and we've had some great moments in different races and on different terrains with Matteo Trentin, Rasmus Guldhammer, Daniel Vesely and Yoann Paillot. We hope they can continue their careers at a high level, with T-Mobile and with Aegon - Lavazza.

In other transfer news, the team has secured several riders from the Free Agent market, and we hope to present them sooner rather than later.

It's a very interesting bet for short terms results. Should be a fun season for you with those two superstars in the same team. I find hard to believe that ever before someone has had both the undoubtly best GC rider and probably the best sprinter in the same team

@Aquarius97: Fingers crossed we at the very least bring home more wins than last season. That should in itself give us a lot more to cheer for.

@AbhishekLFC: Taaramäe and Swift forced my hand! Pfft

Transfer News: Domestiques Join

With Taaramäe and Swift announced earlier today, our other transfer deals will obviously not have the same impact on our budget. Nevertheless we were counting on bringing in several domestiques, especially for the mountains, as Taaramäe obviously deserves our attention.

Thus, in short time after the Swift deal was sealed, we got news of four other riders putting pen to paper to ride for us in 2019.

Lorents Ola Aasvold Climber 50.000 31 years old OVL: 74,01
FL MO HI TT ST RS RC CB SP AC FI DH PR
66 76 75 65 71 70 68 52 65 72 65 67 64

We're very happy to bring home a familiar face. Aasvold joined our team back in 2013, which was our first season in the Pro Tour and our second year of existence. He served as a loyal domestique for five years, giving his best in the mountains for riders like Contador, Spilak, Dan Martin and Guldhammer. The 2018 season saw him search new challenges, but we're thrilled to have him back this season.

Peter Pruus Stage racer 50.000 30 years old OVL: 73,53
FL MO HI TT ST RS RC CB SP AC FI DH PR
72 72 72 73 71 73 72 64 69 73 68 76 73

Bringing in Estonian Pruus was a suggestion from Taaramäe, and we happily agreed when our scout in the Baltic states gave us his report on Pruus. His abilities speaks for themselves, he'll be a key rider to do the early work for Taaramäe. We obviously don't expect him to be there deep in the final, but he's a very solid rider who should be able to perform decent and do work in the peloton for a long time on difficult stages.

Kashyapa Siriwardena Stage racer 50.000 27 years old OVL: 73,32
FL MO HI TT ST RS RC CB SP AC FI DH PR
67 74 73 72 71 73 72 56 58 68 74 65 72

This is a first! We've never had a Sri Lankan rider in our team, until now. Siriwardena joins us after finding himself without a contract, having ridden the 2018 season with the Farfetch team. He's a very similar rider to Pruus, as his green sea of stats suggests. His role will naturally be similar to to Pruus', as he's likely to follow Taaramäe whereever he goes to be one of the workhorses in the first part of the race when the race demands you to do well going uphill.

Serghei Tvetcov Stage racer 140.000 31 years old OVL: 75,99
FL MO HI TT ST RS RC CB SP AC FI DH PR
71 77 75 74 72 71 76 58 72 73 73 64 75

Tvetcov joined the team in a deal that also saw our sprinter Sondre Holst Enger leave the team to try his luck with cycleYorkshire in the PCT. Tvetcov was signed to be Taaramäe's wingman in the mountains, making sure our leader won't be isolated too early. Together with Sindre Skjostad Lunke, this will be the most important task for Tvetcov. He'll also get a lot of chances to shine on his own, as only half his race days at most will be locked to races Taaramäe does. He's a versatile rider who also bags a decent sprint, meaning he could make the most out of breakaway opportunities. We hope to see him try his luck a couple of times during the season.

It`s really interesting that my initial thinking was to swap Swift with Trentin, which didn`t work out but still both were involved your big deals, which creates maybe one of the top3 powerful duos of the division.

Will be interesting to see the full team around them in the end to see how much scoring you get elsewhere.

So many signings and so few Norwegians Shock Not sure if Røkke is going to like this.

Some great signings though. Great value in the domestiques and of course two world class leaders. Will be interesting to see how far they can bring you up the rankings.

Thanks for the Enger deal, was a pleasure to work with you Wink

I will follow Tvetcov's year in the big time with some interest! Good luck!
