Seriously guys? Really? It's the freaking 4th of June guys. That means it hasn't been May for four days! Time for a new thread.
I'd start it off with news, but that would be against the spirit of the thread. |

Tour of Britain route presented - and it’s an interesting and varied one.

Needs more Yorkshire, 100% to be precise.

Yorkshire already has a race all to itself. To be fair the British landscape doesn't really lend itself to exciting pro bike racing. We don't have any real variation of roads.

Caleb Ewan might be leaving Mitchelton-Scott to join Lotto-Soudal.
I didn't expect this at all

The struggle to balance Simon, Adam and Esteban alongside supporting a top class sprinter. Mitchelton don't have the financial backing to run premier GT GC and sprint squads. Someone's going to end up unsupported and unhappy. And if i was running that team i'd get behind the trio of climbers rather than the lone sprinter.

But Ewan is the only Australian star in an Australian team (then Tsmoha will come and say and what about Jack Haig ) which would be strange as since their beginning they always had most of the top Aussies in the team, but in the last few years, all are leaving.
I would drop Chaves instead and build on Yates' brothers and Caleb, but as it looks it's Ewan the one that wants to leave, wit him wanting to lead TdF as sprinter having full support

What Manx said is obvious, they cant support 100% top sprinter and topGC guys (well one would argue that Ewan has better results than GC guys, Yates fucked up Giro massively).
But if i had to choose, i would go with australian star wth australian team. Even when Yates bros were saying what they were in the past, i would bet a fortune they will be in SKY jersey within 3-4 years. Then Scott can cry the should have supported Ewan better, so he was not "forced" to leave.

During the Giro I read an article about their financial situation. It said, that likely they only can afford 1/4 of those.
Ewan linked to Lotto as Greimel is ageing and their history with Aussie sprinters makes sense.
Simon linked to Trek as Contador replacement finally.
Then question is who of the other two are staying. |

Would be surprised to see Chaves leave - then again all three climbers seem happy there. Not that I know them personally
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Why would they keep Chaves over either of the Yates? He hasn't done anything for 2 years.

Don't get me wrong, I love Orica, but they are slowly being unsurped by Cannondale as the foremost Aussie team, they went from having Gerrans, Goss, Matthews, etc. as leaders to having largely foreign leaders with now Ewan being rumoured to leave. While Cannondale has an Aussie development team and is bringing talents up to the World Tour.

Chaves is the only one with still a contract for the next year, so....I'm expecting a kind of auction for Yates twins, and not sure if they will ride together again, They usually don't now that are in the same team...

Yates had stunning Giro. How did he fucked up massively?
He is young guy..winning 3 stages (or was it 4)..holding pink jersey over 10 days.
Every damn team wants to sign that massivly failed raider now. |

In the last 2 years Chaves has two GT Podiums and a Monument, you do the Colombian a disservice!

The Giro podium was more than 2 years ago now, so you are doing him more service than he should be served.

He finished 21st in GC after holding the maglia rosa with three days to go and it was not because of crash or whatever...if that is not massive fuckup, i dont know what it is.
Also he is 25years old and his best GT finish is 6th place at Vuelta (and his other top result beside three Giro stages is win at GP Indurain), not that he is world beater of some sort, for example mentioned Chaves has a lot more to show. Ofc still a very valuable rider to look for, but as i said, i would go with australian sprint star with australian team, rather than a guy who slipped from 1st place to 21st within three days.

Yates situation isn-t complicated to figure out.. He obviously peaked too soon, he started off in Jerusalem very strong. The Giro was immensely hard with 8 +195Km stages, with several being very hard. I found it obvious ever since Etna that he would crack in the final week, no rider can peak for a whole GT, specially not in the Giro where everyday's a battle.
It was a fuckup in a preparation point of view.. But it was still a massively successful Giro you can't take that away from him. When he gets it right yes I believe he has a shot of fighting for the win in Giro/Vuelta in 2018/2019

Good Point Manx. However, he did have a very good year in 2016. He hasn't done anything since 2016 and didn't really do anything before 2016.
He's 28 years old so it's not as if he's got any great potential either. He should be at his peak now. Can you really build your whole team around a rider of his age who has had one good year in his whole career?
