Isle of Man ITT

Category: C160,1 kmterrain: hilly ITT Isle of Man

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2016/profiles/c1/c1_iom.png

Biking on the Isle of Man has always been popular, but in the latest years, cycling has grown there too. The former moto TT on the Isle of Man has grown into a massive event including a hilly ITT as part of the Man-Game PCT calendar.

Last years winner Reus is not here, and that is a huge mistkae for sure looking at the profile and the current ranking positions. At least one former winner is here: 2010 champion pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus_bel.png Cornu. He should've pretty decent chances for another podium or even the win. Let's see what his opponence looks like:

TTRsHiTTRsHi
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar_ger.png Fiedler837668pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Cancellara797168
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus_bel.png Cornu817672pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Atkins787568
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Yatsevich808168pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp_por.png Oliveira787473
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Gonzalez Salas807660pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp.png Nascimento787368
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vad.png Paillot807471pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar.png Balloni787166
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Schädlich807164pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Ligthart786658
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden807063pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Brajkovic777975
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Viviani797766pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Ghyselinck777768
pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Brändle797371pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Christian777169

In a normal long ITT pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/kar_ger.png Jacob Fiedler should of course be the outright favourite. He is by far the strongest pure time triallist, and has a decent resistance and flat stat on offer. But then there are two problems that might occure to the German champion: 1. The strong influence of form in TTs and the influence of the climbing part starting in the second half of the long road.

There former winner pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/eus_bel.png Dominique Cornu could scrap the party. The belgian champion will surely be the first contestant. Beneath having the second best pure TT ability he should got over the hill quite a bit better than the German. Also his acceleration advantage might hand him a few seconds over on the starting ramp and after the speedbumps.

pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vad.png Yoann Paillot points in a similar direction. He needs a hard drive on the climbing parts, and then he should be a huge contestant for the podium.

Even more chances should go for two guys that might not be the real deals on the first view, but look even more dangerous on the second: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Matthias Brändle and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/prp_por.png Nelson Oliveira. Both should make a lot of time on the underestimated climb, and could on a good day go far into the Top 5.

As the final individual favourite there is pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Janez Brajkovic to mention. His fantastic climbing and resistance ability make him a real contender despite his more medipocre time trial ability. If he stays in contact until half of the race he is a clear winning contender, otherwise he's worth a bold prediction on the podium. At least an interesting plan to send a real allrounder to this ITT.

Interestingly quite some CT teams have made their way up here, though only one guy should have the ability to hurt the favourites though: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spb.png Yatsevich. His skillset makes him a clear podium candipdate for Spark. The only other guy of the 6 CT teams with options here should be pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/spw.png Christian, but he needs a perfect day for a Top10 to make his appearance valuable.

Then there are plenty of more high TT low back-up stat riders, that are always to watch and on an outstanding day able to finish in the top positions: In first line the Generali guys pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Van Winden and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Viviani, but also pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/hgb.png Gonzalez Salas, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/wha.png Schädlich and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/npn.png Cancellara. They all should lack the hilly/resistance ability to perform in podium range though.

Some more interesting outsiders for a higher Top 10 are: pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/gen.png Ghyselinck, pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vad_fin.png Pökälä and pcmdaily.com/files/Micros16/vtb_swi.png Schär.

Hey I thought more top TTists would show up! Much higher chances of achieving that top 10 goal and making it 3/4 for the season, with decent possibilities of taking that to 4/5. Obligatory fuck Duo Differdange.

Anyway! Van Winden has been very underwhelming lately after a great season start that went above and beyond my expectations, while Viviani decided to start performing like he's supposed to in Olympia and then in Norway after he started off the season with no better time trials than a 73 TT rider. Ghyselinck has been consistent throughout the season and outperformed both my leaders at Olympia, so I have 3 good options.

But then we have a huge problem, which is that cheeky hill in the second part, goddammit. Now that is going to make a random discipline like TTs even more random, and I really am afraid that some weird shit might go down.

Until then though good luck to everyone!

Woah, same as Matt expected a tougher field here - I dont definetely mind though. Top 5 for Salas here would be great if he could achieve that.

This type of terrain does not favor Fiedler, but nevertheless expected a fiercer competition in this race. With these participants I think that maybe a top 5 is within reach, whatever is below the top10 will already be a disappointment.

I really hope Paillot will chose this day to shine. In prime condition he should be able to grab a podium. Hopefully Pökälä will find some good legs to score as many points as possible as well.

This should be a nice race. On the board it looks quite a clean deal for the likes of Fiedler and Cornu, but the final hill could really shuffle things. I'm counting on that to see Oliveira push forward in the final classification, even though he hasn't shown much this season.

Thanks for the immersive preview Croatia Wink and good luck everyone!

Great preview croatia! Will be interesting to see how much the climb up and over the mountain (yes, I know it is a hilly race, but it is called the Mountain during Manx TT race) will affect the rankings. If Brajkovic is able to be there or thereabouts time-wise before the climb, he could be in with a big chance.

Hoping for a surprise top 5, but that will probably be very hard in this field. With Cancellara and Brajkovic, not reaching the top 10 it would be an incredible disappointment.

Thanks for another detailed preview, Croatia!

If nothing unusual happens my group of guys will only fight for low top20th. We need exceptional daily form to interfere with the best.

matt17br
We made it! I can't believe it went as well as it did! I'm pretty surprised the hill had so little influence, but looking at this race history it's not as odd. Daily form however, that definitely had an enormous impact as usual. Cornu totally got a -5 there, I couldn't be more sorry for LLS, when arguably the favourite finishes 20th, 3 mins back.

Onto more flattering stuff, I'm glad at least one of my 3 riders could get a very positive form and violently snatched a 6th place. I would have been less "guilty" had that been Viviani or Ghyselinck considering how much Dennis sucks uphill, but hey, an achieved goal is an achieved goal.

Massive congratulations to fintas for yet another demonstration that paying Fiedler's wage is worth it. Or at least it looks like it is! And thanks a million to Croatia for the great effort in reporting this.

Congrats to Fiedler, he was the favorite and delivered. Great result for my team with 2nd and 4th. A lot betyer than expected, schadlich must have had a +5 day

Congrats on another Fiedler win. Suddently things seem to change for Fintas. A promotion spot within reach?

Also congrats to Heine. Always nice to see the former PT teams succesfully attempting to get back up.

Gratz to Karcher and thanks to Croatia! Race was interesting stuff to follow.

With van Zandbeek on a good day we got our fair share,... but definitely have to reconsider if this race will be worth another stay.

Mixed feelings here, top 10 is fine but could have been better looking at Schadlich and other similar riders. congratz fintas and thanks crotia for the nice report Smile

Meh another lacklustre day from Oliveira. I really wasn't expecting him to be the guy to pull us down this year. Cornu was even worse, what happened there? He should have ended 15-20 places higher.

Strong Fiedler delivers as usual even with that unavoidable lump in the profile. Congrats fintas.

Also thank you cro for another interesting report!

This game does not stop surprising me, how is it possible that Fiedler won so clearly a TT with that hill so close to the end? The only explanation is the daily form with Fiedler clearly with +5 and the main rivals like Cornu with -5.
Still is a great victory and quite important as it consolidates the position of the team in the middle of the table,

Thanks guys and one more time thanks for the great report

Absolute rubbish. Moments like these are what decides seasons. Daily form absolutely screwing us there. PCM stats mean nothing...

Thanks for a great report.

Really happy with Paillots podium. Pökälä didn't out-do himself but that was hardly expected either so no harm there.
Nurmi was there to learn and gather experience for his future as a keg in the TTT-train. so finishing last is no harm even thoug it would have been nice to have him beat someone at least Wink

I keep expecting something from our TTists, but have so far garnered a single podium from Joost Posthuma of all people.
The wait continues.
