We are in Russia for this c2 one day classic. One that will certainly favour the puncheurs. We go 9 times over a climb (c. 5 KM @ 5%), with only the last hundred meters, or so, to the line seeing the gradient ease off.
Favourites:
- Kolobnev
- Lejman
- Mendes
- Bugge
- Tiernan-Locke
- Wyss
- Hollenstein
- Geschke
- Bole
- Pozdnyakov
With home advantage it is Kolobnev who will start amongst the race favourites. His team is primarily Russian and a podium, minimum, is surely the goal as his team will look to move closer to the top spots in the division. Lejman has already won races at c2 this season and may target another win here, however, with an uphill finish many will find it difficult to see past Mendes as the winner here, the Portuguese has scored a ton of the points this season but is yet to win a one day classic.
The next batch of favourites include riders from Risa - Ergon and Team Vontobel. Both teams have potential winners of this race, which is sure to have an impact on the battle for fourth place. Euskaltel-Bavaria Continental Team, therefore, may miss out as they don't have one of the stand out riders here, they will look to another breakaway win.
The final batch of favourites in this preview consists of riders with a good sprint in addition to the ability of coping well with the hills. The likes of Geschke and Pozdnyakov certainly can't be ruled out for a top result. But will a good sprint come in handy with this uphill finish?

Finally racing again for me. I'm not having a very strong team here, but considering the small amount of teams I can hope for a top 10 from Ito, which could get us some well needed points in the promotion battle. |

This is possibly the best shot Mendes has at winning a classic, and we really need it. Failure's not an option.

Perhaps a little odd that, like Mendes, as one of the divisions top puncheurs, Kolobnev has yet to taste victory this season (classic or otherwise). He has been racking up the points nice and steadily, but a victory, especially at home would cap a good season for him after dropping down from the PCT. We have our full Russian contingent here, and it is the last race of the season for both Tatarinov and Chernetskiy (who will then return to his parent team Tinkoff).
While not our strongest 1-day team, hopefully Fonte will be strong enough to place Kolobnev in the right position when things kick off in the finale, and the others are decent at pacing if a break needs to be chased (principally Zabalo). With the decent length (for CT), stamina might also play an important part at todays race.
Look forward to the report.

Hopefully JTL can do better than the dismal 16th in the Cauberg Classic, I really want a podium here, maybe something more

Hopefully Pozdnyakov or Firsanov can get me another victory here, or at least top-5. Nationality bonus should be helpful, but on the other hand they are part of my team...

How much space is on the podium?
I nominate Marcel Wyss, because of his outstanding stamina, his ability to rest or attack downhill and the way he has proven that races like this one are the perfect fit for him.
Race is important pointswise and the final test for Vontobel's season highlight in Züri were almost the same all swiss squad starts.

Every point counts here.
Ideally Geschke word finish ahead of Mendes but I'm doubtful to say the least.
Nice to see such a small start list in our last good chance for points

Ashgarzadeh's chance to lead us, probably should have sent Schurter but I wanted to give Ashgarzadeh a chance to lead us as pre-season I was expecting to stay CT and tighten my nationality focus at the end of this season which would see him leave us.
With the top 10 and promotion battle I'm not as sure on that plan as I was at the start of the season, depends if we promote or not and whose available that fits our focus that could replace him otherwise.
No Idea why I sent Awang though, can only guess at it being down to limited race days left due to a race clash but I really can't remember what I was thinking at the time, that said being a C2 race and outside of Asia it definately would have been one of the last ones I planned so it's a possibility I mistook the profile and rushed the last couple of races.
Hopefully our top 10 rivals don't pull away from us too much in this race as we might need to rely on getting in a lucky break if we want to limit the damage caused by our weak lineup.

Well... Fonte was strong enough to lead another Russian rider to a victory... https://pcmdaily.com/forum/viewthread....d_id=32675

Seeing the startlist the podium should be achievable.
Difficult to see past Mendes in these kind of races, also wondering how the national bonus will impact on Kolobnev

Ah fuck off Mendes, this isn't funny anymore.
Still, we did well. Nice and high scoring, still looking good for Top 10 in the rankings, thanks for the report The Rider.

woo we got a 1-2
How did Awang win that?
wait what do you mean the results are the wrong way up?
top 20 will do, can't really expect much better considering who we sent and who we left at home.
