With the Ruta America del Sur we have the next big C2 event on the screen. The C2HC rated race through South America is a perfect race for the pure puncheurs. Only a short prologue to start the race, 1-3 flat stages and 4 puncheur stages. So it`s not a big surprise that we see a great startlist here filled with the divisions top puncheurs and sprinters.
Rider | Hill | Prologue | Sprint | Mendes | 78 | 69 | | Passalacqua | 76 | 58 | | Haas | 76 | 68 | | Tiernan-Locke | 76 | 61 | | Godoy | 75 | 66 | | Bugge | 75 | 67 | | Cioban | 75 | 63 | | Duggan | 75 | 73 | | Wyss | 75 | 69 | | Rosskopf | 74 | 75 | | Geschke | 74 | 64 | 76 | Pozdnyakov | 73 | 71 | 75 |
Outstanding puncheur is obviously Jose Mendes, who must be named top favourite. Behind him lots of similar strong riders, which could make it very interesting.
Also riders like Geschke and Pozdnyakov must be named. As the hilly stages are not the hardest and no stage has a longer hill top finish, it`s possible that those two can hang on behind the best and then fight for stage wins and time bonusses.
Rider | Sprint | Hill | Forero | 80 | 61 | Serebriakov | 80 | 61 | Haedo | 79 | 65 | Manarelli | 79 | 59 | Hochmann | 79 | 54 | Fonseca | 78 | 61 | Sutton | 77 | 62 | Sabatini | 77 | 62 | Aguilar | 77 | 61 | Haddou | 77 | 52 | Geschke | 76 | 74 | Dahlberg | 76 | 66 | Arango | 76 | 63 | Brus | 76 | 63 | Angarita | 76 | 62 | Friedman | 76 | 61 | Korkotyan | 76 | 57 | Pozdnyakov | 75 | 73 | Iglinski | 75 | 71 | Lang | 75 | 70 |
It`s a good chance for Forero and Serebriakov to go for stage wins. Behind them though lots of riders that want to challenge them. One stage only is really flat. The other 2 sprinter options have some hills on the route, so this could become an advantage for the hillier sprinters as the named Geschke and Pozdnyakov. Also Iglinski and Lang must be watched there.
So who will win the race? A puncheur, a breakaway rider or even a sprinter surviving the hills?
In ~1 week we will know more. Here the full startlist. Obviously there are more teams than the mentioned ones so far. Those will surely hope for a breakaway win.

Back to South America.
Bonsucro have been doing great in the similar week long stage races all season, hope it continues here and with Godoy here it should. If Godoy performs well anywhere from now on it should be here in his home of Argentina. Doing well here won't harm our chances of achieving the goal of a top 10 in the America tour.
Manarelli will mix it up in the sprints, is capable of winning them, though he will need some luck to pick up his second win of the season.
Finally! Even though, I suppose, they are our arch rivals it would be nice to see Alpina do something (maybe pickup a stage win). Would be fitting to see both South American teams do well here.

Brought a strong squad here, so I expect a good result. Serebriakov should win a stage and hopefully Pozdnyakov can do well in the GC.

Get's a great competition with so many talented riders at the start.
For Marcel Wyss it's the first race after his victory in Rwanda, will see if he is still hungry. Team sent is good enough to play a dominant role.
Can't wait for your reports, roturn!

Has been a while since we raced... looking forward to this race somehow through the eternal cloud of pessimism, defeatism and complete lack of results that seem have been hanging over the Alpina squad so far this season
Maybe Forero can finally live up to the money we payed for him at the start of the season and deliver a win!

Thanks, same goes for you too; indeed it would be nice to see the South Americans firing on all cylinders in what is essentially a home race for all teams on the continent.

Big, big race for Mendes. Really hoping for something here. I'll have to catch up on it when I get back in two weeks though.

I have very high expectations on this race as all but the first and the seventh stage seem to fit Geschke well. With many bonus seconds available he seems to be a good guess for a good GC ranking.
Support team is good, too. None of my pure talents is here but everyone should be useful as dometique/leadout/powerhorse for Geschke.
Option B is Joeaar who should be one of the better Prologue Specialists (75) here and with his decent HI (71) he could get another decent GC result.
Bring it on!
Spoiler Also, I have to say that I am really surprised that Geschke and Bole don't challenge often. I expected them to have a very similar calender but until now they raced against each other extreme rarely.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Brought Rosskopf here hoping for maybe a top 5 result. I don't think the prologue will matter too much anyway, but here's hoping a reduced group makes it to the line on most hill stages, which would give me the best chance.
I also brought a couple sprinters to mix it up, but they're nowhere near on the level of the competition. Maybe they'll surprise me, you never know.
Overall cool race! Hope it isn't ruined by the breakaway bug

Hoping for some good stage results as well as Cioban doing a half-decent GC. Breakaway bug could be a good option for us

Wow, did anyone not bring a monster squad to this race? This looks to be the toughest race we have seen yet.

Brilliant start by Viktor
Also Dahlberg on 8th and Sarabia on 25th indicate some good form from the team. Hopefully it'll continue throughout the rest of the race.

Tough to predict anything from the very first few kilometres, but nice to see the race already started.

Huge race for us this. Need a very good result here after the poor opening of the season. Decent start also. Let's all hope that the we don't have any stupid breakaways

Reading the report: OMG, Joeaar got +8s which is only enough for 16th place.
Checking the results: Oh well, Lasse Norman Hansen got 5th. Well done!
Also, all eyes on Geschke. Being only +22 he has still every chance.

Anytime your team finishes in the top 5 there's not much to complain about. Solid, but not special ride from Rosskopf there to get some points. Again I don't think the few seconds edge he's got on the rest will make a big difference, but we will see. Will be tough not losing time especially with the packed startlist.

Another third place, not too bad. Korkotyan 6th is surprising, but I don't mind
