Welcome to the 15th edition of the E3 Prijs race. We're in Belgium for one of the last races in March and one of the last cobbled classics of the early season. Last year it was part of the HC series, while this year it's been moved all the way up to PT. As a result a certain Kiwi who's won this race 4 years in row, is now not in the race for a 2nd consecutive year. Still there are 3 former winners on the startlist with Summerhill, Trentin and Vanspeybrouck.
This race is often dubbed as a 'mini Ronde', so let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | HI | ST | RS | CB | SP | AC | Pedersen | 77 | 69 | 78 | 80 | 82 | 78 | 77 | Wisniowski | 80 | 71 | 75 | 76 | 83 | 73 | 76 | Per | 79 | 70 | 74 | 75 | 81 | 74 | 74 | Gerts | 77 | 78 | 76 | 80 | 82 | 72 | 70 | Senechal | 75 | 67 | 79 | 74 | 82 | 69 | 74 | Vanbilsen | 78 | 69 | 80 | 74 | 80 | 72 | 71 | Theuns | 72 | 74 | 76 | 73 | 80 | 77 | 76 | Summerhill | 77 | 72 | 75 | 71 | 82 | 69 | 72 |
The race has a decent length as well as plenty of the famous Flemish cobbled bergs, but there is a fair bit of flat asphalt before the finish. A sprint of a small group is definitely not out of the question therefore Pedersen could be the #1 dangerman. Wisniowski doesn't have a lot of history in this race, but he is the strongest cobbler/rouleur and thus the most likely to make a winning work from afar. Per can do a bit both, he probably just needs to pick the right moment. Gerts is another one who would do better to attack for a win, but there aren't any hills towards the end, perhaps an early attack for him?
Senechal knows how to make the right move, that's how he won Appia Antica. Vanbilsen's record in this race is not as good as you would think, perhaps the bergs tire him out too much. Still he's here as a wildcard with no pressure. Theuns beat Pedersen in a sprint in Appia Antica so he has every chance here as well. Summerhill is one of the favourites that's won here before even if it's way back in 2016, he still has what it takes to ride away from the competition.
| FL | HI | ST | RS | CB | SP | AC | Debesay | 75 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 79 | 69 | 78 | Altur | 75 | 70 | 75 | 70 | 82 | 72 | 68 | Zepuntke | 72 | 69 | 79 | 72 | 82 | 72 | 65 | Trentin | 73 | 73 | 74 | 69 | 80 | 74 | 74 | Kamyshev | 77 | 65 | 81 | 75 | 82 | 66 | 60 | Teunissen | 76 | 67 | 77 | 73 | 81 | 67 | 69 | Tiller | 74 | 70 | 76 | 75 | 78 | 74 | 73 | Spengler | 74 | 66 | 74 | 73 | 83 | 61 | 70 | Neilands | 77 | 69 | 74 | 73 | 78 | 71 | 67 | Kasperkiewicz | 76 | 74 | 75 | 77 | 81 | 59 | 67 | Polanc | 72 | 73 | 78 | 73 | 78 | 67 | 75 | Van Hooydonck | 73 | 71 | 75 | 74 | 80 | 61 | 72 |
These riders will probably be more likely fighting for a top 10 than for the top spot. Debesay's cobbled stat doesn't quite match the favourites, but he should do well apart from that. Altur and Zepuntke should both be there or there abouts in the end, but would probably struggle in a sprint. Trentin is defending champion, but he's declined and now against PT opposition. Still he's here as a wildcard with no pressure. Kamyshev can be a super domestique, but is also good enough by himself. Teunissen should attack or follow any move with his low sprint stat, same for Spengler, Kasperkiewicz and Van Hooydonck.

We bring the same as always - and expect nothing - yet are likely still dissapointed
Karatzios in top 50 for once would be nice.

Van Hooydonck lacks the sprinting a bit, so he needs a good day and a more selective race then. Let`s see. A top10 would be nice. |

Hoping for another Carlsberg win, they need those points!

Trentin already used his +5 underdog win last time around, so I doubt he has it in him again. And if he does, maybe he should save it for an actual PTHC race.
Happy to be back as a defending champion anyway. A top 10 would be nice. Otherwise, I just hope we're active and show the team colors!

A lot of hills, so not expecting Ruben to do crazy stuff here. Of course, also said that in Appia Antica and Macskako, so if he wants to surprise me with a third consecutive top-10 I'd be very happy. Thanks for the preview red, and good luck to all!

Great team performance, always active. Sadly we missed the decicive move that could've ended in a victory, but we did a great job in racing very active. Rickaert was really amazing!

What a silly season! Bad results in races where we expect to perform and getting wins where the odds seem to be against us.
And by the screenshot, Gerts seemed to start his celebrations quite early, good thing he didn't get Zabel'd

Exciting race to follow. Congrats to Huski and thanks redordead for the report!
Not a ton to say for us. Trentin had his day in the sun last week already. Cool to see Cannister attacking early on!

Depth wise this was okay but van Hooydonck really took a day off here and was far from his best and only 3rd best in the team is tough. Hopefully the only big offday this season. |

First of all, thanks for a superb coverage of a mad race to the amazing redordead.
Nice to see our 2 Dutch talents in the breakaway. Also nice to see Zepuntke hold on rather long, but when he cracked, he really cracked. Can't and won't blame him, though. Congratulations to Alex on a very important win.

Hmm, we didn't get the result we wanted here. Looked like we had a decent situation before Pedersen ran out of power, but was of course costly. Not the best test before the Rinde, but hopefully it was just a bad day and we'll see him at his best there.
Congrats, Alex!

We are always aiming for a top ten with one of Polanc/Neilands when we go to the cobbles. Now this is not the ideal profile for us and the race went against us very early so i guess i have to somewhat live with a 14th place for once
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Maybe this race wasn't fully suiting Summerhill but 7th place does feel a little underwhelming I've got to be honest. Swift did well from the breakaway to grab 11th so the race itself can't be described as bad by any means, just hoped that Summerhill would be in the conversation more often really. ????

Another good performance, lacking a good ending for Debesay. We'll keep trying I guess.

That was a great recovery from Wisniowski after getting dropped much too early.
Though, it's starting to become a theme that he can't deliver what we hoped for when signing him. Fingers crossed that changes in De Ronde, definitely the perfect place to change things around
Big congratulations on a massive win, alexkr! Outstanding performance by Gerts, and also being able to round it off. |

Good team work during this race, maybe a little bit too much actually, too bad it didn't result in a podium place. Another smashing report redordead!
