Franceville Classique Discussion

First of all, thanks for an awesome report Ulrich, that was a great read from start to finish!

Then, thanks for a great result Stallaert Grin I was a little afraid that he had done too much following so many attacks, and maybe it cost him that little bit of energy lacking for the win, but there's absolutely no shame in losing a sprint to Bewley (congrats Heine!) and I'll take second place here everytime.

Really quite the relief to see that Stallaert can compete for podiums and wins on this level. I don't expect him to do it every race, but to know that the possibility is there makes me even more optimistic for the rest of the season.

Lampaert, Okbamariam and Schoonbroodt even contribute a few depth points, giving us a nice 140 points here. Not quite on the level of Grieg, but that was an incredible team performance, congrats to tastasol! But really, we couldn't have asked for a much better start to the season, combining this with Silvestre's win in Down Under, Vliegen's second place in San Jose and an okay result in Hong Kong. And OHN is just around the corner, too!

I didn't expect much, and still got dissapointed. 0 points is bad even if we don't have a good team. Karatzios with 77COB should have atleast been in play for a top 25, Kortsidakis should also have been easily inside the 50 first.

Oh well. We expected little and got nothing, it's better to lose points this way than expecting a lot and getting little.

Thanks for a great report! As much as i like to shit on the new game for the sprints already, i really enjoyed the AI here.

Happy about the result too. Big Sam victorious for once, Stallaert with a strong showing for Bralirwa and Grieg with the perfect Quickstep imitation. Lots of things to like about it.

Found that report a little hard to follow in the second half. Whether it was too many distance & time references or just too many actions to follow, but i was definitely losing a view of the actual contenders and gaps that mattered. A long report is nice, sometimes a second pass just to trim it a little helps (plus i'm always in favor of shortening reporting overall).

Three in the Top20 should feel good, but Altur missing the Top10 obviously negates that. He made one half-assed follow attempt and then nothing. In fact we seemed totally invisible for this race. And that's worrying! If we can't get an attacking role from the AI when we miss the Contender role, we're f*cked for the year.

Flip side, Edmo & Wolverine were solid. Wolverine is well on track to be a top-tier CT cobble leader, and even Edmo is raising his hand for a CT contract next season. Nice little sub-plot to our cobbles campaign as they battle against the Caribbean's to lock up one of the 15 available slots. Speaking of which, Akil showing in an early move is nice.

81 Zepuntke would probably have finished in the same position, but at least encouraging signs of him joining a chasing group, something he almost always forgot to do. His training will show in tougher cobblestone races.

Thanks for the report Ulrich, congrats Mapei!

Happy with 10th from Fenn in the end, certainly the sort of result he is in the top to get. Would have loved for Rowe and the break to make it again but I'm glad we were active enough in the end. Depth points are lacking but it was kind of expected.

Bewley taking one of his last wins is nice to see and Grieg's investment in cobbles seems to be paying off as well.

Pretty great result by Debesay here, also forgot Laporte no longer rode for my team for a sec and got extra hype Pfft Wish we rode more conservatively here, no reason for Gaday and Menten to attack instead of just staying with the leader. But overall, a net positive race for us for sure. Thanks a lot for the report Ulrich! Cool to see Bewley still has one more season near the top in him.

Resell did some very hard work there! Bewley still the GOAT, but Grieg certainly got their money's worth as well.

Will keep that in mind. I don't really like reporting cobble races because they tend to have a lot going on and you end up with the problem you describe. It is also a function of interesting AI - a nice procession one attack and it is over is an easy report to write.

I find it hard to know what to ignore to keep the report shorter and easier for me and what to include to be fair to managers of 2nd tier favorites. And you ignore what you think is unimportant and then it turns into something important. And since I write the report during the race that requires a bunch of rework.

So a long reply to a concern about long reports and the message is I probably won't do it differently next time. But might cut back on the time and distance updates.

While we're on the subject of reports being hard to follow at times:

I don't know how much effort it would take to reroute stages, or to only select stages without laps in the final, say, 10km, but I think it would help a lot.

Jannik Steimle! Shock That was incredible.

What a ride, on the perfect day for selecting a strong sprinter to join an early move.

I was hoping for him to be able to hang onto the peloton with some energy left to sprint ever since seeing him in the early break, but even with that coming true, I definitely didn't expect him to have any sort of priority to stay around the very front going into the sprint!

70 points in his first wildcard role race in our jersey after his loan spell came to an end is easily a full season worth of points for a rider like him, and hopefully gives him confidence for his first maxed season in 2022 and possibly his future as an even better sprinter later on, no matter how the rest of his year goes.

Cavagna making the final selection as well is nice to see, although it only adds two points.
If he had been able to overperform in yet another cobbled classic by participating in the sprint, I'd have been over the moon.

The Bewbastard still has it! Congrats Mapei. Smile
I'm also very happy for Bralirwa in second place, that was an exciting finale and hopefully bodes well for both of these teams in their first season after promotion.
Grieg with a very valuable depth result as well will surely like their start into the cobbled season as well despite missing out on an even top individual finish.

Thanks Ulrich for trying to keep up with the crazy racing here! I very much enjoyed the AI as well.
