Manx International Discussion

Manx International
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c1/c1_min.png

Another hilly classic for the PCT/CT teams: the Manx International, going into it's 6th edition. Shorther than the recently held Clasica San Sebastian, it still comes with a similar character. Three "major" climbs across the route, with a downhill sector into a flat finish in Douglas. We've seen both bunch sprints and smaller groups sprinting for line honours here in the past five years, with Sanchez Gil (2015) as the only "real" solo-winner two years ago.

Just like in San Sebastian, Oleksandr Prevar is amongst the previous race winners (as the most recent winner here in 2016). The other past winners are Jack Bobridge (2014), Francisco Ventoso (2013) and Jonathan Bellis (2012). None of those names will be at it this season, so we will get a new name on the list.

The most probably winner should be Boasson Hagen: coming off a prestigious victory in San Sebastian, he's once again the clear favorite for the win. Not amongst the best downhill riders, which didn't prevent him from taking the San Sebastian glory though. There's simply no doubt about his role as the overwhelming favorite.

Di Maggio as the second best puncheur then. The Italian has quite a long history in this event, but is definitely lacking outstanding results here (finishing 8-17-7-7 in his four outings here). Surely he will aim for the podium this time. Just like Kinoshita (who was strong in San Sebastian as 3rd), Anuar Aziz (who certainly does not want to finish behind one of his domestiques again) and Gautier, who had a solid San Sebastian performance. Opposing to Betancourt, Zaini and Vogt.

Kwiatkowski (5th in San Sebastian), Waeytens, Juul-Jensen, Quevedo/Mohoric, van der Hugenhaben and Reichenbach as possible threats for the Top-5/10 then. Mixed results for those riders in San Sebastian, particularly Juul-Jensen should aim to bounce back from a disappointing result there.

And of course there's Ignatiev (7th in San Sebastian), who's stamina won't come into play here though. Still a dark horse for a notable result, of course. Kump with the same goal like Juul-Jensen: be a factor when it comes down to a sprint from a bigger group.

Hoping that JJ will have a bounce back race after a terrible San Sebastian. Goal is a top 10 and/or a significant attack.

Come on Eddy. We need something with how poor we are going in Portugal atm.

Hopefully Kinoshita can beat EBH. Zaini can hopefully get a Top 10 too. We need to have both fairly high up, to get a nice result here, based on how were doing everywhere else.

The only way Betancourt can disappoint me is if he crashes out.

Hopefully Gautier will be able/willing to challenge for the podium or at least a top 5

Well, if he's at the front of the chasing group like in San Sebastian he'll be 5th and if he's not he'll be 16th, seems weird that fluky positioning plays so large a part. Pfft

Thanks for the preview tsmoha! Not sure who will win this one. Pfft

I think this is our race to loose. If we play it smart there is only EBH that could stop us, as with Quevedo and with Mohoric's downhill stat especially we should have the perfect team to lead Kump out for the win on the final corner combinations, where the sprint should start. The last big race of the season for us, go Kump!

Well, I guess the time of the season has come in which we will closely monitor our rivals, even in races we didn't apply for.

So... Go PCT teams! Pfft

Hoping for a big break in the final climb preventing the sprinters from factoring into the race. EBH wins by a country like obviously, and hopefully A.A can stick with Kinoshita and co. and sneak into the top-5

I feel sorry for you Sad Not sure, how many crashes from Costa I've reported this year, but it's been definitely too many.

Of course Hagen wins it, we need to get him back to the PT Wink

Waeytens and Cerny getting some points for us, would've been better if Cerny had a sprint left but he was probably dead after the climb.

What the F*** happened to Gautier. From sitting in a good position to barely making it across the line. This is how it goes every time we help doing work in the peloton Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the report though.

Good stuff by Eddy again. Was a tad worried that Kwiato was going to catch up to him again, but seems like he found some more energy again.

Our support still totally absent. Skjerping just seems like a total waste, never close to doing anything really.

A great race for both Ferrero and Isostar as well here, so congrats to them. Great teamwork. Feel a bit sorry for Kwiato though, would have deserved to get more out of this race.

Thanks for the report, tsmoha!

Falls happen that's not my problem, the worst is when the rest of your team decides to take a day off and do nothing in the race. Vogt 80 hil 67th, Paulinho 78hil 60th

Well we were only here because of national focus and we didnt really expect much, shame Dennis got injured in the race, he might have been in the group of favourites in the end but that didnt happen. Happy we at least got some 'TV' time with Semple in the break but nothing else of note happened...

Congrats to EBH for the win and Ferrero for a massive team performance! Smile

Shame Kumpi couldn't hang on but nice race for Isostar either way Grin Kwiatek nice and aggressive but not getting the result needed at all Sad
