Milano - Torino
Category: C1 | 195,4 km | terrain: hilly | Italy |
A long history for Milano - Torino in the MG, and so is this episode a long waited for. The best of the best from PCT are here, including former winners Froome and McCarthy.

After a lot of flat kilometers we can almost surely expect an uphill drag race on the final kilometers. Surely the hill stat will play a major role, also acceleration and maybe even the mountain stat can come to play. Special interest is on the energy stats if weather is influencing the race heavily.
The best combination again might bring Kinoshita, who has wrecked the division so far. His toughest opponent so far, Flügel, is not here interestingly. Instead, spots on the 82 puncheurs Froome and Di Maggio, which should both very much welcome the race design.
In the same line, former winner McCarthy might have liked a little tougher race, but he's still a good bet as the defending champion. Anuar Aziz is similar, but slightly worse.
Of the 80s special mentions to CT flagship Klemme, who could well score a Top 10 here. Gautier and Ulissi are fast accelerators that shouldn't exactly like this race too much (beneath the general failure of the french working for Bellis in these races), bot could be capable of a Top5. van der Hugenhaben lacks the climbing here.
The other contender from CT is indeed Barbin, who looks decent though the opposition might be too tough for a Top 10 here. However, similar to Bilbao he brings anything with him that is needed in order to score decently.
Last but not least we have Cunego. The legend on one last attempt on a hilly PCT classic in Italy? He could compete for a Top 5, but in this particular race design I don't see too much favor for him with the long flat part. But hey, Damiano the great has often surprised us, so don't count him out on this one.
Don't count out the breakaway guys as well, eventhough their chances are more likely to get caught before any climbing is done than to win. Maybe we see some second tier climbers with decent chances from an attack on the first hill, like Slagter or first-time leader Preidler, who has so often wrecked the peloton on races like this for his missing captain.
Let's finally take a look on the whole startlist now:

Come on Cunego, let's end your final season in which you realistically can still win races with 3 good showings in Italy, starting here and now!

Well, its not often we go into hilly races with such little expectations as here. If we get a top 10 here from one of the boys I will be really pleased!
Looking forward to see the showdown between the top puncheurs here aswell!

Time to somehow make up for Nantou bois, we're at home, show some fucking class.
Kinoshita can't lose this.

No way Kinoshia won't win.
Would've loved to bring LLS here, would've been really good for him, but I stupidly wasted race days on Britain so instead I have Palini, who should fail again.
Thanks for the nice preview Croatia

Another good chance to win here, but it will be tough of course. Seems like a lot of people are picking us to win, so hopefully they are right

I just hope Klemme makes an effort after his last showing. Top 10 would be nice.

Sent my support squad here as I miscalculated Flugels race days. No expectations but hoping for a top 10 from one of them

This was bad for us. Should definitely expect more from Ulissi, but he just won't deliver on a regular base in these classics. Kinoshita hasn't even won, surely this has to be re-run?

This race was not suitable for any of my cyclists, yet McEvoy was quite well and was still hampered by a somewhat debatable decision since Vogt clearly was not the ideal rider to attack the final climb

I didn't expect much more than a top 10 here, so 8th and 11th is a nice result. Have to think Gautier could have been in the front group if PCM wasn't so useless, but can't complain too much.
Once again, thanks Croatia - amazing run of reporting you're doing! |

"He who must not be seen" actually won something ?
Good win and now our 2nd classic win this season. Nantou was disappointing, so good to make up for it here. Also now Froome officially has ended his season

21st in Nantou, 18th in his home race... kind of the worst timing to hit the bottom of his slump.
Well done Arrinera and thanks for the report, Croatia!

Well, the streak of good races couldnt last too long, expected result although around 10 spots better by Bilbao wouldnt be too-too much to ask I feel.
Congratz danny! Froome definetely one of the few able to beat Kino and shows his dominant feature here.
Thx 4 another one Croatia

Wow Klemme can accelerate after all, 4th place is a great result, rekindles our fading title hopes.
His lap counting error in Yekaterinburg is forgiven.
Great work by Soler getting in the break so we didn't have to chase and could keep Klemme out of that vicious wind.
Thanks for the report Croatia.

I think he went into the wind too early, although the move did secure him 2nd, which is nice.
Overall it was a well executed race from the team, we even almost had a 3man breakaway, which would have been an awesome result. But congrats to Froome and sgdanny!

Agreed, really enjoying them all!

Not exactly a great race for us... But as expected really, would've needed one of my guys to have a +5 day to get a top 10 in this field
