Tour of Almaty
A new race in the continental division, the Tour of Almaty takes the riders around the Kazakh city of Almaty over 187km, it’s a race made for the best puncheurs of the division.
Favourites | Hl | ACC | | Hl | ACC | Klemme | 80 | 66 | Rodriguez Galindo | 76 | 67 | Dowsett | 80 | 71 | Grivko | 75 | 70 | Barbin | 78 | 75 | Krizek | 75 | 76 | Diggle | 77 | 70 | Schurter | 75 | 71 | Hategeka | 77 | 66 | Michely | 75 | 75 | Pavarin | 76 | 76 | Favilli | 75 | 74 | Yates | 76 | 78 | Mancuso | 75 | 73 | Nzeke | 76 | 68 | Ilias | 75 | 68 | Taborre | 76 | 72 | Khripta | 75 | 69 | Zeits | 76 | 69 | Hugentobler | 75 | 76 | Passalacqua | 76 | 69 | Lloyd | 75 | 69 | Efimkin | 76 | 54 | Bru | 75 | 70 |
Klemme, Barbin and Dowsett are, as usual the favourites here, it’s hard to know whether the climb is long enough for the better mountain climbers, but if it does Klemme is the best of them anyway.
It's not just for those three though, Hategeka and Diggle are also amongst the best puncheurs as well, and should be riders to watch, so too Taborre, Rodriguez Galindo, Nzeke, Efimkin, Zeits, Yates, Passalacqua and Pavarin, meaning there are plenty of options to contest the race.
Startlist:
"What done is, is one." - Benji Naesen

I really need Dowsett to perform here and proved that he is worthy of being a favourite. There have been too many failures so far from him
Thanks for the preview

I'd be surprised if Hugentobler repeats his heroics from San Cristobal and Benelux but with the team I've sent I've kinda got to hope he either does or Schurter can step up instead as aside from Forcellini they don't really have any strong support from the riders that are still developing.
Only other rider that isn't is Scarponi and I'm hoping he will try and get in the break.
I'm looking forward to another Klemme/ Dowsett fight and seeing if anyone can upset them.

About time we had a Dowsett/Klemme showdown.

Podium, as always, is the aim but it finishes a bit flatter - not quite Diggle's thing. Just let's make it more Cuba less San Marino

11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Glad I avoided this one. Barbin to take the victory in his team's home race would be nice

Podium Ambition with Podium Ambition (boy this joke isn't going to get old). Hopefully the distance from the major climb to the finish, and the gentler finishing slope, can play into Simon's hands and allow him to use his finishing skill to full effect. A breakaway appearance wouldn't hurt at all or a surprise from one of my other guys to nick a few extra points.
But it's not really the race for us, just trying to steal a few points where we can.

I've given up on having high standards for my team at this moment, especially De Maar. Any result would be a good result. But I'm not expecting anything.

That moment when your team is on the startlist with top5 ambitions and not even mentioned in the preview...hopefully you wrote the preview before you raced the race honestly I can see Bole both failing or getting a podium, it depends a lot on the impact of the pretty small gradiant on the line...

that's what I'm talking about! exactly what Bole was here for and Drucker scoring out of nowhere from a frightening race to a fantastic race
looking at where we came from it could've been a win with better positioning though but I won't complain gw Manx, sounds like title ambitions

Wtf was that even. That was a literal field sprint. 6 screens in the whole report.
This was a hilly classic. Absolutely hilarious. This season has just been hilarious.
Edit: I hate to be overly critical because I know it is customary to thank the reporter, but this report wasn't very helpful.I know it was boring overall and so the 6 screens is kind of just a product of that, but with the only screens of the sprint front facing and no other angle, it was pretty impossible to judge where all but the first few riders were.

I mean I thought this race wouldn't be very selective, I just didn't imagine it wouldn't make any gaps. Glad the results at least mostly took into account the hill stats.

If you critizise this report why don't you report yourself? This was short and a fluent read, due to the racing action there is nothing missed by this...you can figure out the Top20 riders by the screenshot very well.
I like short reports and a faster pace more than extravagant report and a slow pace. So thanks trek for a decent report!

Looking at the profile I didn't expect it to be too selective, for a normal PCM DB it probably would have ended in a reduced sprint at CT level. With the stats being higher in the MG DB I knew it was going to have a reduced effect, I just didn't think it would be reduced by so much.
Now I've just got to hope that I remember this when I do planning for my riders next season so I avoid similar races as I don't think I've got anyone in my squad suited for races that play out like this one did.

I was more frustrated at myself for only thinking it may be a bigger group, but not thinking it would be that unselective

wasn't there a very very similar race at the end of last years CT season...I don't know which, but I'm pretty sure...
and that a guy like Bole or Yates could be favourite on this stage shouldn't be a surprise, at least I was in talks with jandal before the race and told him that Bole will beat his riders here (which are all better puncheurs but worse sprinters)
