Tour of Bulgaria
Welcome to the 2016 Tour of Bulgaria, which has a strange habit of changing the number of stages, changing to 5 after 6 in 2014 and 4 in 2015. It also makes another major change this year by dropping down to the CT, the route follows a similar pattern to last season. There are 3 mountain stages once again, as well as a team time trial. The main difference this season is the short flat stage thrown in to give the riders a rest between the mountains.
Favourites: | Mo | Hl | TTT Avg. | | Mo | Hl | TTT Avg. | Garby | 79 | 70 | 66 | Lundberg | 76 | 71 | 66 | Sella | 79 | 72 | 69 | Martinez | 76 | 72 | 66 | Antón | 78 | 73 | 66 | Lewis | 76 | 67 | 62 | Pomoshnikov | 78 | 74 | 65 | Nakane | 76 | 70 | 62 | Tvetcov | 77 | 75 | 68 | Pozzo | 76 | 70 | 62 | Battaglin | 77 | 72 | 62 | Khripta | 76 | 75 | 66 | Hacecký | 77 | 70 | 68 | De Marchi | 76 | 74 | 66 | Salinas | 77 | 73 | 67 | Ivanov | 76 | 74 | 66* | Hirschlein | 77 | 71 | 67 | Nieve | 76 | 73 | 68 |
*6 riders
Garby and Sella are the best climbers here and Sella has one of the best TTT squads here, while Garby has better climbing support, which could lead to an interesting dual between them. Antón and Pomoshnikov are also good climbers here who could trouble those two. Tvetcov is the best puncheur of the climbers and with a strong TTT squad behind him, so if stage 3 tends towards puncheurs he might have an advantage in the GC.
Salinas, Battaglin, Hirschlein, Hacecký are all other contenders here with varying TTT strength behind them, so certainly worth keeping an eye on.
Home rider hopes rest on Ivanov but he only has a 6 rider team to help him in the TTT. So it’ll be a challenge for Bulgaria to get a win at home this year.

So here it is - the flagship event for the team. All Bulgarian riders are entered plus both from Romania, Jan Stöhr and the team's pick for the overall win - Mikel Nieve. It will be tough, but until the final rider crosses the finish line on the last stage anything can happen.

The TT should rule out Baz and anyone else from GC - looking for breakaways and the sprint stage with Kreiger

Martinez coming from Southland in great shape, though the competition is stronger and we don't have the best of TTT squads, so I'd be satisfied with a top five.
Don't really know why I brought Manarelli but if he can survive the first three stages he's a main favorite for stage victory.

While I will look at the performance of my team, I may scout some of the riders in the race (can't tell names - it's against the rules) for potential 2017 signings. I know it's early in the season to have transfer rumours, but for the next season I'm looking to target big wins.

Nothing would please me more than Anton keeping his trend and finally grabbing a win here. He got a 3rd and a 2nd place in GC already so its time

Shout out to the random 6-rider team
Soupe should be a decent contender on the sprint stage. Ivanov probably better as a stage hunter, but he rode well in Southland and could go well on home soil. Interest in Stoenchev in the ITT. Robov to do his usual overperformance/breakaway on the other days.
For a small team it's not a half bad one. Especially for what will most likely be our last year with a Bulgarian sponsor connection.

So after this season there will be no Bulgarian sponsorship in Podium Ambition? Really sad to hear it, because it was great to have two teams with Bulgarian sponsorship.

Really hope Garby can do well here. Though we aren't good at TTT's, it does reduce the damage done to his GC compared to an ITT, so I'm hoping for the best.

Where do I signup? We're not racing for a couple of weeks and my squad could use a lift after what happened at Southland.

Good to see we have an OK TTT squad. Now to be not terrible...
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

As expected Nieve is going to be the team's top priority for GC. However I fear that the TTT will limit our chances
