Scandinavia Open Road Race
The division's puncheur elite is heading for Sweden, where the Scandinavia Open Road Race goes into it's already sixth edition. Formerly held as flat classic - with Luke Rowe (2010) and Tomas Vaitkus (2011) amongst the winners - the event became puncheur friendly after coming back from a one year break in 2013. Chris Froome (2013) and Cesare Di Maggio (2014) feature the honour roll, too.
A challenging loop with a hilltop finish. Not the steepest climb(s), the race used to see semi sized groups of the very best battling it out on the final few laps.
The Startlist
The Favorites Rider | HI | ACC | | Rider | HI | ACC | | Di Maggio | 82 | 75 | | Felline | 77 | 78 | | McCarthy | 81 | 74 | | Zingle | 77 | 76 | | Kelderman | 80 | 72 | | Hoogerland | 77 | 72 | | van der Hugenhaben | 80 | 66 | | Furdi | 77 | 72 | | Klemme | 80 | 66 | | Vakoc | 77 | 72 | | Ben Nasser | 79 | 77 | | Zeits | 77 | 71 | | Monfort | 79 | 75 | | McEvoy | 76 | 79 | | Betancourt | 79 | 74 | | Vastaranta | 76 | 78 | | Levarlet | 79 | 68 | | Simon | 76 | 74 | | Meyer | 78 | 77 | | Siskevicius | 76 | 73 | | Bellis | 78 | 75 | | Sinkewitz | 76 | 66 | | Juul-Jensen | 77 | 79 | | Ilias | 75 | 68 | |
The usual suspects and favorites: defending champion Di Maggio obviously as the top-favorite (again). McCarthy will ride this course for the first time, which may be a plus for the Italian.
Kelderman, van der Hugenhaben, Klemme next best puncheurs (on paper). Of course there's also Monfort (6th last year) and Ben Nasser (7th). Both are always capable of pulling a great result.
Also Bellis comes with good memories from here (4th last season) and guys like Betancourt, Meyer/Levarlet, Zingle or Vakoc will certainly aim for at least the Top-10.
Kinda special races for the Scandinavian teams of course: Juul-Jensen, Hoogerland and Vastaranta may come with a special boost of motivation!

Huge potential to lose more spots in the promotion ranking with Puma, Kenya and Gazelle with high scoring chances here.
Let`s just hope that former rider Bellis or Dutch friend Von der Hugenhaben takes this one. |

The climb not being so severe suits Bellis till the final lap when he fades in the sprint a top 5 would be great |

I'm sending my eigth best puncheurs, or something like that. Win goal for us. Though I don't see it happening, we should be able to score a good amount of points here.

Simon might be able to do something but only if the bunch stays together, if it does his sprint stat should get him into the top 15 or so |

Ben Nasser leading once again against the top puncheurs in the division. He's done decently so far but has been a bit hit and miss. Hopefully this race can be one of his good ones and he can get in the top-5. |

Top 5 goal here at home. That will be hard to achieve guess we will end at 6th just because
But hope Hoogerland, Hermans and Reimer will get some good results so we can collect a nice bit of points here |

Another hilly showdown. Thank god I'm not here.
Think Vontobel will continue their great recent form here and come out on top.
But with Monfort here it's difficult to say someone else than him!

Looking for multiple scorers from this visit to Sweden with Klemme leading from the front. Would be good to get one of Kolobnev, Valencia or Beltran in the break, but with Klemme considered an outside favourite, the rest of the race might resist this. Hope the hill steadily whittles down the field. Covering all bases, we have Gavazzi in case a big bunch approaches the finish.

Top 5 goal here, might not have been the best idea. Hopefully Zeits or Sinkewitz can get a top 5. At least I sent my best hill squad here.

Hope we can carry on momentum. Di Maggio had his best stage result when he secured the Tour Down Under victory at an uphill finish at Willunga Hill and was last years winner here. Seems hard to find a better place for him to start winning again.

I'm only here because it's Scandanavia, and that's okay. I really want to show off our colors in the break for the regional fans, and if De Maar would put in an attack somewhere along the line, I'd appreciate it.

Chances.
Seriously though, Wilco is the bright spot of our season so far, and we could really use another showing here. A generic route, a generic startlist, a generic goal: Top 5.

We already have reached our main goal of this race: XP.
I'm hoping that my team joins the break. Siskevicius is the leader but he needs a big group to finish together to have any chances for decent points.
That is the difference to the other teams at the top of the ranking: Evonik only has a strong leader in every second race while others have multiple possible leaders at every one.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

If Monfort adds another win to his streak I promise to keep him in the team until he retires.

Ohh that is very nice.
Some useful points for us, thanks Hugh, the only guy who doesn't underperform I guess ;P
Gutted to miss out on the win when it's so close, but definitely not unhappy with the result.

Sad we couldn't keep momentum going. Booked this race as a save scoring opportunity for Di Maggio. Now we always cringe when he is launching early... it seems to be a safe sign of weak legs.
He needs to start producing soon (Tour of Czechia at the latest) or we'll be in big trouble for the rest of the season.
Gratz to McCarthy and the guys at BoI, and thanks for the next great report, tsmoha!

Had a top 5 goal here, Got 19th. Zeits did nothing, but I guess that's what I get for putting goals in C1 races.

At least Kulppi tried to join the break. Siskevicius a bit disappointing but expectations were low.
I should have considered going for more c2 classics instead of those low scoring c1 ones.
Cool to see Tom Tom finally with a result. They surely needed it to escape the dirt for now.

Will take 4th, Ben Nasser did well to get into the front group going into the sprint. Hoped he could get in the podium with his strong sprint stat but 4th still brings decent points. Thanks once again for the report tsmoha.. |
