Welcome to the 14th edition of the Paris Tours classic. This race has been ever present on the MG calendar, so it's no surprise it's back again. Like last year it falls into the PTHC category, so we have a mix of PT and PCT present and some of the best sprinters are here. This is one of the longer sprint classics at almost 234 km. As a sprinter's classic it is predominantly flat, but has two key hills in the final 10 km of the race. Those can provide a launchpad for an attack or can simply ruin the positioning of many sprinters. Being near the front is crucial at that point. We have two former race winners on the startlist. Dylan Groenewegen won the race as a young rider back in 2015 and Morgan Kneisky won it in 2017.
With that said let's look at some of the other favourites:
| FLA | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Gaviria | 76 | 72 | 74 | 76 | 81 | 84 | Coquard | 73 | 66 | 71 | 74 | 84 | 83 | Degenkolb | 76 | 69 | 73 | 71 | 84 | 81 |
We have three top sprinters in Tier I, who are all strong all around riders for a race like this. Gaviria is strong on the flat, good in the hills and has an unmatched final kick. He has to be a strong favourite here. Coquard is worse in all the other areas, but we when it comes to pure speed, he is undoubtly the #1 sprinter in the world. And last but certainly not least is Degenkolb. With tremendous speed, good ability on the flat and solid on the short climbs, he's a safe pick to do well.
| FLA | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Grosu | 73 | 73 | 74 | 70 | 83 | 80 | Groenewegen | 73 | 67 | 74 | 71 | 82 | 81 | Swift | 73 | 67 | 72 | 69 | 83 | 81 | Kemboi | 78 | 63 | 74 | 77 | 80 | 80 | Van der Lijke | 73 | 76 | 73 | 71 | 82 | 79 |
Tier II is not anything to snease at also. In fact don't be surprised if any or all of these lads find their was onto the podium. Grosu just missed out on being a tier above and it's easy to see why when you look at his stats. Groenewegen is pretty similar to Romanian, apart from his worse hill stat. Swift's stamina and resistance are bit below the latter, but his top speed is still among the best in the business. Kemboi has a big engine on him to go with his speed, but he'll need to negotiate the late hills with his worse ability there. Conversely Van der Lijke should have no problems dealing with the uphill terrain and needs position himself well to offset his lack of acceleration.
| FLA | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Guardini | 72 | 64 | 74 | 69 | 80 | 82 | Samolenkov | 74 | 64 | 75 | 71 | 81 | 79 | Itami | 75 | 61 | 71 | 67 | 80 | 82 | Enger | 73 | 69 | 71 | 73 | 81 | 78 | Lo Cicero | 72 | 64 | 71 | 63 | 84 | 78 | Kristoff | 74 | 67 | 73 | 69 | 82 | 77 | Haller | 72 | 65 | 72 | 71 | 80 | 79 | Avelino | 70 | 63 | 69 | 65 | 82 | 77 |
Tier III is a step below, but still very good. Guardini can mix it with the best in terms of speed and has the stamina for a long race. Samolenkov is form from his win in Thailand and could surprise again. Itami is another very fast rider, but he might struggle if the final kms are too intense. Enger is a solid climber, but lacks a bit off explosion. As do Lo Cicero and Kristoff. The former has a real issue with his resistance stat. Haller is just solid all round, while Avelino is in a similar conundrum like Lo Cicero.
| FLA | HIL | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | Andersen | 81 | 65 | 77 | 78 | 76 | 74 | Pedersen | 77 | 69 | 78 | 80 | 78 | 77 | Wisniowski | 80 | 71 | 75 | 76 | 73 | 76 | Holloway | 77 | 68 | 76 | 76 | 79 | 81 | Houle | 78 | 75 | 76 | 71 | 79 | 78 | Gerts | 77 | 78 | 76 | 80 | 72 | 70 | Debesay | 75 | 74 | 75 | 79 | 69 | 78 | Bellis | 75 | 78 | 80 | 71 | 74 | 75 | Summerhill | 78 | 73 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 73 | Würtz | 77 | 71 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 70 |
Late attacks are also possible and the specialists for this should be the Grieg-Maersk riders. Andersen, Pedersen and Wisniowski all have massive engines and the kick to make a decisive attack. Holloway is also an interesting rider, he's more of a sprinter, but if he's not working for Van der Lijke, then he could be perfect for a very late attack. Houle is another that can sprint, but he can also climb and has a huge engine. Gerts is also incredibly strong and has the classics pedigree to go for an attack in the final stages of the race.

Sad that we do not attend, could've been a great Per-race. Cool preview!

Groenewegen did win here before iirc. It might have been unmaxed even, not sure anymore.
After 2 sprinter classics without a single point in a row, he really should be up for some stronger performance again. Anything else is unacceptable in our situation.
A top5 absolutely needed. |

Gaviria rated so high probably means disaster, which would be good for his wage. But it's Paris-Tours, a race I rate very highly. So yeah, we'll see!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

We've been good in the flat classics this year, hopefully it continues here. Those hills in the final could be a perfect spot to get a gap, so hoping to see our riders attack it. Looking forward to it, thanks for the preview!

Have to hope for the best but I’m not expecting anything here from Avelino given the length of the course which will really test his physicals. Hopefully a breakaway to make it interesting!

Kemboi's final race of the season, which after a fantastic start has petered out a bit recently. Hopefully he can sign off in style here, although tactically we do have other options in van den Berg and Kamberaj to mix things up a bit. |

Houle and Debesay can both perform here if they go for the attack and I guess all I can do is hope they do Would be very cool to get a result in a prestigious race like this one
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Another flat classic for us to suck balls.
It's definitely going to be interesting to see whose sprinter is going to surprise the top favourites.
Thanks for the preview red!

Yes! Perfectly timed by Kragh. Thought we did a good job in the finale. Near the front and on the attack. Going into the last 3k I was hoping for a top 10 given the mass sprint, so superhappy to take the win!
Decent depth also. It's been a huge month or so for us after the TdF. The boys have really stepped up and great to see them rewarded with a win today.

Anonymous race but decent result from Avelino to make the Top 10. Still need some very big results to have a hope of survival.

Thanks for the report and congrats to a worthy Paris Tours winner.
Must admit right now I can't enjoy it a lot. Relegating is one thing but just losing due to positioning is annoying. Not sure why but my leaders lose contact on most stages for no reason. Third sprinter classic in a row where this happens now and it has been an issue all season long now. |

Good to see the team working like that for Grosu. Them failing, bot so good, but that was a great attack, congrats on the win, tastasol.
That sprint behind SKA was really close so happy to see Grosu take third as it could have gone either way.

Cool to see our stagiare Joel Ponce in the breakaway, he couldn't do much during the SAA Tour d'Afrique, but was part of the team when Samolenkov won the Nakhon Ratchasima Trophy. I already like this fellow!

It always suck to win the sprint for 2nd with the pre-race favorite, but 2nd is a good result overall and I can fully accept to see Kragh finally catching a win after having been very aggressive in many races.
Coquard slowly but steadily moving towards the anticipated pre-season points, which would ensure that my key leader in all terrains have managed to do so - or exceeding that.
