As is already known, the 2019 world championships will take place on a cobbled mountain route.
Five different locations were carefully selected by the MGUCI for managers to vote on:
Sofia, 191.3 km:
Gotthardpass, 255.3 km:
Guarda - Penhas da Suade, 178.4 km:
Mount Erciyes, 229.8 km:
Isère Valley, 218.6 km:
The TT and TTT courses will usually match the road WC course.
Deadline: 21st June, Noon, Daily Time.
Thank you to Tamijo, Trekbmc, Croatia and Jandal for the help with the profiles.

Got to pick Sofia, just to get Bulgaria an auto-invite to the main race for the 72MO 75CB legend Martin Grashev who has proven to thrive on such challenging courses.

Went for Sofia purely because I need the reminder of walking up and down Vitosha to keep me happy with no prospect of a holiday in the foreseeable future |

Lol Sofia, won't be half the fun it looks right now. Something like Gotthardpass would be an actual proper race.

Can we get some in depth information of the star ratings of the cobbled sectors?
Is Sofia all 5*, Gotthard all 4*, Turkey/Isère all 3* and Portugal all 1*?

A mountain wc should also have no cobbles but here we are.

And if we are to be completely insane with this WC, we might as well go completely insane with it!
Otherwise, lets just have an ordinary mountain WC

The problem in this vote seems to be that all the alternatives except Sofia are light on cobbles, and then there's Sofia, which is something completely different. That means Sofia gets all the votes from those wanting a "crazy" race, while those that wants a "normal"ish race have four alternatives, meaning the votes will be spread.
Must admit I'm not too keen on the Sofia race, as I fear that one will make it a fight between very, very few riders for the title from relatively early on, I suspect. |

Well, given that there's not a single rider from our focus regions (SWI, ITA) having decent mountain and cobbles skills, I'll go for as few cobbles as possible. For a classic I'd love to see Sofia, but as ember mentioned, for a WC there should be more than just a handful riders battling for the win.

Gotthardpass !!
In general i'd say +200 an completely unreal race like Sofia should not be here at all.

I have opted for the french race - basically because I find it to be the most open race with multiple potential world champions.
I believe Sofia and Guarda are too skewed towards one or the other. No reason to go full retard in either direction imo. In Turkey I'm not confident that the cobbles will actually matter, as they come in some fairly easy passages, after the climbers have done their havok.
So it's either Switzerland or France for me, and tbh. I can see only 3 potential world Champions in Switzerland: Pluchkin, Herklotz or Spilak. MAYBY Lecuisinier - so that one should probably favor my team the best, but I don't think WC routes should be this "easy to win" for a handful of riders.
I see the downhill finish as a potential distress and the cobbles come right before the climb, so it should create some differences - also it comes after a long flat ride, so it should keep the race open for a very long time.

I wish there was more of a middle ground here. I don't feel the cobbles will really mean anything on the other four routes, but Sofia is insane. At the same time, I'm tempted to vote for it since I have no climbers who could win, but do have cobbles riders.

All of of the above is correct, except Gotthardpass, which is also 3.

I'm going with Sofia obviously as my wish is for the most cobbles possible, all options are viable and there's reasons to vote as there's different goals, I find it exciting for there to be such a healthy debate

Thank you!
A friendly reminder to everyone that 5* cobbles don't seem allow for low effort riding in a bunch, the heart rates automatically go into the yellow or higher.
So I'd expect the race to break apart immediately and barely recover again.

I have no stake in this and maybe it's too late in the voting process anyway, but couldn't it be useful to have a test run and see just how much of a carnage Sofia will actually be? You could use a startlist with minor riders to avoid spoilers for the real race and/or just report the first three climbs or so. That is, unless everyone voting for Sofia actually does want the most extreme scenario anyway I understand this is probably not the way it's normally done, but in this unusual example, maybe it helps to come to an informed decision.
