A lot of PT racing in February. Most popular the triple clash of 2 hill and 1 mountain event with Tirreno - Adriatico, Paris - Nice and the Classique du Grand-Duche.
Then obviously the big monument Milano San Remo and more classics in the Copenhagen Malmo TTT and two PTHC classics Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Pro Hallstatt.
So it was a bit of all terrains with puncheurs likely the biggest scoring of the month.
The first event was the Copenhagen - Malmö TTT. Gazelle with a big win here over UBS, Bennelong and Tinkoff and this way having a nice early scoring.
Then two PTHC classics. The only cobbles of the month and a small sign of what to expect in the upcoming weeks was given in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad. Moser with another big Bewley performance and by the look of it, he will once again dominate the paves. RBC around Summerhill came closest with Tinkoff (Senechal) and Aker following with 100+ points performances. Though must be said, that some cobbled teams not have started there and might change the full picture in PT events.
The Pro Hallstatt Classic as new addition for a mix of climbers and puncheurs saw exactly this. The allrounders were up there to go for the win. Spilak as one of the very best with a great result for PT promoted team Isostar. Best scoring team though yet again Moser! Sagan as runner-up had a very good day with climber Barguil also showing great form early on making it an early stage dominant team.
Gazelle also with very good scoring just like Aker, whoch shows their decent run at the moment.
Then the triple clash! Tirreno - Adriatico this year with a puncheur route. And whenever it`s hilly, no way past Ponzi! He was incredibly consistent and leads a 500+ race for Hugo Boss, which is more than some teams had all month! Air France around Boasson Hagen, Grieg with Bakelants, T-Mobile, Bennelong, Aegon and Gazelle with more 200+ performances.
Classique du Grand-Duche was the second part of the puncheur clash. And it saw a pretty weak startlist in comparison to the stage race. Puma with Demare, who developed into a puncheur alongside being a top sprinter was a big classic ahead of Evonik`s Skujins as best puncheur here. Also Isostar, Festina and Porto got a great event while some teams surely underperformed a lot here such as Vesuvio around former winner Gastauer.
Paris - Nice then the mountain race and Taaramae showed his skills for T-Mobile similar to Ponzi in TA. Vesuvio with Schleck still going strong in the first year post his prime and also Porto, Berg and Desigual had great scoring.
Last but not least Milano San Remo. The race is a mix of sprinter and puncheur race but in recent years the combination riders were taking over and not different in 2018. Van der Lijke might have been a small surprise at first but he is also one of those top5 punchy sprinters this year and got a huge result for Vesuvio followed by yet again high scoring Moser with Bewley. Puma (Demare) was hoping for more than 3rd but still scored great with eBuddy and Desigual following.
Seeing the whole month Moser was the best scoring team with Bewley, Sagan, Barguil and co. all showing great form.
Though it was just a bit ahead of T-Mobile with the combination of Taaramae and Van Garderen which actually makes them the best scoring team in the triple by far.
EA Vesuvio also doing nicely despite their awful home event.
At the bottom of the February performances Volvo, RBC and Festina. Consistent scoring but not a single top result with big points.
| | Team | TTT | OHN | TA | PN | CGD | MSR | Hal | Triple | February | | 1 | | Moser - Sygic | 5 | 210 | 103 | 177 | 41 | 260 | 257 | 321 | 1053 | | 2 | | T-Mobile | 35 | 0 | 309 | 594 | 47 | 40 | 13 | 950 | 1038 | | 3 | | EA Vesuvio | 10 | 0 | 96 | 408 | 59 | 369 | 10 | 563 | 952 | | 4 | | Team Puma - SAP | 55 | 0 | 156 | 98 | 337 | 239 | 0 | 591 | 885 | | 5 | | Isostar Slovenija | 10 | 0 | 141 | 169 | 205 | 150 | 187 | 515 | 862 | | 6 | | Gazelle | 250 | 0 | 209 | 143 | 79 | 40 | 141 | 431 | 862 | | 7 | | Hugo Boss | 25 | 0 | 510 | 0 | 73 | 114 | 0 | 583 | 722 | | 8 | | Aker - MOT | 15 | 103 | 167 | 199 | 48 | 106 | 81 | 414 | 719 | | 9 | | Porto - Prio | 65 | 0 | 93 | 370 | 138 | 45 | 0 | 601 | 711 | | 10 | | Desigual | 75 | 26 | 86 | 316 | 41 | 164 | 2 | 443 | 710 | | 11 | | Team UBS | 175 | 14 | 111 | 252 | 52 | 49 | 44 | 415 | 697 | | 12 | | Bennelong - Mitchelton | 140 | 0 | 242 | 150 | 35 | 55 | 27 | 427 | 649 | | 13 | | Grieg - Eftel | 20 | 0 | 347 | 142 | 35 | 47 | 44 | 524 | 635 | | 14 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 30 | 0 | 219 | 208 | 30 | 86 | 38 | 457 | 611 | | 15 | | Berg Cycles | 45 | 0 | 94 | 356 | 40 | 76 | 0 | 490 | 611 | | 16 | | Air France - KLM | 5 | 11 | 361 | 61 | 35 | 105 | 0 | 457 | 578 | | 17 | | Evonik - ELKO | 0 | 0 | 196 | 40 | 207 | 126 | 4 | 443 | 573 | | 18 | | eBuddy | 40 | 7 | 168 | 91 | 44 | 214 | 0 | 303 | 564 | | 19 | | Team Tinkoff | 125 | 122 | 101 | 48 | 76 | 55 | 0 | 225 | 527 | | 20 | | Festina - Dexia | 0 | 0 | 112 | 78 | 174 | 116 | 0 | 364 | 480 | | 21 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 50 | 133 | 68 | 50 | 35 | 143 | 0 | 153 | 479 | | 22 | | Volvo acc. by Spotify | 90 | 50 | 57 | 145 | 38 | 46 | 0 | 240 | 426 |
The full post February ranking then sees Moser as top of the division easily. T-Mobile and EA Vesuvio following with Hugo Boss and Air France also up there in the top5. Puma not that far behind and with less race days and yet to let Herklotz ride! Isostar with a first Spilak appearance and Evonik before the cobbles also well placed.
At the bottom RBC waiting for Phinney, Volvo, Tinkoff and Berg need bigger performances soon to not lose contact early on.
Festina was expecting a struggling season but has still a lot of races with Lecuisinier while Bennelong also again down there just like Desigual. Long seasons for them. And while eBuddy surely improves with Dombrowski, also Aegon, Porto or even UBS/Gazelle not having a big gap yet to the early relegation zone. Quite a lot of teams this season to potentially go down a division.

Individually the top riders of each terrain already have shown up. Bewley leading closely ahead of Ponzi, Taaramae or Boasson Hagen. Those are also favourites for the final ranking with Bakelants, Van Stayen, Demare following.
Spilak in 11th also a rider to watch out for the individual crown with Schleck/Gesink not far behind neither.

Less than 130 points above the relegation line is less than I was hoping.
An awful Qatar and not the most ideal Paris Nice from me makes it less points than expected. Surely need 1-2 big races soon as consistent middle scoring moves you down the ladder quickly with other teams having one of those 400-500 point races.
In especially as Olivier/Dekker won`t have the big GT results that Phinney, Lecuisinier, Morton, Tenorio, Dombrowski likely have. |

Slightly worrying. Had hoped Martin would do better and that we would be around 1000 points at this point. The month went pretty much as expected, just Martin being a bit weaker than I thought in both P-N and Halstatt. Good to see Bakelants in that top 10, certainly a position we hope he can keep all season. Looking forward to seeing how Wisniowski goes om the cobbles now.

Isostar are just too good, they're going to promote again... Some unexpected positionings there, but less so is the quick lead that Moser have picked up. A long way from home, but a nice start to the title ambitions!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

We are in the relegation battle, which was always expected after the Qatar race didn't give quite the amount of points needed combined with february likely being the worst month during the entire season for us.
Having not yet ridden a PTHC race projects our points above the line, which is somewhat reassuring at this time. We need Coquard to show a very high level in the upcoming race however in order to get out of the permanent battle.

We are where we should be and it should be difficult to get out of there.
Apart from Gesink who in just 8 days of racing has almost half the points of the team, nobody else seems to be able to score points regularly. Despite all this until it was a decent month and one positive aspect is that we are one of the teams with less days of racing used.

One point Although it's 4rd vs 15rd I think.
Kelderman not off to a start that looks more like 2016 than like 2017, Arndt good as always and Nerz bad as always, those are the main points to take away from this.
Grand-Duché certainly saved our pprd for now, projected 5th is really all we can ask for with Moser and T-Mobile impossible to catch, Vesuvio being very lucky and Hugo Boss likely being very consistent from now on.
Not having ridden any HC races yet gives us some much-needed leeway going into the cobbles.

Quite happy with how this is going, even though I hope we wont let Moser get too far ahead before TDF. With the cobble races coming up I think they will get an unbeatable lead
Not really surprising to see RBC at the bottom, should be a nice climb when Phinney and Summerhill really start their season.

Not a good month for Evonik with some uninspiring and slightly disappointing performances. Luckily ive got the chance to rebound immediately with potentially the best month of the season ahead of me. Strada Appia, E3 and Ronde for Greg, Praha and nederlands for MVS and Pais Vasco and Strade for Skujins. Good leader for all races and huge expectations.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

ouch, not looking good.
Obviously not a good month for us but as said before we need some points on the cobbles that are coming up. |

Thank you for the update, roturn!
Judging by the season so far, it seems like a top 10 is the most we can get from it, eventhough it's obviously very early. But we definitely feel that we lack the top, top leaders, especially when the early tendency is that we aren't rewarded when having more than one leader in any race.
Hopefully it can turn around, as we really need to score bigger in our races to not be part of the battle to avoid relegation, especially with Guldhammer being in what seems to be the most difficult GT this season, looking at the depth of GC contenders there.
Moser is just crazy good this season, even scoring the same and more this month compared to T-Mobile, even when the latter has Taaramäe and TvG involved in 15 of 21 race days. And congratulations to both, the others of us can only dream of 1000 points in such a month |

Good month for us. Grand Duche and P-N were instrumental in that regard, while we were fortunate enough to have decent scores elsewhere. Cobbles are on the horizon, so like cio said, it's nice to still have all our PTHC events to race.
Differences are still very slim at the bottom though, so I wouldn't drop too many conclusions atm. There's already a nice margin at the top though, which should feel really comfortable for Moser. There are still 3 other teams quite close and in the mix, which should make for an interesting title battle!

Satisfying first two months for us.
Can't see who could challenge Moser at this point, perhaps only T-Mobile or Puma. But we're on track for a top 5 finish and that is the aim this year.
Big questionmark is how Kristoff will fare in the cobbled classics now. Not too great of expectations there atleast.

Yes, this will be a tough year. If Morton continues to do nothing, we are doomed anyway.

Glad to have left the bottom spot. Instantly jumping to 10th is definitely a welcome surprise.

To be honest, I think the February ranking is more representative of where you can expect Air France to be at the end of the season. I'll enjoy the moment in the top-5 as long as it lasts, though, no doubt about that |

Considering T-Mobile are this close to us at this point, they surely have to be the biggest favourites right now. Start of the season went really nicely for us apart of Tirreno. We really can't have any races like that if we want to challenge for the 1st place in the end of the year. A year ago we had a similar type of a lead on Festina and in the end we were way behind them. Puma also look really dangerous.
Thanks for the update!

Back then you didn't have two GC riders performing at top level though, just one :-)
I do agree, however that T-Mobile can't be ruled out of it yet, but there's only so much a rider like Taaramäe can do, and Sagan vs. Tejay is very close.
My guess is that Bewley will score similar to Taaramäe and Barguil + Hirt significantly better than T-Mobiles 3rd tiers.
