Next up on the C2 calendar are two classics for the sprinters. The Great Ocean Road Classic (to be reported by jph) is the opening C2HC race of the season, bringing all CT teams together for the first time. Many of the same teams and riders then take the long flight to Europe for the Barcelona Classic, for their first action in February.
Neither race is immune from breakaway triumphs - indeed, last year's Great Ocean Road Classic did go this way - but sprinters will start as favourites in both cases. The length in Australia will bring rider stamina into play, while the climb on the Barcelona circuit could weaken the sprinters who don't enjoy the hills.
18 of the division's 22 79+ sprinters will be in attendance for at least one race, and here is how they compare:
| | | | FL | HL | ST | RS | SP | AC | Thorsen | Daniel | Ocean | Barcelona | 61 | 54 | 63 | 56 | 82 | 85 | Haller | Marco | Ocean | Barcelona | 72 | 65 | 72 | 71 | 80 | 79 | Granjel Cabrera | Raúl | Ocean | Barcelona | 75 | 69 | 75 | 71 | 80 | 77 | Castañeda | Jaime Alberto | Ocean | Barcelona | 71 | 59 | 71 | 67 | 80 | 79 | Rowe | Matt | Ocean | Barcelona | 72 | 62 | 80 | 58 | 80 | 70 | Meyer | Cameron | Ocean | | 72 | 61 | 70 | 65 | 80 | 76 | Salleh | Mohamed Harrif | | Barcelona | 70 | 59 | 73 | 65 | 80 | 80 | Havik | Yoeri | Ocean | Barcelona | 73 | 64 | 74 | 68 | 79 | 76 | Bennett | Sam | Ocean | Barcelona | 71 | 63 | 74 | 68 | 79 | 79 | Krieger | Alexander | Ocean | Barcelona | 71 | 62 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 79 | Clarke | Simon | Ocean | Barcelona | 72 | 62 | 72 | 71 | 79 | 78 | Vingerling | Michael | Ocean | | 71 | 61 | 72 | 66 | 79 | 79 | Haussler | Heinrich | | Barcelona | 72 | 69 | 71 | 71 | 79 | 75 | Von Hoff | Steele | Ocean | | 71 | 66 | 71 | 74 | 79 | 77 | Croket | Lars | Ocean | | 74 | 65 | 74 | 65 | 79 | 71 | Awang | Azizulhasni | | Barcelona | 64 | 52 | 67 | 62 | 79 | 83 | Hochmann | JÃri | | Barcelona | 70 | 54 | 66 | 61 | 79 | 80 | Vanderaerden | Michael | Ocean | | 72 | 61 | 71 | 65 | 79 | 75 |
Salleh and Hochmann both opened their 2017 victory accounts up with a stage win at the Vuelta al Tachira, but these next two classics will surely provide us with a greater idea of the CT sprinting hierarchy for the rest of the season. With the amount of good sprinters here though, expect both finishes to be competitive.
And others, with perhaps more of an outside chance, include:
| | | | FL | HL | ST | RS | SP | Manan | Anuar | Ocean | Barcelona | 68 | 60 | 71 | 67 | 78 | Bogdanovics | Maris | Ocean | Barcelona | 73 | 62 | 74 | 69 | 78 | Corti | Marco | Ocean | Barcelona | 72 | 63 | 74 | 64 | 78 | Harrison | Sam | Ocean | Barcelona | 72 | 67 | 73 | 70 | 78 | Farrar | Tyler | Ocean | | 71 | 61 | 74 | 67 | 78 | Andriato | Rafael | | Barcelona | 71 | 64 | 72 | 68 | 78 | Jones | Brenton | Ocean | | 72 | 60 | 66 | 65 | 78 | Brus | Marco | | Barcelona | 71 | 64 | 74 | 69 | 78 | Kreder | Michel | | Barcelona | 73 | 70 | 72 | 68 | 78 | Park | Sung Baek | Ocean | | 70 | 63 | 71 | 68 | 78 | Richeze | Maximiliano | Ocean | Barcelona | 70 | 63 | 68 | 64 | 77 | Vasylyuk | Andriy | Ocean | Barcelona | 72 | 64 | 70 | 67 | 77 | Selig | Rüdiger | | Barcelona | 70 | 65 | 72 | 68 | 77 | Van Poppel | Boy | Ocean | Barcelona | 75 | 67 | 73 | 71 | 76 | Chavanne | Gabriel | Ocean | Barcelona | 75 | 64 | 71 | 76 | 76 | Bole | Grega | | Barcelona | 71 | 74 | 74 | 67 | 76 | Horton | Tobyn | Ocean | | 76 | 67 | 70 | 65 | 76 | Vanderaerden | Michael | Ocean | | 72 | 61 | 71 | 65 | 75 |
With also many strong riders on the flat, and fighters too, who may look to ruin the sprinter's days.

Someone to score a point please!
Hopefully in Great Ocean there's a lot of wind like last year and Kneisky can be in the right side of echelons. If not we can only hope that Marcato or Stacchiotti have a good day to be in top20
And in Barcelona more of the same. It's supoused to be one of our two "home" races, but it's likely we'll walk again of it without any points.
Also, wtf is Eastman doing in Great Ocean??

Kip & Canelon worked together very well in Tachira, now for Croket & Meyer to do the same in Australia. Hope the home bonus can give Meyer a top 5, though with the Tachira result a top 10 would please me too. Expecting Granjel Cabrera to win them both (yeah, bold prediction, I know.)
Not participating in Barcelona, but I'll obviously be following it closely. |

A double discussion thread, that's a new one! Should be a good couple of races. Given that Granjel Cabrera have the best hill stat amongst the big sprinters, I'll have him as the big favourite in Barcelona. More open in Ocean Road I reckon, hopefully some of the Aussies can do a good race.

Feeling pretty tense and nervous ahead of these two races; the first experience of having sprinters who sit in the top half of the preview, rather than having a weak 'lone wolf' option as was the case in previous seasons. Have different sprint options, and for these two races have left out Saulo Lay, and hope that we will get the opportunity of a sprint 'train' in one of the two events to see how Vasylyuk - Harrison - Castenada works as a unit. Also have some flatlanders to help cope with positioning/echelons in Australia, and potentially chasing break in Spain. The other question in Spain will be will JAC cope with the speed bumps? If not Harrison hopefully stays upfront and tries for the sprint rather than staying back with his 'leader'.
Great Ocean can be quite a mixed-up race as history shows, however I think Haller is favourite here, and Granjel Cabrera for Barcelona, although there are plenty of guys pretty close to their standard nipping at their heels. Adding these two race outcomes to what happened in the other January races should provide a clearer picture of how various teams likely to fare this season.
Good luck gents, and thanks to the reporters!

Our first goal race of the season comes with Great Ocean. Krieger is not in the top 5 sprinters there, so a bit worrying and the goal might be missed. Last year's runner up Timmer (for Isostar) rides for us this time around. We have quite a few flat specialists who can maybe take advantage of echelons. Hoping for them to work at the front to keep the pace high. Can aid our chances quite a bit.
In Barcelona, our full strength sprint train will be on show for the first time. Kreder might be the one to lead our charge given the hills littered on the profile. His hill and acc stats could prove vital!

A double dosis of 0 point racing coming up for us! Hopefully we can sneak some breakaways and Farrar bags a top 10!

Not the best of chances for us, but Richeze has good memories here. Hoping for a breakaway win, though, that'll be our best shot |

Hopefully we can remedy the disaster that was Tachira (56 points, I know I'm being snobbish) with a big haul in both races. We've certainly got the talent for a few top 10 finishers, let's see if the game allows our train to form the right way!

No Barcelona for us but we will keep an eye out.
At the Great Ocean Race, the expectations aren't high obviously. A agressive, windy and confusing race should benefit us likely, anyway Nazir Jaser will set out as leader, he won't have a sprint train but if he's good with positioning he might get a few points. Top 25 (aka 1 point) is our goal so-to-say, just trying not to get out of Australia empty-handed.

could you also post an overview of the flat specialists and respective acceleration stats, as CEGORR has proven to be decicively influenced by the wind? Granjel the clear favourite, rooting for Philips though with Timmer and Drucker on the team. If I had to bet I take van Emden for CEGORR and Granjel Cabrera for Barcelona. I'm missing Per on the startlist though

Clarke is here for both, he came 3rd in Barcelona last year but not expecting the same. Hoping for something decent or we'll be in a lot of trouble after Tachira scoring under 4 PpRD. Also maybe some kind of breakaway result in one of the two, have Novardianto for early and maybe Vandenbergh for late attacks in both.

Well um... pretty sure it was due to scheduling conflicts, and needing a 6th rider just to show up...
It didn't keep me from sending him to everything he needed to be at. My racedays for this team was a challenge... I have 1 rider who was left with 1 free race day, and then my stagier ended up with 1 free raceday.
Which is even more sad based on the fact I've yet to send 8 riders to any race so far ... (7 to San Cristobal, 7 to Tachira, and 6 here).

These races are for Rowe to disappoint me greatly just to lower my expectations for him, only for him to deliver a win later in the season
Seriously hope that the wind stays away for these races as I doubt my team will be to the fore if theres echelons because of Rowe I want a good start to the year as I'm still yet to start compared to most of the others, as I do miss some good reports involving my team
Good luck for now!
