Seskin Classic
We're heading for Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland, where the second edition of this hilly classic will be held soon. The race has been upgraded from C2 to C1 status this year, now attracting a startlist packed with many of the division's best puncheurs.
Jonathan Tiernan-Locke won the first edition last year, where a group of five riders fought for line honours. The race is held on a circuit through and around the town, featuring a flat finish and a short but challenging climb in every of those 13 laps.
The Startlist
The Favorites Rider | HI | SPR | Rider | HI | SPR | Di Maggio | 82 | 63 | Pozzato | 77 | 76 | McCarthy | 81 | 63 | Felline | 77 | 74 | Kelderman | 80 | 67 | Zardini | 77 | 72 | Dowsett | 80 | 66 | Vakoc | 77 | 70 | Ben Nasser | 79 | 70 | Furdi | 77 | 69 | Betancourt | 79 | 67 | Zingle | 77 | 66 | Roy | 79 | 64 | Teklit | 77 | 64 | Monfort | 79 | 64 | Zeits | 77 | 64 | Levarlet | 79 | 63 | Vogt | 77 | 61 | Bellis | 78 | 74 | Chaves | 77 | 57 | Meyer | 78 | 72 | McEvoy | 76 | 75 | Boily | 78 | 68 | Siskevicius | 76 | 70 | Mehr-Wenige | 78 | 66 | Favilli | 75 | 76 |
Di Maggio, McCarthy, Kelderman and Dowsett - all lining up with their teams here. That alone would make for a great startlist. Di Maggio obviously as the top-favorite, even though Kelderman and Dowsett are the stronger finishers - which Kelderman impressively proved at the Strade Bianchi.
Ben Nasser definitely as someone, who proved a good finishing touch, with also Betancourt, Roy, Monfort and Levarlet amongst the best puncheurs here. Of course riders like Bellis and Meyer, as well as Pozzato, Felline or Zardini will be real threats thanks to their sprint abilities.
Same goes for less strong puncheurs like McEvoy and Favilli, who will all hope for a less selective race here. A few more possible contenders, so definitely a pretty open race, it seems.

Second race of the season for Monfort. His first was a huge success, so hope he didn't party too hard.
Also curious to see what Pozzato will do. Hope he gets a free role and joins the attack of the favorites, because I think he can develop some crazy speed in that downhill finish.
tsmoha, the pace at which you drive this season forward is phenomenal. Thanks for the hard work!

Ben Nasser here for only his second race of the season. Bianche was a good performance, ideally he could get another podium here with his sprint but I'll take a top 5 considering our poor month. |

I'm here with a punchy sprinter, a sprinty puncheur and six lads looking for XP.
A top 15 would be great but im not really confident.
I hope that Bekmanis joins the break. Every other Form of TV time or points would of course be accepted as well.
Bellis for the win.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

One of our numerous adventures at C1 level and I look forward to see how Favilli may hold up on that level. Langeveld has done very well so far but cobblez classics and hill classics can turn out much different. Canola as a poorer version of Favilli won't do much but maybe he's there when it counts for Elia.
Tulik, Belmokthar, Pfingsten or Langeveld can all hold their own if they get into the BOTD, which would be nice.

Hopefully Zardini can do something here, as always top 15 is the goal, but if it does end in a reduced bunch sprint then I think he's got a chance of a top 10.
Hopefully we can get someone in the break this time as we've got a few decent candidates, I'd love for it to be Schurter as I think he'd be the most likely to hold on but I'm guessing he'd probably be too strong, unless he goes mid race.

I can't believe everyone keeps getting the name wrong, I thought by now it was fairly well known that it's called the Sean Kelly Classic?!
Jokes aside, massive race for us. We were dreadful here last year, I really don't want to have another crap home race. It'd be awesome if McCarthy could make it 3/3 goals, but realistically, I'd be fine with a podium too.

A top 3 would be very appreciated here after the complete failure in France.
The downhill finish might make this a lottery though if a bigger group arrives, so I hope Wilco is strong enough to not have to deal with such a situation.

Race is a top 5 goal, should bea podium and could easily be a win as the profile suits Di Maggio. There is a chance for a tough fight with the home team contender.

Will it be this day? Let us see ... |

Zingle is just aiming to score some points here. A top 10 would be nice but I'm not expecting anything.

Oh man, what a letdown. I had hoped for some outsider points of the guys but that was a complete beatdown. No breakaway attempt, no mention, nothing.
However the team was quite prominently featured in the run from 40 to 55th, so I like to think that some of them should have been far more able to hang onto the peloton (Favilli ffs!) and with some tweaks in the stats we could do well here one day.
Well, as for right now any hope for points were an illusion here.
Belmokthar finished ahead of Rider's Roy though, so maybe we can build on that.
Gratz to the winner, amazing season for Gazelle! And thank you to tsmoha for this great pace and reports!

Gazelle though.. Monfort again with a season of consistent success, it seems. Congrats, DD. Di Maggio way too passive, must hurt to see those other top favorites doing much better. Well, except of Dowsett, of course

Yep, it hurts... even because it was one of our easier goals to achieve.
Almost four weeks off racing now, means back to drawing board and training camp.
Gratz to Gazelle and thanks for another fine read, tsmoha!

Fantastic result for Eritrea and African Cycling to see Amanuel hugely overperforming in 6th.
But also extremely bizarre that he acted as my team leader given that he is 5 hill stats worse than Dowsett with only 75, and he wasnt even the best Eritrean hill rider in the race for me.
Also flukey for RBC to have 2 riders amongst the 6 to attack and stay clear, whereas stronger teams with stronger leaders did nothing.
And Dowsett.... no comment

Well I can't be mad about being outsprinted in the end looking at where the other favourites ended up, so good job!
For once our leader is in the early flurry of attacks that stick, Nerz likes to show the exact opposite for a good year and a half now so that's definitely nice to see.
8th for Felline means we go home with exactly as many points as Kelderman would've gotten for the win, that definitely makes it a successful day. Just what we needed to not lose a lot of ground after Corsica.
Thanks tsmoha (#5837534 by now) for another great report, and congrats Gazelle who apparently found the hidden doping option in PCM and blackmail tsmoha with a sex tape or something
