GP Sallanches
Held on the same day as Milan - Sanremo, the CT is introducing a new hilly classic on the schedule: the GP Sallanches (France) makes it's debut as a C2HC classic.
A quite challenging profile: a flat first third of the race is followed by a long climb and the peloton will then enter a 6-lap-loop featuring a short, but steep climb (which also makes for an uphill finish then).
The Startlist
The Favorites Rider | Mo | Hi | Zeits | 73 | 77 | Vastaranta | 64 | 76 | Passalacqua | 63 | 76 | Sinkewitz | 72 | 76 | Molard | 71 | 75 | Kinney | 65 | 75 | Der | 73 | 75 | Stachowiak | 62 | 75 | Gaimon | 72 | 75 | Rocchetti | 63 | 75 | Cioban | 65 | 75 | Chérel | 61 | 75 | Gougeard | 61 | 75 | Belmokhtar | 72 | 75 | Sørensen | 76 | 74 | Walker | 69 | 74 | Anacona | 79 | 74 | Marentes | 73 | 73 | Atapuma | 78 | 73 |
Zeits should be considered the top-favorite for obvious (stat) reasons: best puncheur plus adding a decent mountain-stat, in case the route proves to favor the better climbers a bit. Which some managers seem to assume, as we notice guys like Anacona or Atapuma lining up here as well.
Vastaranta, Passalacqua and Sinkewitz as the next favorites then. Sinkewitz had a solid start into his CT-campaign and can be a real threat for sure. A few more riders like Molard, Der, Gaimon or Sorensen will hope for a great result here, too. So especially Netia and DeLaval with more than two options each, which could make for an interesting race.

Thanks for the preview, tsmoha!
Afraid the mountain stat has a big infuence here, which doesn't benefit Kinney at all

Nice preview, hopefully Zeits wont dominate and give a chance to the other climby punchers like Molard!
Netia with Zeits and Sinkewitz is definitely the team to beat.
We had a top 5 goal here, at least this one seems to be in reach ;)

My money is on a Netia rider winning. Proper start-list domination.

If the mountain hill ratio proves too much then so be it. We'll see what happens. Maybe De Maar will attack for funzies.

Left Favilli at home, maybe not the best choice seeing as Vastaranta and some other similiar guys are here but figured MO stat would put him out of contention anyway. I hope for a BOTD from Einsle, Pfingsten, Kriek or Tulik to get some possible points. Mayber Belmokthar can keep the pace of the favourites, his acceleration is awful and don't let me think about his other secondary stats.

Top 5 goal here for Sodexo but I think it will be very difficult to reach given the strength of the start list...

Hoping for a win here, with Zeits, Sinkewitz, Der and Stachowiak, it would be pretty disappointing not to take our first victory this season. It's also the first race with our 4 top puncheurs in it or 8 of our top 9, just missing Mørkøv to have our perfect hill squad, so if that doesn't get us a podium, our season is pretty much dead.
Course, they'll probably find a way looking at those Generali and Delaval teams, I didn't even bet on Zeits.

What was that? I do not recall giving orders of sitting in the peloton doing nothing all day?

Fuck yeah, algerian workhorse!!
Did not expect much and hopes sank after none of my guys was in the BOTD, but Belmokthar did good in hanging on, following pace and finishing on a strong 6th place.
This means that Strava has had in each race for January-February a guy in Top 10 overall. Please may this streak long continue.
Also strong 15th place by Einsle. Vastaranta (gratz to Atlantius) makes me regret not sending Favilli there tho, but there's no reason to dwell on such things.
Great report, thanks!

DeLaval and Netia cleaning house there. After some questionable planning choices methinks Netia will need a few more results like that if they are to come near their 3rd place prediction! |
