For the first time since the Canadian classics were added to the MG calendar, the two races are in different divisions. While Quebec stays as C1 race, the course in Montreal is taking a small step down to C2 HC. Being HC rated though still provides a nice startlist for a course like this.
It`s very hilly with lots of laps but recent years have shown that the descent/flat in the end tends to allow a reduced group sprint where a strong sprint is needed. Going one division down though could change this as we have a clear favourite this way:
Mendes is the division`s star for the hilly races. He was already 4th last year as helper for the winner Ventoso. So he surely knows how to ride this track.
Except for a very few, the division`s top puncheurs are at the start:
| Hill | Sprint | Mendes | 78 | 68 | Passalacqua | 76 | 62 | Kolobnev | 76 | 63 | Haas | 76 | 68 | Tiernan-Locke | 76 | 63 | Godoy | 75 | 58 | Gaimon | 75 | 67 | Bugge | 75 | 63 | Schurter | 75 | 66 | Cioban | 75 | 64 | Duggan | 75 | 62 | Wyss | 75 | 68 | Hollenstein | 75 | 63 | Firsanov | 74 | 63 | Rosskopf | 74 | 61 | Feillu | 74 | 63 | Appleby | 74 | 61 | Moinard | 74 | 59 | Geschke | 74 | 76 | Pozdnyakov | 73 | 75 | Parisien | 73 | 74 | Veilleux | 72 | 71 |
The crowd surely is cheering for Mexican team Azteca with two strong Canadians. Both have a decent sprint, so it`s not impossible to see the first Canadian win here in Montreal.

Hopefully the hills don't become too selective here, as Pozdnyakov should be able to hang on in that case, or maybe even Iglinski, who's even better at sprinting. Geschke being here is quite disappointing then
Otherwise I have Firsanov as well, who I do have some confidence in for a top-10.

Hopefully Cioban will finally step up to the expectations of him. If not Sarabia have shown some great attackign form lately so that could be an outiser should things get out of hand for the big names.

Goodness knows how this one will turn out. Borges, Godoy and Losada is a great trio to have in such a race, ideal perhaps for those potent mid-late attacks.
Massive race for many teams here and a definitive one for battles right throughout the top 10 in the rankings.
Huge race. |

Hoping for a selective race here, with Haas and Bugge amongst the best.

A reduced group sprint would be awesome for Geschke. However, it will be difficult for him seeing the amount of better hilly riders which could cause earlier problems.
Huge race for many teams.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Would like to see Mendes shine here after his year with us last season, but would be equally satisfied if our loanee Borges were to manage a notable result.
Looking forward to this one.

Vontobel press release:
With great regret we need to announce that Reto Hollenstein isn't able to participate at the Grand Prix de Montreal. He didn't felt well since the arrival in Canada and was transfered to the McGill University Medical Centre in Downtown Montreal. First diagnosis points to a serious suspicion of food intoxication.
Matteo Montaguti will move up in the co-leader position to assist Marcel Wyss achieving another impressive result.

Although an invite would be very welcome, Grupo Nutresa were not contracted by the race organisation to attend the GP Montreal. Kolobnev will therefore have to wait til the next major CT puncheur rendevous in his home country race, the GP Yekaterinburg for the opportunity to battle for victory!
Team management and riders will take the opportunity to catch the global MG tv coverage to check up on the form of our main rivals!

Strong field here. Might do well but might totally miss out as well.
Mainly hoping Mendes & Geschke don't do too well here

After a day in the breakaway for Magellenes at Quebec it looks like we again will be hoping for a chance in the breakaway. While the field isn't a strong as the C1 competition earlier, we still won't be favorites here and need to ride smartly.

Of course this race is absolutely massive for us, probably the biggest of the remaining ones. This could make or break our season - if Mendes wins here, we're looking very good for that Top 10 goal. Hoping Herald Sun Mendes shows up, not Seskin Hill Mendes....

Hopefully the amount of downhill, and the fact there's some so close to the finish can play into Schurter's hands and help him on his way to a strong result. Although I'm not that confident as we have really struggled in one day races this year.
EDIT: Ignore that, we're not here, seeing Schurter's name in the preview confused me for a second there, though we are correctly not in the startlist picture as we weren't down to race it.

That was quite allright, Sobal and McConvey also scoring some nice minor points. Still, really should've won that. Upside being that the winner was "only" Ameriabank, so no direct rival.

Apparently there was a mistake when hiding some coloumns. Same as with Hollenstein it seems, |
