2x70km including a small mountain, followed by 5 times the 24km local round including a short hill, pan flat finish though in Tokyo
Today is a busy day in the world of cycling, later today you can watch the best climbers of the world during the ProTour classic GP Liechtenstein. Or if you enjoy sprinting more, you can go watch the GP Plouay instead (former ProTour, nowadays a one day classic in the European Continental Circuit). But thanks to the time difference we start this day with the early morning broadcast of the Grand Prix in Tokyo, Japan.
The first edition (2013) was won by JÃri Hochmann (Die Berg Komt Er) in a mass sprint and also this year, looking at the startlist, most teams are again hoping for a peloton sprint finish.
There are seventeen CT teams and two PCT teams:  Compal and  Meiji but surprisingly they don't have the best sprinters of the field, they do however have local heroes  Kosuke Makino and Fumiyuki Beppu in their line-ups.
Last year winner JÃri Hochmann is here to defend his title, but this year he is riding for  Team Ameriabank-Novatek, who also have one of the favorites for today: Aleksandr Serebriakov, so it will be interesting to see what their team tactics will be.
The two other main contenders are  Damion Drapac (3rd last year) and  Juan Pablo Forero.
Behind these main favorites there are a lot of other good sprinters here in Japan like  Tyler Farrar,  Michael Matthews,  Michael Vanderaerden,  Azizulhasni Awang,  Mattias Westling and  Armindo Fonseca.
Other teams might go for the small chance of a breakaway making it to the finish, riders like  Yannick Stoltz,  Armands Becis and  Antoine Matteau are all capable of riding in front of the peloton for a long time.

My gut-feeling says that the climbs will be too much for Westling. Sarabia or Cioban will be near the front approaching the finale and then just sit up and cross the line in peace and quiet...
But hey that leaves room for positive surprises

That's the last race for me in quite some time, as I have a race free September. None of my riders are considered as favourites so I hope as always that a successful break with a rider of me makes it.

This is Forero's penultimate race of the year so I really hope he can put in a good performance. A podium has to be the target here.

The last race of August, the season end is now, almost, in sight.
Difficult to call this one, Hochmann is billed as the favourite but doesn't have fantastic stamina compared to others. I am going to plump for a Forero win this time. |

Interesting to see Stoltz mentioned as pre-race-favourite (kinda) instead of Geschke. Ofc, It would be cool if Geschke would win this but I'd go crazy for a Stoltz win...
Realistical seen I think that Farrar and Matthews should be the top favourites but if the hills are raced harder then it may as well be my own Geschke ending up on top of the podium.

Nice to see The Devil back in action. Barcelona showed he can handle hills, so I wouldn't be too sure they'll stop him this time around. Podium should be the goal, but if we don't want to be cutting it close for promotion, a win would be nice.

Apart from the undenieable upcoming top20 result by Martin Kohler, Armindo Fonseca has to deliver. He promised to be at least within two bike-lenghts to the winner.

Longest 1-day race in CT?? Will be interesting to see if the race length has an impact or otherwise. I can recall back in the heady newbie days of pre-season having hope that this would be a good use of RDs for Kolobnev given his combo of main stats and high stamina (in CT context at any rate). Been a long wait for the answer to this question! Also have the obligatory sprint cadre here in case it does all stay together.
Finally, a debut for stagiare Becis. Don't know what the hell happened here, as with my last 10K of wage space, I bid on 2-3 riders that others then jumped on who I would still regard as good talents. Then I went for this guy! As OT intimates in the preview, I must have been dazzled by his high fighter stat!   .

Was hoping my riders would be a little better compared to the rest of the field but I couldn't bring my best riders obviously Hopefully Modolo and Nateghi can still do well.

Had very high expectations beforehand, and with Serebriakov I had counted on at least something more. One thing is becoming more and more sure now: he'll not be renewed unless very cheaply.
A not very surprising victory for the break again, and I'm getting enough of the PCM13 single race AI. This season can't end soon enough now.
A good report though, well done Oleg.

Still, yes, the CT definitely saw too many solo wins in classics. I won't go crazy about that, it's just like it is. Too bad cunego ain't around here atm, must have been Vitoria's best effort this year.. Glad to see Drapac grab some points, despite missing his podium from last year.

Surprise, surprise, another hopeless solo win(as with Kenny in Cigar City Brewlight Twilight GP, but hey, they are hopeless when they are going against you)... Good sprint from Matthews and a top 5 as I hoped for before the race.

I would struggle to find a race we have been in recently that hasn't gone to a breakaway... Atleast Modolo took 3rd in the race.
