Tour de Bretagne Discussion
The Rider
i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag411/ramblingman92/stages_zpsfeef6e10.jpg

With the Ruta America del Sur only just wrapped up the continental stage racing calender moves swiftly on with the Tour de Bretagne. This seven stage race suits riders of multiple capabilities, stages 1-3 look dead set for sprint finishes, whereas stages 4 - 7 look to favour the puncheurs and those late attackers. Stages 5 and 7 include cobbles, on stage 7 the cobbles could really have a significant impact, especially if the unforgiving Bretagne weather plays a part.

The Favourites:

HILLCOBSPRINT
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.pngA.Kolobnev765463
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.pngA.Passalacqua765262

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/tcu.pngB.Selander746369
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.pngG.Bole746376

After some great results in the early season i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/gnu.png Grupo Nutresa will be hoping their Russian import, Kolobnev, has a good race and is there or thereabouts come the final standings. He is ably supported by, amongst others, Cesar Fonte, who had an excellent race here last year finishing second overall.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Risa - Ergon won the overall title here last year and bring the defending champion Michael Olsson. Olsson, however, may be on domestique duties this race as Risa - Ergon have two real contenders for the GC in the potent combination of Haas and Bugge. Bugge is the most competent puncheur on the cobbles, so he will be many peoples favourite, especially if the cobbles turn out to be really selective.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Team Vontobel are another team in a great position with two riders, Wyss and Hollenstein, who could really do something in the GC.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/nor.png Team Nordeus' Grega Bole deserves a real mention, this is the type of race where he could score plenty of points with consistent finishes on all seven stages. Besides those names there are 15+ riders who could all figure in the hilly stages and could have a say in the GC battle.

The Sprinters:

With at least 3 sprint finishes on the cards we have an able selection of sprinters on the startlist. There is no clear favourite for the sprints, however, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/vtb.png Fonseca is the man on form entering the race after picking up two stage wins in South America.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/rse.png Risa - Ergon are reall bringing a strong line up to this race, not only do they have multiple riders for the GC battle, but in Jørgensen and Sutton they have two candidates for stage wins in the sprints. i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.png Azteca - NBCSN have been putting up solid lead-outs all season long so far, if they can do the same again Farrar looks a good bet for a stage win.

The sprint stages we do have are really straight line flat affairs, which will favour the flat-out quick men. So Vingerling and Hochmann will start as the favourites, if anyone does.

The Cobblers:

COBHILL
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.pngS.Joseph75
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.pngN.Østergaard75
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.pngJ.Ringheim73
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/ioa.pngJ.Paiani73
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.pngG.Lilholt73
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.pngG.De Winde72
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/evo.pngT.Dupont72
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.pngT.Declerq7271
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.pngR.Gavenda7268
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lin.pngK.Lovassy72
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/flg.pngE.Van Wyk71
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/azt.pngT.Farrar71

Few will be surprised that the two continental cobble powerhouses, i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/lpu.png Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Cycling Team & i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/cdb.png Team Carlsberg - Danske Bank, bring the most noted cobblers to this race in Joseph and Østergaard. As most of the cobblers are not, by any means, specialists on the hills it remains to be seen if the pure cobblers have any impact on stages 5 & 7.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/pum.png Team Puma - SAP, the only pro continental team in the race, look to set to profit most if the cobbles have more of an impact than suspected. In Tim Declerq they bring a rider who could be a dark horse for the GC, as he is the most all round proficient rider here arguably when it comes to hills and cobbles.

i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/microjerseys14/wwr.png Wounded Warrior Racing are the only team with no, even remote, favourite for any of the stages. Luck will be shining bright on them if they leave Bretagne with a stage victory.

Hopefully Hochman will, unlike Serebriakov, be able to actually win. Enough chances here, so let's see. Hopefully Firsanov can go for a good result in the GC as well.

Nice preview. Our first goal race and we are really optimistic to deliver.
After falling short in the early season Vontobel's Frenchmen are in much better shape now. Confidence in Armindo Fonseca is there, he'll fight for podiums in the first three stages, while the Swiss entity goes for the GC. Marcel Wyss was struggling in South America, but should be strong enough get the job done.
Anyway a highly anticipated and indicatory race!

Back to defend our title here. The cobbles didn't create gaps last year, so that will probably not be decisive. Think we have a good chance to defend the title, to be honest. Hopefully we won't let a dangerous break go in this time...

Fantastic preview, great job. Looks a fun race, looking forward to the drama.

A top class preview. Excellent work on it!

To my team: I sent a mixed group of riders with Dupont, Boivin, Saramotins and Teruel capable of possible stage surprises. Curious to see who will be leader of my team here.
Hopefully, the team (especially Bauhaus, Grand, Willwohl) will try to join breaks as often as possible!

Back to racing! Grin

I indeed hope for the cobbles to have an impact, with most of my C2 eligible riders more or less good in that, this was a rather obvious race to choose.
It's mostly exp though, so I'm happy to at least have a mention somewhere.

Herklotz is the usual dark horse for a late attack or the sprint on those last 4 stages, while I hope Minard will at least participate in the sprints.

For the overall, considering it might come down to bonus seconds, Bole looks a serious threat. Bugge has the best stat combination if the hilly stage creates sufficient gaps.
Though seriously, if Declerq is indeed the one we ride for, a slow stage 4 could lead to a huge surprise...

Top 5 is the goal, and possible. Don't mess this up, Duggan.
Vingerling should be a big threat in the sprints too.

Thanks for the great words everyone. Wink

Will be interesting to see which teams can complete their goals, with a few teams with goals here.

Yay! Not even expected this, nor did the team given Foliforov attacked. Superb victory for Jíri and hopefully his first wasn't his last Grin

Finally back in racing after a long break. Hopefully, we'll be able to catch some points here, as the terrain will definitely suit Bole. However, I really hope that the last stage and those short cobbles sections won't fuck up us again, like they did couple of times before.

5th is certainly a good start!

Good preview and nice to see Sarabia among the favourites. Hopefully he'll do enough to get that top 5 we have as a goal.

And YAY FOR OLLI!

Great start into the race by Rennes native Breton Armindo Fonseca!
Now it's time to go all in for a stage victory.

Great to see my loanie Grand being very active and eventually might even get a jersey in the end. Should be a nice support rider for my cobbled squad next year.

Also Ariesen proving to be valuable in a sprint train even though he was not strong enough to bring Vanderaerden to the finish line as first.

I really love to see the guys ride like that, but a result would be nice too Pfft
