September 2013 - Nominations

Once upon a time.... By: baia

PCM13 - French DB - Team Story - 73 Posts This Month

Summary: The tale of young riders coming up through the ranks all on one team, ONCE Cycling team. This month all they did was win, no matter what. So much so that baia had no choice but to bumped the difficulty up to extreme. However, it had little effect as they continued winning once again. Pun intended. Not only have the results been great lately, the pictures and use of the flag codes adds a nice touch to the reports. But the best feature I saved for the unique section below.

Younger riders need guidance, so to get you ready for the key stages baia hands out the blind man tactics. It's an image of the profile with makers pointing out what the team plans to execute throughout the stage. Helpful, funny, and very original.

Qatar Optics By: The Rider

PCM 11 - Daily DB (Custom Future) - Team Story - 177 Posts This Month

Summary: Qatar Optics picked up steam this month earning The Rider back to back month nominations. Where to start? The 2019 TdF won by a guy named Kenny, the overachieving performance by the team at the Vuelta, or perhaps the team riding high on the rainbows at Nurnberg. And yet, so many more moments I can all summarize. The story sure moved quick this month as transfers were already cleared and Qatar Optics is already racing the 2020 season.

Not only have the speed of the reports been outstanding, the pictures have gotten even crazier since last month. I didn't even think that was possible but The Rider has rightfully proved me wrong.

Salvatore Puccio By: andy222c

PCM 12 - Daily DB - One-Rider Story - 52 Posts This Month

Summary: The return of Salvatore Puccio, after being gone for over 6 months, was unexpected yet magnificent. Andy222c felt bad for leaving Puccio so he decided to end what he started by wrapping up the 2012 season. It's completed with a very detailed season review, and a look forward into maybe continuing into the 2013 season. Lack of motivation seems to hinder this story, so hopefully this nomination will help.

Although the story only had a few updates in it's return, the format is world-class. Lengthy, detailed, and stylish reports give Puccio the edge for this nomination over the honorable mentions that may have produced a few more updates this month.

Team Bunzl-Centrica Video Story By: brewers90

PCM 13 - Daily DB - Team Story - 413 Posts This Month

Summary: Our other back to back nomination will be seeking revenge as it came just a few votes short of winning the award last month. Bunzl-Centrica has been one of the most active stories this month putting out 23 new videos and accumulated 20 new pages in it's thread. It's quickly become one of the best community rider stories of all-time, not like it had much competition. I would try to recap it all but there is just so much, so I'll let you go check it out for yourself.

Take a break from reading and sit back and enjoy hours of PCM footage. Stages are highlighted just with the main events so you get to see a few races in each video, plus you get access to all the extra footage that text based stories find hard to include.

Team Plussbank By: FroomeDog99

PCM 13 - French DB - Team Story - 89 Posts This Month

Summary: Starting two months ago, Plussbank would have probably been nominated as a "New Story of the Month" last month if the award existed then. But here it is now in the main event, so it's all good. The team is full of weak Norwegians trying to make a name for themselves. Considering Nordic Cycling won last month, we might find ourselves a trend. The end of the first season is approaching fast so head over and check out how the team is doing.

The report format is what really sticks out, not as impressive as Puccio but still great. Also the detailed reports resemble Man-Game report quality, I wonder where FroomeDog picked that up from? Hmm...

Honorable Mentions: Australia's NRS, Ian Boswell

New Story of the Month - Nominations

Be a Pro: Telefonica By: Ian Butler

PCM 13 - DB Not Given - Team Story - 223 Posts This Month

Summary: Taking an anderspcm and bwiggins team pack and making a community rider story seems like the way to go these days as Ian Butler made his return to writing by following in brewers90's footsteps. Except with an added twist using the FIFA Be a Pro Mode stat upgrade formula. The story has pushed into February of the first season but computer problems and "lack of motivation" has hindered it's progression.

Mr. Butler sure knows how to write stories, he is a seasoned veteran by now and his reports show that. Mostly know for his one-rider stories, he carries that style in this story helping it have more depth then a normal team story would have.

Fabio Melani | Road to Le Tour By: Cycleman123

PCM 13 - DB Not Given - One-Rider Story - 120 Posts This Month

Summary: Strange to see Ian going up against two one-rider stories. The first follows Argentinian Fabio Melani on his journey to winning the Tour de France. The story so far was gotten to the Giro del Trentino and continues pumping out report after report in great detail.

The detail and constant updates gets Cycleman123 a new story nomination. Could use some work in formatting though but not everything can be perfect when starting a story. For example, all three new story nominations failed to mention which DB they were using (or at least I couldn't find it). How dare you!

img706.imageshack.us/img706/9781/58gx.jpg

The Italian Dream By: TomC

PCM 13 - DB Not Given - One-Rider Story - 38 Posts This Month

Summary: The other one-rider story follows Tomasz Kowalski, a 21 year old cyclist from Italy born in Poland. We get a heavy back story and immerse ourselves into the life of Kowalski. So far no PCM reports but the history is diffidently worthy of this nomination. It's different, which sometimes draws readers away but take the time to get know TK.

The story uses an episode based reporting style, I wonder where TomC picked that up from? Hmm... It's got a long ways to go in order to match the bar set for these types of stories but it started off on the right foot so I wish it the best of luck.

I can forsee a very interesting October competition coming up, what with the Daily DB and all...

But this month is damn good too. For me there can only be one winner, and by a very long margin... New Story is a lot closer, but again there is only really one choice for me.

Good Luck to everyone, as they deserve to be there.

My story has 110 posts in 11 days, c'mon that's gotta be worth something.

Quality not quantity you fool of a took!

Seriously great stories up here though, and whoever wins deserves it, but I just voted for people who follow my story

Bias for the win!!!
Seriously though I'm sure it's a coincidence.....

Great stuff and well done all (even me I guess) Cool

A great preview 'Mre' will be interesting to see how many votes are cast compared to last month. Wink

8 votes so far for each, so hopefully that means the other members that haven't voted yet are closely examining the stories to make a decision. Wink

Right now we have one close vote and one that is turning into a landslide. I let you figure out which one is which. Pfft

Wow... very surprised to be nominated along such strong stories! I'll take it as a symbolic gesture for upping my motivation, as i haven't been updating near the same as any of the other guys. Thank you very much for the nomination and the great words.

In my opinion it's partly because of the voting per PM (although it's nearly the same 'difficulty', I think there'd be quite more votes if it was a thread pool), partly for lack of 'announcement'. For example, I didn't even read the new posts in this thread because I usually don't scroll down that much in the forum to see the "PCM.daily initiatives" forum. If this thread was moved to the Stories forum/made sticky while the vote was going + mentioned in Weekly News, like TMM pointed out, I think there'd be more votes. With so much people following stories around Daily, it's indeed surprising that there only a few more than 10 votes this time...

I really haven't been following stories so if I vote it would be bias and hurt the credibility of the winner.

Yes. I mentioned that when the idea came out.

I agree, I don't scroll down to the Initiatives, great suggestion to move it to the stories

A. If you are too lazy to send in a vote by PM (which takes an extra two seconds of your time) you shouldn't be voting anyways. People put a lot of effort into their stories and they deserve to have a winner decided by people that will put in the effort to vote for a winner. I'd rather have the 10 people the actively read stories pick a winner then have 40 bystanders come through and decide a winner because they are anonymous when voting in a poll.

I'm not angry, just a little confused because we got close to 30 'active' readers the first time to vote and now less then half. Also you are voting for two stories, not one... I appreciate those that have only voted for one and then gave a reason for not voting for the other. But those that just named one stories do make me angry. Rolling Eyes

B. How do you guys check for "new" news? Through roaming the discussion forum? I have always clicked new posts and get to see everything I missed while I was gone. CrueTrue made this new thread for this (and betting), so I doubt it will be moving anytime soon.

Well my reasons for not voting are simple. I want to waive my nomination for the story of the month as I'm in it and it would be weird to vote, same as last month.

As for the new stories, I follow none of them, so would be a bit stupid for me to vote with no reasonable knowledge.

But I will definitely vote in the future, I think it's a nice new addition, as long as people aren't starting stories just to try and get an award.

Exactly Pfft New posts is too confusing for me, mixes the stuff that I intend to read with the ones that I don't (MG, story games, etc) + afaik each post in the same thread appears one time, meaning a thread with 10 new posts appears 10 times there.

Mresuperstar
I guess I just have too much time on my hands if I scroll through all the new posts and click on the ones I want. If that's how you do it I understand completely why having this so far down on the forum is a problem. I just figured a lot more people did it through the new posts system because that way you never miss anything.

Regardless, I don't think it's going to get moved so everyone remember to look there at the start of each month. Wink
