AG2R are recently the excpetion of that rule.

I don't think it's really a big issue for FDJ that they sign predominantly French riders, it gives the team some personality which is severely lacking in today's peloton, also the clearly look after the riders they have and have done well in bringing young French talent into the top level of the sport, they might be the best of the best but they are entertaining and clearly the model FDJ does have works as they've been around for some time now while newer teams have come and gone.

Well, Sky signs mostly british guys, Etixx mostly belgian, AG2R mostly french, Katusha mostly russian(so far), movistar mostly spanish....

Indeed. If you look at their squad's for this year Sky, Etixx and Katusha are all around 10 Brits, Belgians, Russians while FDJ has over 20 Frenchmen.

Main language in those teams is also not Dutch for Etixx or Russian for Katusha but English and Italian. While at teams like FDJ or LottoNL they mainly speak French/Dutch, something foreigners will have to adapt to.

Movistar is not all about Spaniards, but almost 90% of their team is Spanish-speaking

Movistar is not all about Spaniards, but almost 90% of their team is Spanish-speaking

Yeah, and the main reason why Movistar extended its contract through 2019 is Nairo; their Latin America market is huge. They would want to make it even bigger since thats the primary target of exposition.

Polish is the 2nd most widely spoken language in the UK, so signing Poles is still like signing British riders in a way Pfft

There you have teams with some "personality"


Sky only have something Like 10 Bristish riders, Etixx have 10 Belgians are a international team and have been for a while now, Katusha have never had any personality and there best riders have always been internationals, Movistar are certainly Spanish dominated, AG2R haven't had the same French connection like FDJ but Bardet has saved them a little this season.
I also never said that FDJ was the only team with personality, I just said the way they go about the riders they sign and the way they race gives them personality and that personality is lacking in today's peloton.

I like that move from Reichenbach, I don't like it from Farrar. Ten Dam and Howson also solid domestiques for their teams. Shame with Ratto, he really looked talented at some points...

Hermans (BMC) and Vanendert (Lotto) also sign extensions. Both for one year, just like Armee (Lotto) while Van der Sande (Lotto) signs a 2 year extension

From all accounts Ratto has lost motivation since stepping down from WT level which is understandable, still young enough to take some time off and come back to it if he chooses too. What's wrong with Farrar extending? He's a leadout rider at best on this level, maybe he could of stepped down a level and raced with one of the US Pro Conti/Conti squads.
Howson deserved a pay bump after his performances at the Giro and Vuelta riding for Chaves, he's not as talented as some but works hard so it's good to see it starting to pay dividends.
