It's a little bit weird that we always get nominations PAST the deadline when a thread have been open for nominations for a month!
It undermines the relevance of making deadlines imo - and we have been over it several times.
I have no interest in keeping riders away from development, so obviously they should be included when it's still possible but we really need to look at how we interpret deadlines...

If not too late, I'd like to nominate my riders for the XP, to make sure they develop. They can miss the race if its full of riders, else likely fill a team on their own. Hope to catch up soon.

I could not agree more with this!
Everyone had a month which is more than enough time to have been on the site once and nominated your riders if you actually wanted them to develop.
Obviously I too am someone who pains to see talents be wasted but it's ridiculous to accept any nominations after a set deadline when that deadline gave plenty of time.

100% disagree. If you miss the deadline the very least thing that should happen is you don't get to do whatever you've missed. I would also slap onadditional penalties. You had a full month to do a simple copy paste,

I have to agree with this pragmatically. In the past, I'd be 100% in favor of strict deadlines and punishments. quadsas is 100% right- it's only fair that people who miss a very lenient deadline don't get the benefit of what they missed. That said, I'm not sure we have the luxury of doing that to our current user base. Having all your talents lose a year of development over this may be fair, but it's also exactly what might cause a user to disband, and that's a greater evil in our current situation.

We are playing this game for fun. Nobody gets hurt if we just let them participate. No process has been stopped/delayed by them being late, so what. Don't understand why there is even a discussion
Spoiler Would be different if somebody misses a deadline that is explicitly necessary to continue with the game. Then indeed moving on without those players/with some sort of punishment makes sense. Here it's just not the case and unnecessary trouble.

Agree with Croatia completely. If it’s delaying a task somebody has to do to continue with the game then it’s a problem, otherwise it’s fine isn’t it? I know I wouldn’t take any pleasure out of seeing other people miss out on Avenir or development, and I’m not sure what other reason people would have to want people to miss out in this instance?

I mean, presumably the deadline existed for a reason and extending it delays something - that something being the DB creation and reporting required to have l'Avenir raced in its normal time frame. Obviously that's not nearly as important as if we were waiting on renewals or something like that, but it's something.
That said, the main concern is respecting the time of the user organizing it. If Abhi's okay with it, there's not a problem.

I don't have any problem either way. Off course, it would be beneficial to have stuff come in before deadlines (especially such a long one), but I haven't made the startlist yet, so it's not a hassle.
And I can't really take the final decision on this either. I have proposed two possible solutions:
1) Allow everyone to participate
2) Allow those who are late to get XP for riders but not race
Checking on that.

Let them participate completely! Let everyone in. Who cares. We should exactly be just shutting people out cause they were late and if they are getting the XP they may as well race right?

Since it's not a game driving deadline, im ok with everybody getting to race and get the XP.
However, i would like to see hard deadlines for game driving tasks be with consequences in the future.

If we're not going to enforce the deadline for Avenir, then why do we not just give every eligible rider the 20xp? About 90% of the eligible riders were nominated, so it's hardly a huge difference. Not saying it would be my preferred approach, but if we're not bothered about hard deadlines then we equally shouldn't tie the XP to it.
For what it's worth, my overall view is that while it's not a game breaking delay to accept late entries, it creates a precedent for missing more important deadlines. Obviously the important thing is to not remove the fun aspect, but it increases the stress and frustration of those organising the game when deadlines are missed - and each time it's accepted, it makes it harder to enforce when needed.
However, it's Sunday morning and I've not yet had a coffee - I may just be grouchy  |
