Good to see Mosca in the breakaway, and lasting there until 5 kms to go. He's been quite aggresive this season, which obviously gives me hopes that he'll repeat these performances next year when maxed in my team

Great to see Demare finally delivering what was expected... Congrats mate.
Also a good show from Lecuisinier. I must admit that this was one of those stages where I hoped he would do well, and maybe even score some time over some other GC contenders, but to take 3rd on the stage is really something.
Unfortunately it's still those seconds from the mountain TT that keeps him out of the pointsgiving top 4 in the GC. And after the TTT he will be even further away. Still, the U25 jersey seems safe for the moment with only Magnus Cort in an actual striking distance, but to see RBC without Phinney gain that much seems unrealistic.
Now to hopefully see Tzortzakis with one final good show, before things get to tough for him.

Too bad Schleck gained back a few seconds there, but Dombrowski looked good in the last part - always at the front.

Every day that Vosekalns ends in the KoM jersey is a good day.
Congrats cio! Demare is a beast who needs proper opponents for stages like this
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

A lot of work on stage 6 for no result, also breaks up our Top 10 streak for the first five stages. Overall, has been a good showing so far. Saber with an excellent 4th place on stage 5
Thanks for the reports roturn!

Demare on a roll here to make the most from the chaos. Aker messing it up big time, though, while Groenewegen in no-mans land gives indications that where it was previously a pre-determined crash system, it is now just a pre-determined "I couldn't care less" system that the AI adopted. And to be honest I prefer the crash option, as that atleast seems somewhat realistic.
We would have hoped for a better result here, but 5th is about the position to expect Tzortzakis at when the competitors are a bit all-over the place and he was boxed in when the sprint started, so I guess it's OK. But more points would have been greatly appreciated.
Having been on the good site of things earlier, though, this can be easily accepted.
Now to see just how horrible our TTT setup is, once more. Atleast I can hope that the combination of Vlatos, Lecuisinier and Vasyliv will help the team against complete failure, but having riders like Santos, Chamorro and Fabbro as the next in line (65-66TT) makes me fear a very poor show.

Unfortunately the "crash-system" and "don`t care-system" is nothing to activate or not. With crashes activated, some sprinters still would not care...Nothing that came only after no crashes.
Just annoying it`s already the second time with my team. Swift/Groenewegen in Qatar and now Groenewegen in the Giro.
Easily 400-500 points less than I had expected, which I am sure will play a huge role in the end in the relegation fight. Can only hope that in the other GTs and sprinter races, they care a bit more. |

Agree with roturn. Some riders did not care about their performance even with crashes activated. No news, unfortunately.
Looking forward to the more interesting stages now. A TTT with a lineup made for Morton (no overpowered setup and therefore probably no danger for Morton being dropped - at least I hope so) and so no ambitions for a stage win this time. Just need to keep Morton up there. He looks surprisingly attentive so far (though lacking the results, of course), so there's at least hoping that he won't disappear like he did earlier this season. Need some good results from him here!

What a mess
Demare winning is fair enough, but Ciolek should easily be the second best sprinter here, and seeing how we lined up, it looked very promising and like a stage where nothing less than the win would be disappointing. Especially with no train for Demare. Though, then came the flamme rouge and you knew it was going to be a huge disappointment
Congratulations, cio93! With that bonus win, surely Demare is suddenly a genuine challenger for the ciclamino. Should be an interesting fight versus the true climbers. |

I hope you get the train together ember, thought Bertilsson found a great wheel for a while. |

Intriguing to see my team take so much responsibility. We have a handful of good rouleurs, so to see Machado ahead of the bunch is confusing. Then that ridiculous train was a comic attempt which really didn't help Avelino, who was actually very strong today. Having Groenewehen out of it is not only ruining the race for roturn but also messing the dynamics of the sprints..
Congrats on the victory, cio. I disagree with ember, I still think there's no room for a sprinter to take the points jersey here.
Now let's see that TTT. We have a solid team but nothing too shabby so I'm curious to see where we land after that stage.

I agree... I struggle to see a sprinter even in top 3 of the points competition.
Obviously Demare is stronger than your average sprinter, but to see him perform top 3 sprints on all of stage 9, 12, 13, 15 and 21 seems far fetched even if he is the best.
Stage 9 looks a lot like a breakaway stage and then there's just 4 stages left with 7 mountainstages likely being a very consistent batte between the top 4-5 climbers.
Demare might be 3-4th in the points competition, but honestly I could see him even fall out of the top 5, with riders like Schleck, Dombrowski and Lecuisinier already within ~ 40 points and then also riders like Amador, Machado, Alarcon and Guldhammer should get good stageresults here and there.
Demare would have needed well above 100 points at this stage to stand a realistic shot at winning the points competition.

Got around to this report as well now, and I'm glad I waited a bit to do it right
Just a perfect sprint, slipstreaming the right train in the right spot until the opportunity arose.
Ditching our own setup on a pure flat stage was the right decision, unless stage 5 was just really unlucky.
This had everything going for us though, and hopefully allows Demare to carry the momentum through the TTT into stage 9, which could fall into our hands again if we show up strong and play it smart.
Either way though, two consecutive GT stage wins are an amazing feeling, and even if ciclamino ends up on someone else's shoulders in Brescia, it's great to have sparked a discussion that wouldn't even exist without Puma.
Thanks everybody yet again!
Now onto a very interesting day, we shouldn't be in danger to drop Bongiorno with this lineup, but we need to balance our ride well regardless.

Another great sprint by Van Poppel. He was third, now second, first should be next, right?
It looks like training him wasn't the worst thing in the world after all.

Not much to report from Tinkoff's point of view during our first week in Italy. Kolesnikov looks strong, the rest of the team too. But if I remember correctly this Pcm is not into top20-40 riders in the break right?

Nice stage for us, with both Stake Laengen and Iturria moving up to top 20. A great win for Amador and UBS. He might not have the greatest history, but now in the GC lead. Perhaps this could be his year?

Worse than what I was hoping for. More than 1 minute behind Schleck is not looking good. And there's Amador with 1 minute and a half advantage as well.
But if I'm complaining, what can I say about Alarcon - pretty much taken out of the fight for the win like that. Wow.

Another solid performance. Cool to see our loanees Nareklishvili and Leung proving their value, which allows Machado to keep his high overall classification. In all honesty I wasn't hoping to see him sit 3rd overall at this point, especially with such big gaps to the likes of Lecuisinier, Cattaneo or... Alarcon! Man, what a blow. So unrealistic to see this happen. I wouldn't discount him already. He'll enjoy lots of freedom now and he just needs one of his superb days to get back in contention.
Anyway, congrats Bushwackers! And thanks for another report, roturn!
