Poels should not be able to do that, not at all or maybe just Sky shouldn't be able to, either way...
Shame Nibali didn't have the legs, same for Kelderman losing the podium, Contador really made this Vuelta fortunately, beautiful way to end his career. Stage 19 and 20 have had the perfect stage winners.
Poels was already 2nd at the Angliru when he was really young and when he was at Vacansoleil. Explain how he is not supposed to be able to do it now? Being a far stronger rider than 6 years ago
I'm just annoyed at how Sky can have a squad that destroys at the tour and then still have a climbing domestique who can drop the cream of world cycling on the Angliru, just too strong a team, they really need wage caps.
I have nothing against Poels though, I like him when he's not in front of Froome.

Contador please dont retire amazing to see this. For me best cycling rider. Its a pity that Nibali was weak

actually think he could have if Froome had given him free reign. Then Poels would've been the most hated man in Spain |

Quite sure Poels felt the same way. Mixed feelings, level 1.000

In an interview after the race, Froome said he wanted Poels to win the stage. I don't think they gifted Contador anything but Poels could have been fater surely. Anyway, surely I am not the only one who is reminded of Wiggins and Froome 2012.

Anyone else think Contador might reconsider his retirement?
It seemed like a bit of a snap decision after a very poor Tour. He can still mix it at grand tours when Froome isn't there. Maybe try the Giro - Vuelta next year.

I don't know. I think Contador has been looking for the perfect time to retire for at least 2 full seasons and a half, and if this isn't perfect then nothing is. As sad as it is to say, if I were him I'd retire tomorrow after such an emotional and epic day yesterday.
This Vuelta just felt like a perfect farewell for him, people who disliked him suddenly started rooting for him, basically all riders that were in the break wanted to help him get a stage win etc. and I'm sure continuing now would somehow taint his legacy if he isn't as good in the future.
I sure hope he reconsiders with all this in mind

I hope he goes out on a high. He actually showed some impressive performances in the Tour when a single climb was vital but seemed to suffer over any stage with multiple long efforts. The Vuelta has less of those long stages that you see in the Alps or Pyrenees. That said everyone was in la (la) Vuelta land after the second rest day so it's hard to know - some very very impressive climbing performances thereafter...
In short I don't think he would ever be the same GC rider of a few years back and he clearly isn't interested in stage or jersey hunting so best to go with everyone euphoric.

Talking of climbing performances Wood's ride here:
https://www.strav...175833306/
He lost about a minute and 20 seconds to Froome/Poels and about 10 seconds less than that to Contador (who was already ahead at the base) while putting out 380W+ which at 64kg = 5.94 W/kg over 45 minutes at the very end of a GT. If correct it would mean the first 3 rode through 6W/kg. Will be interesting to see final estimates.

No, Contador said in an interview after the race he is definitely stopping and this doesn't change anything. |

It will be sad to see no more of Contador. He was definitely competitive for overall win

I was never a Contador fan. If you had told me when I joined that I'd be rooting for Alberto Contador today, I would have thought you were insane. But now I couldn't help it, his style of racing is just so brilliant and gutsy. Maybe it's because back then I took that kind of racing for granted. Without him, the racing will only become more dull, and as a cycling fan for ten years now, that saddens me.
Chapeau Alberto! I believe in fairy tales now.

Really pleased with what I have seen from Soler and especially Carapaz this Vuelta, something great to build on from their first GT. |

I somehow expected more from Soler, but maybe that was unfair.
Oomen surprised me more in his first GT until he got sick, but maybe that's unfair since he's been pro a bit longer already |
