Well Kuboki fought well, but it was crucial for Shikai to place well today, and he managed to do so, thankfully.

Nice efford by Lane again, always nice to have a man in the break.
GC-wise our ambitions are already gone, now it's on Cataldo to minimize losses.
Maybe Wöhrer or Maillet can attack early. With almost seven minutes down one of them may find a way to fight for a stage result.
Thanks for the entertaining reports, jandal!

Wow, what a sensational stage for us!
I was really expecting some fireworks from Borges this season, just not in this particular race. He's not the best hilly rider out there, but has a set of skills which make him an outstanding rider in situations like this.
Going 1-3 is stupendous as well, even more leading Teams, Youth and KoM altogether! Crazy!
Thanks again jandal, for another stylish report!

BTW huge grats to Gustavo because it's great to see a rider like Borges I personally really like - who doesn't have a thing for op acceleration lads - finally shine. Can't remember if he won something else this season, likely yes, but this makes it all the better obviously.
Ah thanks, matt. I remember you have predicted something like this would come this season for Borges. It seems like you were spot on. It's great to hear he gathers your sympathy too. I'm hopeful he'll get us one or two meaningful results like this till the end of the season.

So far everything has gone within the normal range, the real litmus test is the next stage that if not go well mean another race where the team ends up being bad..
Congrats for our neighbors for this great and surprising victory

Massive result for Prio and gustav! Congrats!
As expected we are a bit behind the real guns but top 20 with two guys could be possible still. |

Thank you Jand, some great smooth - fun (especially that Belgasem joke) - reports.
A Borges win! Feels like he has taken umpteen wins like that.
Some good exposure in the breaks for us, Mehr fighting well for the KOM jersey. With two in the top 10 the GC is looking well poised for us - another decent harvest of points from a stage race looks likely for one of the most anonymous teams in the MG - which is pretty ironic given our kit. |

Considering the 4th stage this is acceptable from Roche, hopefully he can end in the Top 5 and I'm one happy manager

Nice to see Malacarne tried to at least score points, but sadly he should have gone for the KoM jersey instead of Van Winden as now 5th place is decent but obvsly doesn't make that much difference. Hoping in the final TT now, Van Winden losing 31 minutes is normal, but I would have been more tranquil had it been less of a loss.
Great to see Dekker stepping up to help Compal's cause. Congrats!

We are never in breakaways this year! It's actually really frustrating. I mean, we've always got our leaders on the attack, but never those early BOTD moves.
Anyway, I had 0 expectations for this race due to Eastman's low hill stat and last year's results. But WOW, Eastman is riding like a champ! I love it when guys get attacking like that. Bodes well for Tour of America
Also, the opening prologue pretty much came down to daily form. I try to send a combination of Dumoulin/van Rensburg when there are prologues and TTs in the hope that one of them have pretty good daily form. Turned out well this time.

Thx guys! It was time for Dekker to show something on his monster wage, but for him to be such strong in this race is much better than expected. This alone can potentially save our season. Shit, I'm so happy now, and I hope this is not the last we've seen of Dekker this season!
Thank you so much jandal! You add action to the already dramatic race! |

Very well played by Nazaret and the team, a very good stage pity that does not serve much because the TT will destroy all our hopes...
Fiedler will suffer another disappointment in TT but it is nothing that is not already used

Well congrats to Bjarnte, Dekker was a beast here and I was scared of facing him since before the season began. 2nd is a great comeback for Amador, I can't complain.

Guessing Shikai's lower hill stat didn't help him on this stage, it seemed more important than I had thought. Just hoping for a Top 10 now and to hold on to the Points jersey.

Emberassing race by Cataldo, maybe his worst in a Vontobel dress... pity, it happens an important home event.
Now it's time to show some pride having the whole team fight for TT-seconds and reputation. We'll be back with a better performance next year!
Gratz to...
Dekker: for winning and justifying his paycheck
Amador: happy at least a Swiss team is represented on the podium
Roglič: for being the lucky odd man out with the race of his lifetime

Knew Costa here would be a gamble, but still didnt expect to see him lose 5 mins + on the hilly stage 4 as probably the best puncheu here, dissapointing. As he didnt get a mention in the report I guess he just didnt race this race?
On brightspot from this race is that Barbero is still racing agressive.
Big congratz to gustav though! Mendes and Machado really turning up here. Kubokis earlier efforts in the race were also pretty damn impressive.

How I feel
Congrats Bjarnte! It's good to see Dekker showing his worth and with the ITT tomorrow he could very well take the overall.
As for us, extremely disappointing. Hope Intxausti can at least get himself into the top 10 tomorrow but with the way the season's gone so far, he probably won't make it out the starting gate.
Thanks for the report jandal

Down to earth.
Strong day in the saddle from Dekker, which makes him very close to the final triumph. Still a tough day with a few courageous attempts from other contenders.
Would have prefered to see Machado take a better result here, but it was not meant to be. A top5 might just be out of reach now.
I'm really enjoying these reports, jandal, keep it up! Prorto - Pio ahah
