I have read this thread a couple of times but it is too technical for me to understand.
I want to download a patch that will let me play a career game with several versions of the Tour, Giro, Vuelta and other big races. I dont particularly mind what versions but I just dont want to play the same race each season.
Can someone give an idiot's guide to tell me what to download and then how to use it?
Easier than downloading and adding the stages by yourself: download a DB
For example, the PCMDaily Expansion Pack has lots of variants
- Changing routes for the major races:
- 8 new Tour de France routes
- 7 new Giro d'Italia routes
- 4 new Vuelta a EspaƱa routes
- 24 new routes for the other WT races
- 19 new routes for the World RR Championship
- 8 new routes for the World ITT Championship
- ... and "random" variants for National Championships in some countries
And you get everything else as a bonus
If you just want the stages, you could install it to an empty folder and copy only the stages to your game. That'd also work
Additionally, you could download the Cyanide Variant pack. Contains one more variant for some races plus several variants for the World RR.
I'd recommend you install both of them, but you can install only one of them if you want to.
(btw, if you have the Steam version, that link of the Variant Pack won't work - you'll need to download from this link then).

i have a question
in fact where should i place the variants?
for example, i have a tdf variant (renamed correctly), when i put it only in the mod stage, it crashes when it starts loading. Afterwards, i try to put it in the cm stage folder, it doesnt crash.
so i wonder if it should be placed in the cm stage folder or mod stage folder, and what should be put in the mod stage folder?
p.s. sorry for my poor english |

I believe that was originally going to be used for variants, but for some reason Cyanide didn't change/add something so its a redundant folder.

Patch 1.4.0.0 made the Mod/Stages folder work partially, so if you're stages are crashing when placed there, are you sure you have the latest patch? However it works partially because when you have the stages there, the pre-defined variants will not work (f.e. you have 5 variants for the Giro and one of them is specified to be the chosen one in 2012, but the game won't follow that and will use a random one instead for 2012).

I downloaded the game from the PCM website but the CM_Stages file. This is what the files inside the game file looks like
and this is what i have been told it should look like
I have saved the cds and zces files in the 'stages' folder available to me but that doesn't work in the game and i just get the 'Plouay - Plouay' stage which appears :/
It works on someone elses computers in the files i don't have available. What am i supposed to do?

You are looking in the wrong folder.
The folder of the bottom picture is:
C -> Program Files -> Cyanide -> Pro Cycling Manager - Season(/Saison) 2012, while you are looking in the MyDocs folder. In the My docs folder, there are things like your game saves, screenshots, the .cdb file of your DB etc.
So you should look for them again, but in the 'My computer' part of your computer, just like I wrote in bold above here.

You're looking at the My Documents game folder, the files and folders from your 2nd screen are in the main game folder (usually Program Files/Cyanide/PCM12). In the other thread you've created you've been linked to this tip which also says that

No. You can, however, re-use the roads connection if you have the .zcts file, but then you'll need to re-do the graphical part of the stage (cities, fields, forests, etc), unless you don't mind playing a stage with no graphics (which would still require the work to import roads connection into the stage editor, create the start, finish, sprints etc in the stage and export it).

If I have two variants for example top_giro_01_v1 and top_giro_01_v2 the third year I will have as the first stage one stage between top_giro_01_2012 (the one in CM_stages) and top_giro_01_V1(or V2). Is correct? |

I mean..... the stages of cm_stages (original of 2012, folder in C) will be used in other successive years if I called variants with v1 v2 v3 in document folder?? |

Normally, yes. Let's say your CM_Stages folders contains the following variants for Le Tour:
top_giro_01_2012, top_giro_01_v1, top_giro_01_v2 and top_giro_01_2014.
Then the game will choose a variant this way:
year | possible variant(s) | 2012 | 2012 | 2013 | v1 / v2 | 2014 | 2014 | 2015 | 2012 / v1 / v2 |
- variants containing a certain year will always be assigned to that year.
- a variant will never be used twice in a row.
From 2016 on, all variants will be possible apart from the one used in the previous year.

To my mind it is better to put all your stages in the CM_stages folder.

ooook!! a last question please...
if i put the name of my variants with v1, v2,v3.... is there no risk that the giro d'italia would have lots of mountain stages or chrono stages?
if: 01_v1 is chronometrical stage. 02_v2 si chrono and 05_v3 is chrono too, the game would take three (or more) chrono stages? |

No, the game only takes the 21 stages under a certain name. If there are 21 stages named v1, you'll only play with those.

No, because a variant is composed of 01_v1 , 02_v1, 03_v1, 04_v1 etc.
