David losing time is no surprise. Definitely no trust in his cobbles performance neither, but maybe can surprise me for once..
Lane doing a good job though. Hopefully he will be in the mix for breakaways further on. He's often a potential KoM threat, a pity that he missed the lead today.

Cavagna looked very good there, while Declerq lost a lot of time already (which is probably for the better).
Tomorrow's the decisive day, hopefully we can keep Rémi up there and protected well again.
Weinstein, Aregger and Ganna making the first big group is nice to see too, although none of them are likely to stay relevant in GC terms.
Ganna might get some U25 points out of the race though, with Cavagna solidly being in Top 3 contention in that classification.
They already score three points there today, which was very much needed though with Festina scoring 25.

Honest to god why do I bother! Van Baarle has to lose over 2 minutes and now we are going to have to pray for some good RNG and get into a lucky break or something. Especially with Oliveira doing so much better it just hurts to watch...

What the he'll was that? We lost in the lottery, and this could actually hurt us a lot.

Interesting stage up front, and well done to especially TVG, Koretzky, Oliveira, De Bie and Ponzi to take such an advantage of what I thought/hoped would be an easy hilly stage. Grieg also with a very good stage.
Very worried for our GC hopes here with Hampus. Seems like he isn't treated like a GC rider by the AI, which you can argue is understandable, eventhough I had hoped he would. Really need to have a great day on the cobbles. Hopefully he's allowed to make the most of it, at least riding to his stats
Thank you for being back on track with the reports, jph! I enjoy them, especially as the ToNE always gives some sort of unpredictable stage play, both on the hills and on the cobbles. Very curious to see what's in store on the next stage! |

Wow, that was a shit stage. No attacks and the splits all random considering ability. Compared to last year this is just a new race. If that's mostly down to the cobbles rating, I think we should consider switching back again, because that was one of the most random stages I've ever seen. Thanks for the report though, jph! I'm sure you had bigger hopes for attacks as well and congrats to Oleg on a great result.
Shaping up to be an amazing race for Generali. Hopefully Wisniowski can keep himself within touching distance after the TT, but the podium looks tough this edition.

Thank you for the report and effort, jph!
For the stage, I must admit I don't have much to say. Pretty sure that's us relegating right there, which feels really bad
Clearly we must do some breakaway magic on the remaining stages to keep some kind of hope. Sosa on the hilly stage is our hope, I guess, which I struggle to be too enthusiastic about. Please prove me wrong! |

While the stage really benefits me, it was an underwhelming stage. Hopefully Arashiro can keep hold of the Points and KOM, as it might be tough, but would really mean a lot now.

I guess Spengler is no Cancellara
At least Ponzi is hanging in the top-10. Hopefully he holds strong in the TT tomorrow and can make up some more time in the last hilly stage.

Actually a nice attempt by David (and Scotson), even though it didn't lead to anything but David finishing 'savely' in the bunch. Breakaway: this is the way!

We always knew this stage wasn't going to be for us, so now it's done we can look forward. The next stage too, however is one to just see through. We have Vlatos in Deutschland so no TT hopes here.
Fingers crossed we can score a bit of extra points in the remaining 3 stages from either Nizzolo or Koretzky.

One of De Bie`s best season performances comes on a cobbled stage.
No surprise to see Van der Hoorn as best rider with him while Van Hooydonck again one of the first to be dropped and also VdP too early.
Both not maxed yet but still annoying to get ignored so much in the cobbles so far.
9th in GC post the cobbles actually looking pretty good.
Generali a bit on cheat mode here. Big race and with the TT it could even become better for them. |

This Race has been the worst AI all year so far. The route change really was an awful choice this time.
Anyway, thanks for the very nice reports!

Looks like the hilly TT riders are going to do great here.
That Generali top 3
Our best rider is 19th, but we have five in top 35. Hope one or two of them can climb a bit.

Good performance from my loanees so far, especially Cosnefroy, although disappointing that he lost time on Stage 4.
Needs a good TT and then has to try not to lose too much time on the Hilly stage.

I wouldn't have minded if that final split had persisted, but even this way I can be very happy with how the stage turned out!
Cavagna looked attentive and well-supported, as I was hoping for, and slipped into white as a bonus.
Meiler already seems to be outperforming Declerq, which makes for an easy transfer season decision, although the latter did manage to s.t. in the end, which also helps us solidify a great teams classification position at the moment.
Weinstein and Ganna did not fall off as I initially feared after their good showing yesterday, and will both very much enjoy the TT coming up tomorrow to stay in the Top 15.
Both would need a rather unselective second hilly stage to convert that position into GC points though.
Cavagna needs to keep flooring the gas pedal now in the TT to increase the gap to the very dangerous puncheur stars just behind him in the GC.
TVG, Ponzi and De Bie are currently way too close to stay ahead even if stage 7 isn't ridden hard.
Plus, getting into the GC top 3 after tomorrow by displacing Theuns would guarantee some ranking points after that stage and the next.

I'm super disappointed with that stage. Not only was Blythe ridiculously weak on that stage but also the whole team gave up chances for depth results. Wasnt expecting this to be a great scoring race but this an utter disappointment. |

I agree this year the route was an unlucky choice. In this Race cobbles should definitely play a bigger role than it does this time. |

The team continues to perform above expectations all around!
Time for a breather tomorrow, and ideally stage 7 will then be as boring as the cobbles were.
This could still end up as anywhere from the most overperforming race of the season to an untimely disappointment.
