Brilliant time trial from Martin! Only having five 80+ climbers in front of him makes it a surprisingly good TT on such a flattish course.
All riders finishing on the same time on stage 2 = a good sprint stage. Congratulations to Roman! Howard showing how good he can actually be. Also cool to see Gjølberg have the joint KoM lead, eventhough it's obviously only for a day.
Wow, what a ride by Alarcon, just magnificent! Huge congratulations to Smowz, the Venezuelan delivers again on the big mountains.
For Martin I feared the worst when he was at the wrong side of the first split, but happy to see him fight back and in the end take time on several GC contenders. Sitting 5th in the GC is very nice, but it should be difficult to keep the three closest chasers behind. On the other hand it should be possible to gap Fothen on a stage, eventhough he was very impressive here.
Phinney in command in the GC is also kind of good to see after his bad Vuelta in the mountains, but as the Grand Tour showed, a bad day can come out of nowhere. Hopefully Martin avoids them.
Thanks for the reporting, roturn. I find both the pace and the quality great |

Good results for my team so far. Heano seems capable of finishing in the top 10, while Van Poppel is sprinting well.

I absolutely can't understand the tactics of my team in stage 3. The only real possibility could may be that my team wanted to take an advantage of Howard's quite high MO stat for a sprinter and exhaust other sprinters by dropping them early in the stage. In the end it at least paid off for a decent result for Vysna. Oh and big congrats, Smowz, what a huge win!

Certainly not "deserved" stat wise but who cares. Fothen stepping up big time here.
Also we controllable lead the team competition as well.

Ahem well first off. *Smowz unzips fly*
Oh yeah that felt very good - what a stage Alarcon you flipping marvel It reminded of that fateful day last year in the Pyrenees at the Vuelta when he did that and the rest of the favs went doolalee trying to find a butt to follow.
Just an amazing attack - totally mental and it paid off.
Interesting that possibly the most inconsistent climber we have seen this year is on a good way here in Suisse. Ole flatnose has more than his squashed conk in front. 2pilak is in is happy place of number two and Madrazo is looking like the overpaid cheesy spaniard he always seems to be.
Four quite interesting stages now. Two flats and hopes are raised of good Guerao challenging. A MTT should be comfortable for Phin, though Tenorio, Madrazo and 2pilak will be dangerous and then a hilly one where who knows what kind of cluster we have. Then two more mountain brutes....
Fun times.
Great stage enjoyed the report thoroughly as you may expect. Mestre is worth honourable mention as the softener.

I need Spilak to be better than this, but Im happy that Alarcon was the man to win.
If Spilak wants to win a race this season, this has got to be it. It requires a very strong hilly stage performance. Being 1min behind Phinney with a mountain-TT still left I doubt that he can win.

Ji could do a little better than that I would have thought. Great of Napo to show up in the sprint as well...

Great to see our stage racing home-grown talent Karnulin rising up to 14th in gC in such a strong field, it would be amazing to see him finishing this race in top20 overall.
Thanks for the reports and congrats Smowz and jph27!

Not much to say here... We're no GC team, and we have no stage favourites, so why aren't we attacking?

Nah lucky wins are reserved for the teams with 'lucky' co-efficient. Ayubowen and Pendletons are those sorts of teams. Quite pleased for Meiji though to get second - as they have had the unlucky sprinter not sprinting disease here.
Flat stages like this are annoying - PCM AI just does not really handle them that well. Well I guess you could say that about AI most of the time. It is almost as if AI doesn't read the road book.
No complaints really for Oscar - this was not a stage for him he started sprint then went backwards. Of course Goss 'winning' the sprint sort of makes me laugh in a evil cackling way.

I give up.
Some teams really got lucky with breakaways. Congrats anyway.
And thanks, roturn!

Yeah it seems like it's always the same teams. Mainly...
We did nothing which is unfortunate. I really hoped that either Koretzky, David or Coppel would go in the break, but I guess that when having Spilak it's never going to happen. Now I need to take the stage 5 if Spilak is to win this race.

Well I didn't see that coming...
Fantastic win for Gautier, hoping he can be up there on the hilly stage too. Pinot also climbed as well as expected and Vuillermoz finds himself in the KoM lead once again. Perhaps we may miraculously survive after all. |

Satisfied with the way the race develops. Already been in the break and two guys in the top 20 is pretty much what we've hoped for. At least the organisateurs won't regret inviting us.
Gratz to Ayubowan! for the surprising win!

I really wish we would go for the breakaway, considering this is our home race and all. And when we do go for it, we send the aging Tschopp who can barely ride a bike anymore...

Good to see Hoelgaard up there and fight for the win, but clearly he was up against guys that simply were stronger. Third place on that stage is anyway a bonus. Congratulations to jph27 on the win!
And now the crucial MTT. Martin will loose minutes to better climbers unless he finds his TT legs like he did on the opening stage. That can surely not happen twice in the same race, but here's for hoping!
And thanks for the report, tsmoha. |
