Wow. Epic report. Huge thanks for that! Definitely worth a re-read later today.
I will never complain about a GT podium, but it's still a bit frustrating to not score a single stage-win with Morton here. Eventually, he had his best days when the breakaways went for line honours. Well. He again tried today. But 5th on this stage is kinda disappointing given his backup stats. His long U25 lead at least gives some points that we missed through a possible stage-win.
Dyball with a huge fight after being dropped earlier in the stage. Good stuff to see him moving up to 30th with an unlucky Canty OOTL. At least some minor depth for us. Unfortunatelly they won't be anyone in the break tomorrow.
Of course it's now still about avoiding any stupidness in stage 21.

What an exceptional report and a very action packed stage! Glad to see Cattaneo win the stage and jump up the GC as he is the team leader of Borisavljevic who managed to get a mention

Phew, that could've been waay worse. Losing three riders on the last day isn't great, but they shouldn't have still been around in the first place.
Now for a calm last stage to seal the first sponsor goal of the season please. Thank you SN for the stage of the year report, no competition there.
Merry Christmas!

Despite that being a very eventful stage, it turned out pretty neutral for us. Losing a spot here and there doesn't mean much.
Great report, though!
Now to see Coquard fuck up one more time, before ending this race. Barring any disaster we come away with more than we expected, and ~300 points from a poor GT setup is very decent.

That was pure racing! And thank you a lot for an amazing report, SN! That was quite a stage, and I was thrilled to read it with Aker - MOT glasses as well, as up until Giau it looked like we played it out to be some kind of a masterpiece. Nesset played the perfect team mate for quite some time, destroying the "peloton" in a perfect moment, also putting pressure on Galta's opponents.
And then Galta's move on Zoldo Alto seemed promising, unfortunately Carapaz clearly hasn't learned enough Norwegian from his manager to understand he was meant to let that group ride away
Though, on Giau Nesset and Galta got it wrong, but great to see Galta battle on and grab 9th in the end. 11th overall is also around what was to be expected before the race. Really hoped for a top 10 as the stage progressed, but when Reis was able to get that great gap in pursuit of Cattaneo, it was always going to be difficult. Congratulations on that 10th place overall, Gustavovskiy!
Also congratulations to Heine for Cattaneo's epic ride, taking full advantage of the situation on the road at the perfect moment. Well done to climb to 5th overall as well with the stage win.
And thank you again, SN! Surely by far and away the most interesting and dramatic PT stage so far this season. I mean, it was full of action already from kilometer 6! |

What a roller coaster. My guys definitely tried but this just wasn't a day for a breakaway. A disappointing stage in the end (as it's been the whole Giro except for Majka's win) with Brambilla set to finish in 15th (lower than last year despite lesser competition) and Majka even dropping from the 2nd spot in the KoM rankings.

Insane stage. Just insane. Never experienced such a dramatic MG stage ever before and to have the main character in it just makes it even better.
I was a bit worried that my team wouldnt handle this stage and it would force Alarcon to work early, but wow, Carapaz really showed his talent here and saved the day!
To secure Points and KoM, with climbing to 2nd in teams really defines this as a truly amazing race for us aswell with what Alarcons already gotten in stage results and jersey leads bonuses so far. Now to avoid any disasters on the final stage please!
What an epic stage by some of the outsiders König, Reis and for sure Cattaneo! Especially the latter one really turned this to a great one for his manager! Congratz on the great run of form lately heine
I'm with tshoma on re-reading this later. The report here truly is the cherry on the cake of whats been a quality stacked race to follow. Thanks for that SN! Easily both MG stage and report of the year for me.

First and foremost, the most epic and crazy stage I have ever read. Great report! Must've taken hours to play and write!
The result was awesome for me ofc, the current run of results are turning our season around. First Zepuntke, then the prologue and pink jersey here, the Liechtenstein and then this. Top 5, 3 days in pink, 2 stage wins... Awesome! Mattia might've secured some training for next season...
Congrats to Hugo Boss and Alarcon, deserved win and never really in doubt

Amazing report absolutely! And it's incredible that even with such a dominating performance by Alarcon there was an enormous tension and doubt throughout the whole stage with constant attacking and cracking.
Congratz on Dev for the insane amount of wins (and points and KOM) and for the vivtory Heine! Also to everybody who had any success in this race.
Also amazing work throughout the entire Giro SN it really kept it intense and I followed it every stage (as I'm sure with many other people who weren't in it) and reports like today really showcase your quality!

That stage was a blast! Also very happy with Kruijswijks activity and the 3d spot in KoM it resulted in.
But it's a shame that Sosnitskiy was still injured and Konrad had a bit of an off day, because this means our team ranking got ruined on the last day of serious (gap producing) racing.
We probably didn't score a lot but this Giro sure was fun.

What a final mountain stage. And the report to go with it. Had no idea what would happen on any of the climbs.
Henao did not really try to attack the podium but would have been hard to get it anyway. Happy with 4th!. Also second in the points competition shows how good he's been.
We also are about to win the teams classification which is pretty special considering we're a PCT team. No idea if that happened before.
Hopefully with multiple sprinters abandoning Modolo (or even Ignatiev or Kolesnikov) can compete in the final stage.

What a cracker. Bonkers stage from start to finish. Reis' performance was top notch, too bad the differences were already massive. I'm still very much pleased to have jumped inside the top10. Thanks ember, I wasn't expecting this, Galta would have deserved the honour just as much.
Congratulations on the victory Heine. Brilliant month for Wiesenhof!
The report was mental! A real christmas gift, I can tell you that! I'm deeply grateful for this piece of yours SN. Thank You!

Fantastic report SN!
How did I feel about our performance? Best not to talk about it, it's the season of goodwill and all that.. |

Wow, what an amazing report! Thanks SN.
Happy with both Velits and Giogieri. Unless a disaster happens on the last day, I am really happy with this race. Also great to see Vesely surviving, hopefully gets a good result in the last stage.

Thanks for the comments on the Stage 20 report. It was such a crazy stage that it felt only right to do it justice, rather than skipping over a number of the attacks. It was a shame that Konig lost out on 3 positions in the end - sufffering from the slow final descent that clearly helped others to recover more - but it was a great attacking show, with a suitable and unexpected reward in 2nd in the KoM competition.
While a Top 10 in GC would have been very sweet, 12th is still a very good result for him - and paired with the four runner-up spots we got during the race, on stages and the final KoM, it ended up being a good Giro for the team - given our pre-race expectations. Van der Lijke struggles this season did continue though, which is unfortunate.
Alarcon takes a very deserved win, so congrats to Dev for that. It would have been good to see more of a fight from Velits and Morton, and for at least one of them to take a consolatory stage win, but it just didn't play out that way. It did really feel like Alarcon benefited from such a strong team, which the other two just did not have.
Even with the final stage going to a sprint, rather than breakaway, it does feel that most sprinters come out of the race feeling disappointed. Howard, Groenewegen and now Grosu the obvious exceptions - with Howard again proving his Grand Tour worth.

So our first GT as a PT team is over, whit mixed feelings GC wise good but sprint wise failure.
Another podium for Ahlstrand atleast.
But I really had hopes for him to get atleast one stagewin here, so all in all dissapointed over his performance in Italy.
Abal as said before a bit better then I thought and he acheived our top 10 goal with good margine. Other GC guys, Ludvigsson did it well by getting a 25th.
Lövkvist did good until he crashed out on stage 20, that was a nice amount of pts that "went up in smoke".
Thanks very much for brilliant reporting all race long SportingNonsense!
Congrats to dev4ever for Alarcons obvius win also congrats to podium places to Roman and tsmoha! |
