I'm loving it... Velits in the top 10 with two days left, COME ON!
Having double support here really seems to help him.
Stage 20 really is difficult. So maybe rest tomorrow and attack on day 20 again even though it is a day for the GC riders anyway being last mountain stage. So maybe other way works better. But who knows. |

Macahdo making yet more big moves in the Top10, at this point it's very realistic that he can finish in those top places

I really don't understand. Why is this GT so different. Why do teams care about getting overtaken for 15th in the GC now. Why do favorites attack so early. |

Thank you for a great report, cunego59!
But ouch, that really hurts considering Galta's top 10 goal. Though, now there's at least no excuse to not join the breakaways on the final two mountain stages. He simply has to
Big, big stage, and once again the AI is really, really good, I must say. Congratulations on the win, alexkr00, but also to all others that gained a lot on from that stage. |

I guess Samolenkov job is now getting to Tignes and Val Thorens without spending too much energy so he can shine on the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. The other riders will try to move up the General Rankings as much as possible. It's almost sad that we only have 3 more reports by cunego59!

I haven't been this ready for "F5" in years - Not since the early days of the transferseason.

Nice ride by Carthy. Congrats, jph.
The podium looks gone for Phinney now. We can of course hope that the last few days in the mountains have been down to poor daily form, but it's more likely his lacking backup stats that's hurting him. Just need one more push now, and hopefully he can keep a top five position. Seeing his development, I think a win in the Vuelta would have been hard as well, so with two stage wins + TTT win and lots of days in yellow, it could end being the right decision in the end any way. Wouldn't mind a GT with no climbing in the third week next year!

that attack by Lopez was sooooo f****ing stupid. there were two solid options to take: join the break to secure polkadots today and possibly gain some time on other top 15 contenders or wait until tomorrow to attack for it. the option he chose was a stupid middle way that never was gonna be enough to secure it while also wasting lots of energy. Now I'm fearing that he will suffer even further tomorrow and throw away a safe top 15 gc spot and the polkadot that looked quite likely yesterday. I'm pissed.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Bah, shouldn't have been so eager on the F5... Lecuisinier losing time to all rivals except for Phinney, who he should beat really...
One bullet left to overtake Morton and/or Dombrowski... But we also have to dodge Sicard and Denifl, which we absolutely DIDN'T do today, which isn't good at all... So while we might be closer to the podium than ever before, we are also closer to drop back to 7th than we looked before this stage.
Cataldo dropped outside the top 50, with Vuillermoz also very close to doing so now - It would be a real shame for those to not make the top 50 with a very late drop. Ioannidis secured his top 100 though with a very good ride today.
On the positive side Stauff managed to survive the stage as last man standing, but being the last man to cross the line I guess he'll be in for a difficult ride tomorrow.

Carthy was flying! Congratulations jph
Madrazo in total control of the situation again. There was one scary attack but he was on their wheel immediately. And when Morton went for it he just calmly brought him back. He's handling the GC campaign like a champ.
Of course it's a bit of a shame that we couldn't reel in the bulk of the breakaway, because we're leaving some valuable stage points on the table this way. But I can't fault the support team for being a bit knackered at this point. Tomorrow has a longer final climb; it would be awesome if Madrazo leaves the mountains with a stagewin in yellow.
Super interesting final week with tons of battles going on all over the place. Tomorrow could completely reshuffle many high GC positions, the KoM could change hands, the Green could change hands, the YC is suddenly somewhat contested again and also the TC could become tense if our domestiques have to work hard before the final climb begins.

I’m reserving my real thoughts for after tomorrow’s stage, but fuckity fuck that was too damn close. Those consolation points on the second climb being the difference between keeping the jersey or not. Brenes is absolutely roasted being in almost every break since the first couple of stages, that flat-hilly section being ridden so hard was definitely not suitable for him so fair enough that he dropped. He’s gotta go hard up that first climb tomorrow, if he can stay in contention with a few points there and recover on the descent, the next smaller climb will be very suitable for him to hopefully seal it. It definitely looks like too hard a stage for a break, so hoping Madrazo et al. take it and nullify the points there. Lopez is gonna need a good recovery after his implosion, but Carthy looked pretty damn good.
Brenes and Demare holding these jerseys for this long and losing them tomorrow would be utter heartbreak.
Congrats too jph, Carthy was a man possessed there.

Good to see Dombrowski winning a place in the GC, but I have mixed feelings with him in second. A third consecutive Grand Tour in the second place must be rough.

Great stuff, wouldn't have expected Gilanipoor and van see Sanden to be our bright spots at this Tour but I'll take it.

Great recovery from last stage, but still a shame to barely miss another podium. Yesterday was really expensive and this impressive ride didnt even get us that close to the Top 10. I know that this is an strong field, so keeping 12th tomorrow wouldnt really be that bad in the end, but still, we need it.
What a weird race tho

A small respite, but it's far from over.
Even if we see another breakaway succeed tomorrow, we can't forget that Madrazo will likely manage to grab some decent points on the Champs-Elysées as the yellow jersey against exhausted sprinters, even more so with PCM18's slipstream advantage. Just being within 25 points of him won't be enough.
Please AI, be kind to us one last time. Gazelle will win the ProTour anyway.

Who'd have thought last year that my boys Velits and Gilanipoor would both be in the top 5 of a TDF stage this time around - a shame neither could top Carthy today who was on top form, but a great day and Gilanipoor even gave one last effort for Velits' GC ambitions for old time's sake, a great day to climb another spot, but of course still holding the breath for tomorrow's tough finale, hopefully he has left something in the tank still. Looking forward to it.

That's the way, Galta! Finally he went for it, and I thought he looked really good when he split the breakaway, even leaving Carthy behind for a short while. At that point I must admit I thought the stage win was very, very likely.
Carthy though, was simply too strong. Congratulations, jph! Seeing how the chase, or lack of chase, in Galta's group played out, I'm hopeful he tried to conserve energy to have another go at some breakaway fun on stage 20. He really needs to if that top 10 is going to be a reality. |

Good KoM fight. Had a tiny hope that Phinney could het plast Morton when he got a little gap to him, but he ran out of power again. Still his best day in the Alps though. Not happy with the way he lost some of the time earlier in the mountains, and ufortunately it's not a long way up to the podium in the end. 5th is still a decent result, but clearly not what we hoped for. Even though the end result is a bit below our hopes, we have to be very pleased with the performance. The team helped him good and we managed to have nine days in yellow and three stage wins. Now it's time for Champs-Élysées, and it would be cool if some of the guys have something left for a top 10 in the sprint.
Congrats on the stage win, Heine. A really 'all in' move with Henao and Guldhammer in the break, but it clearly paid off.
