I'd call that lucky rather then impressive. Contador has 1 DNF, last years Tour. Same for Quintana, last year's Vuelta crash.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

As the saying goes: Real champions doesn't crash, get sick or puncture
By the way am I the only one wondering about whether the agressive racing from Astana may have as much to do with getting Contador tired for the Tour as it has with the Giro?

Then my dad isnt a champion. He crashed, punctured and got sick during his first ever ride on a race bike

yeaah Nibali is lucky..winners usually are. Gt aces usually have some extra touch..to avoiding injures and crashes. Some how great form riders just keep avoiding it.
(same time i am sure that Pozzo was in great shape).
Talk that Contador can win TdF after this kind of Giro is almost ridiculous. |

So Astana thinks that if Tiralongo doesnt try to win people wont notice he is the most doped rider in the pelaton? Holy shit.
I bet you think Visconti is so much more believable, right?
Read my prior posts, the name is a joke really.
I have a pretty diverse taste in riders and besides being American really dont hate guys who have doped or may be doping.
I think shit like this is sad though.
Even if you don't care for Movistar the point and my question still stands... Calling out one rider is just dumb and/or naive...
Yes clearly because they are the same rider under the same circumstances, come on champ. |

One could fear it only gets worse for the rest of the race. Normally they would slow down and mark other potential podium riders. But perhaps good old vino and nibali wants Contador as fatigued as possible for the tour |

And to the guys claiming nibalis w/kg numbers were so crushing that Contador wouldnt follow nor beat him. Well let me give you a hint, when the field becomes so weak, when the race softens up due to lack of competition and lack of hard racing, it will be easiest to produce better numbers. In other words nobody pressured or could attack nibali at any point in tdf2014, which meant he arrived easier than normally to the final climbs, and therefore was less fatigued.
If none of the 3 superiorer to nibali crashes out, and all of them are at Their very best im 100% sure he cant follow in the climbings. He has yet to prove that he can match just one of the 3 others |

Don't really have time to do a Malkael-style preview, just thought I'd post some relevant profiles, maps for reference as they might be useful. This is imo the queen stage, with 4500m of altitude gain including the legendary Mortirolo (from Mazzo for the first time in 5 years) but others might disagree. Should see an interesting fight to get into the break (probably happening about now) on the first climb, and then all hell will break loose. All eyes will be on Astana today, what can they do to try and dislodge Contador this time? A 1-2 on the Mortirolo? Send Landa up ahead on the first "ascent" of the Aprica? Either way they have to try something and I'd be surprised if they didn't. Eyes will be focused on other contenders as well - can Amador survive again? Can Trofimov put in a repeat performance of Sunday's surprising ride? Many questions, but all will be played out soon on what promises to be a very exciting stage.

Eddy Merckx has never abandoned a GT as well. (although he was Disqualified from the 1969 Giro)

Yeah, he really should've abandoned the 1975 Tour
I mean, getting punched in the stomach and a few days later break your jawbone and still attack on the Champs-Elysée. He couldn't even eat solid food anymore those last days. And he wasn't even in the lead, 2nd behind Thevenet! That's a true Champion |

Tinkoff keeping a medium-strength break on a tight leash: Zardini Fernandez Armee Bookwalter Mihaylov Hesjedal Niemiec Felline Pellizotti de la Cruz Clarke. Only about 2 mins advantage as we head on to the first ascent of the Aprica.

Porte talking to Aus TV saying that his crash is giving him severe knee pains, hence why he couldn't continue.
Also spoke about how Astana by trying to take the race on early in the week have really hurt Aru physically and he won't put up much of a fight for Contador. He also thinks Konig is a decent shout for the podium.

I think the best thing he said was that the RV wasn't a great idea, basically said he would rather be around his teammates than seperated from them
