So that Froome book is about to hit shelves and the Sunday times published some extracts of Vuelta 2011 and TdF 2012. Good summary by CN. Might as well re-heat that old stew...
So, this is certainly now the pictures Froome wants to paint of himself to the public. Reiterate his version. I must say, Froome turns from a polite, uncharismatic goon to a rather pretentious and arrogant, even greedy upriser, who seems to be a bit over-ambitious and blended by signs of his presumed greatness after a good Vuelta 2011. Already going into the Tour with the prospect and goal of winning it after not even winning the Vuelta. Of course, apparently lots of teams wanted to sign him. I've only heard that of Movistar though, Unzue said though that during the Vuelta Froome's price got too high (then again, Movistar's budget isn't particularly high in comparison to Astana eg).
He also tries to justify his actions during the Tour and blames the Team and Wiggins for what was going down. He also comes off rather oblivious to his own persona at that time back then in my opinion. In that regard, he ultimately achieves the complete opposite of what he may have intended originally (to help people understand and approve of his actions): He confirms his total lack of respect for the team and particularly Wiggins at the time.
Please Wiggins, put three minutes on the cobblestones into this dude and hear him cry afterwards that it is dangerous to ride like that.

I know it's globalization and all that but I agree. I find it depressing that Grant Tours rarely start in their own country anymore.
Why? I think it's a good thing. I mean, take the Giro. It passes through Italy on 18 stages minimum, every year. Then take Ireland. Ireland might get the depart of a GT every ten or so years, for a maximum of three stages. Why should those three stages that hardly make a huge difference to the Italian fans go to Italy too, whereas it's great for Irish cycling?
Of course it should happen sometimes, but it should be a novelty, not an everyday occurrence.
Well, it is a novelty in the places where it starts, because obviously it doesn't always start in the same foreign places. Whereas it's more of an everyday occurence in Italy, France and Spain.
In a couple of years it will be novelty for the actual host country to have a grand depart.
No, it won't. The host country still have 18 stages of that GT, it won't be a novelty.

The grand depart though.
No offense, but I think the Ireland Giro is making you just a little bias.

I read those extracts in the Sunday Times as well and I agree with you... managing to make Wiggins look unarrogant is quite a feat The bit about the La Toussuire stage basically says that he attacked because he thought he could do a better job than Wiggins and that he had been wronged because he was stronger yet the team persisted with Wiggins as leader. What were they going to do? Say to Wiggins that they weren't going to bother supporting the yellow jersey anymore? So crass and arrogant

@BBL (No need for a big pyramid)
No, it's the possibility of a GT starting in Munich.
Though really, it's a great opportunity. What would a Grand Depart give France? Nothing, really. But for any country except for Italy, Spain, Belgium, NL and Switzerland, Le Tours Grand Depart would bring massive attenton to cycling, a sport which could really do with it, and it would also be the seasons only WT event.

I was all pro globalization (especially as we've booked tickets for Grand Depart this year) until I saw this just now.

I am for the idea to make GTs start in different countries every year and globalization of cycling as a sport, but this is just exaggeration and it's too much.

Idea: Let's start the Tour in Kenya

Obama could come support his home country and fellow Kenyan-born Chris Froome
Spoiler Just kidding. I'm 97.6395% sure Obama was born in the USA.
