I haven't heard a thing about cycling since the WC's, but the Froome saga revived that quickly. The sport is a strange one, it finds a light at the end of the tunnel, only to be closed at the last moment. Progress at least I thought had been achieved at least since the Contador scandal, but this latest scheme only decreases the sport's value and takes away from everything which makes cycling enjoyable.
Cycling incidentally is perhaps one of the toughest sports in the world. It combines several qualities and only the best can succeed in such an environment. In fact, the feat of riding 3500km's in 3 and a half weeks speaks volumes about the extremity of the sport and shows why many may act on this task by attempting to enhance their chance of survival and performance by any means.
Recently, commercialism in all sports (not only cycling) and confidentiality has led to poor reputation and this has been accentuated in the sport of cycling by it's stars. |

And now Trump is f*cking up cycling as well
(not being needlessly political, that was part of Orken's actual reason)

Make no mistake, sports aand politics were, are and will always be connected despite all of the attempts to distinguish them.
Örken's decision was tough and he knew it - he was so excited that he'd play at higher playing level and perhaps become big star. IMO he made the right decision as to avoid negative backlash in his homeland (which defied Trump along with other Muslim countries).

As a Portuguese i feel a big pride over the 2018 Volta ao Algarve team list.
13 WorldTour
3 Pro-Conti
9 Portuguese (including the academy where i rode (that turned conti team this year )
Also the parcours has been improving massively over the years imo and i am really excited over who can show up here!

Horrible couple of days for ISC and JLT Condor. It never gets any easier waking up to news like this... RIP Jason.

Really looking forward for the race, pity CCC missed out an invitation, otherwise Amaro Antunes would smash the opponents. If only Algarvia and Vuelta a Andaluzia didn't clash in the calendar... they could have even better and denser fields riding both races consecutively if they were held in two seperate weeks! But still very nice pack.
Also, terrible to hear about Lowndes's passing. Same reason yet again. Oh well. So young as well, awful, awful. |

So sad, as someone the same age and from the same part of the world, this really hit home for me. RIP mate
I found a beautifully written tribute from Adam Phelan, one of Jason's team-mates at Drapac. Well worth a look if you have 5 minutes.
