"Where were you"? asks Kreder
"I worked my butt off"! exclaims Flügel
"Sorry guys, didn't have the legs" squeaks Cav
We should be delighted with 2nd and 4th but after the thrill of unexpectedly catching the break and getting a decent lead out to miss out on a win again was so frustrating.
On reflection we had a much better race than Down Under getting a good points haul and achieving our top 5 goal.
Congrats to sgdanny, fintas (so jealous ), SN and TMM for your top placing.
Big thanks Tamijo for some top quality reporting and nicely framed screenshots.

And we drop a couple of the few points we were looking to score. Ugh, awful race. Move on to the next. Congrats to the winners.

Oh come on, we didn't make a single breakaway, what a pathetic team performance.

Milan so close
Manarelli injured after his crash so I won't blame him. Betancourt did not gain any places but that would've been a miracle, but we did finish fourth in the teams classification which gives us points!
Anyway, thanks Tamijo for the wonderful reports. Congratulations to sgdanny on the overall victory.

First of all thanks for some great reports. They were really a joy to read!
As for our performance I was happy to see the guys active in breaks and fairly happy with Gautiers riding up to the last hilly stage. That was a stupid time loss!
Overall 7th in the GC isn't bad but with two stupid time losses along the way I can't say I'm content with it either.

Wow, I missed my former rider Le Gac doing incredibly well, great to see him getting a stage win and a good GC spot here.
Vogt in 13th not too bad I guess.

Venter the star of the race for sure. We couldn't even get climb by climb tactics right with 2 riders in the Stage 6 breakaway, but persistency evidently paid off. An interesting benefit to having three 77 hill riders perhaps, that one of them goes in the breakaway - be good to see if that can repeat over the season.
Pity that my low end GC hopes capitulated on Stage 5, with Teklit and Hategaka falling off a cliff. One of the three delivered something though, and that's the target in all of these hilly races.
Thanks for the reports Tamijo.

16th and 21st are not the GC points I wanted here, but at least we got the stage win and some exposure I guess. Exposure doesn't stop you from relegating though.
Thanks to Tamijo, some great reports throughout the race.

What better way would be to finish this race ... great race by Kupfernalgel, three sprint stages with a third a second and a first place, more regular would be impossible. The victory in the points classification is undoubtedly more than deserved, the rest of the team was up to what I expected, Costa in the top 10, Vogt well above what would be expected in an excellent 13th place. We were also very active in the breaks and we were rewarded with the 2nd place by teams. Overall this race ended up surpassing my best expectations.
Congrats to Froome and Fablok... I loved the reports thanks for the great work Tamijo

GC wise not the greatest race in the end, but very pleased that Serebriakov not only bothered to sprint, but actually made it to the podium
Thanks for the consistent and good reporting throughout Tamijo

Just catching up
What a race for us this has been! No actual wins and it's kinda bitter-sweet to have come close in so many occasions both in the stages and the various standings. Without the break win in stage 6, this race would have had a sweeter taste for us, but what can you do, not sure what I would have said if Ulissi lost the GC by 1"
All in all, this more than makes up for all the points lost in TDU. Cracking performance by Diego of course, but great stuff from Lavery especially and Tanovitchii too also scoring GC-related points - that should see us more than surpassing the 200 points mark for this one. Very happy all things considered.
Thanks Tamijo for the fantastic reports and of course congratulations to danny and everyone else who has had a good race.

A little late but also thanks to you for the great reports, Tamijo!
I had no big hopes for this race, so it's great to see my team came back with a stage win by Boonratanathanakorn! After no major break away result from him last season, it's awesome he delivers so early in this new season. Moazemi after Colombo again with a very average result.
Congrats to sgdanny and Froome. Already any information about his Salbutamol levels in the tests carried out at the Tour de Pologne? |
