Quite happy with my team as well. A good mix of strong leaders and big talents. In especially as the leaders aren`t very old except for 2-3.
Lopez, Meintjes, Haig, Kudus, Senni, Geoghegan Hart all have big room for impreovement left. Hopefully showing this in 2018.
Below the 2017 teams listed still. Haven`t checked for all transfers yet but Roelandts for example got picked early by me due to the team change. Same for Moreno, who should be with "new" Cannondale even though I haven`t seen a 1000% confirmation yet except the Vaughters confirmation.

I actually really like my team. I'm more than sure... It'll end like always. Bad. I think it's my best team from those 3 years. I have a lot of great youngsters with amazing potentials of being someone in future. I'm not so sure about Jules and Lietaer. It was my worst round this time. I could have had better riders.

Team Croatia
is that name even appropriate with those riders?
1. | | Warren Barguil | 26 | Fortuneo - Oscaro | 790 | Climber | 2. | | Lilian Calmejane | 25 | Direct Energie | 894 | Puncheur | 3. | | David Gaudu | 21 | FDJ | 352 | Climber | 4. | | Sören Kragh Andersen | 23 | Team Sunweb | 478 | Powerhouse | 5. | | Luke Durbridge | 26 | Mitchelton - Scott | 484 | Powerhouse | 6. | | Danny van Poppel | 24 | LottoNL - Jumbo | 287 | Sprinter | 7. | | Sebastien Reichenbach | 28 | FDJ | 234 | Climber | 8. | | Diego Rosa | 28 | Team Sky | 209 | Puncheur | 9. | | Remi Cavagna | 22 | Quick Step Floors | 281 | Powerhouse | 10. | | Neilson Powless | 21 | LottoNL - Jumbo | 216 | Stage Racer | 11. | | Marko Kump | 29 | CCC Sprandi - Polkowice | 238 | Sprinter | 12. | | Kristian Sbaragli | 27 | Israel Cycling Academy | 172 | Sprinter | 13. | | Peter Kennaugh | 28 | Bora - Hansgrohe | 137 | Stage Racer | 14. | | Tanel Kangert | 30 | Astana Team | 58 | Stage Racer | 15. | | Alan Banaszek | 20 | CCC Sprandi - Polkowice | 149 | Sprinter | 16. | | Mads Würtz Schmidt | 23 | Team Katusha - Alpecin | 160 | Powerhouse | 17. | | Sebastian Henao | 24 | Team Sky | 123 | Climber | 18. | | Joseph Dombrowski | 26 | EF Education First - Drapac | 58 | Climber | 19. | | Lukasz Wisniowski | 26 | Team Sky | 105 | Powerhouse | 20. | | Hermann Pernsteiner | 27 | Bahrain Merida | 188 | Climber | 21. | | Matvey Mamykin | 23 | Burgos - BH | 67 | Climber | 22. | | Benat Intxausti | 31 | Team Sky | 0 | Climber | 23. | | Michal Schlegel | 22 | CCC Sprandi - Polkowice | 147 | Climber | 24. | | Domen Novak | 22 | Bahrain - Merida | 71 | Climber |
Round 5 was a tough one. 2 Potential mid-age climbers with Dombrowski and Henao. 2 Powerhouses with Team Captain upside in Würtz and Wisniowski. The future sprint star Banaszek for the CCC sprint 1-2 punch.
Round 6 was the one to pick climbers. 5 riders picked, all climbers. 4 upside riders, with different storys. Novak and Schlegel as future stars, Mamykin with his experiment at Burgos. Pernsteiner as the cross project new in WT with plenty of scoring potential.
And the biggest bet of all, one I picked for the love of cycling: Benat Intxausti. Hopefully the basque can turn back the clock after the years of illness.
We missed Robert Power, congratulations on that pick.

When all the others have done the same I guess, they also have a chance to add riders before your picks. And when Roturn has time to finish it of course
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

After looking through the list, there are about 27 other riders who I would happily take. The top 10 choices (from which I should get my two) are all probably better picks than Kononenko and Minnaard too

The final teams can be found in the 2nd post now: https://pcmdaily.c...st_1270327
Last year Selwink has won with 7832 points ahead of trekbmc (7398) and sutty (7376) and also marcovdw (7357) was close to the podium.
Unfortunately Selwink is not able to defend the title in 2018, but luckily the other 3 are all again part of this game.
2016 saw a bit higher number with 8114 for jseadog1 delivering the win. Yet again trekbmc was the best of the rest with 7954 and showing his great consistency over the last two editions.
Let`s see if he can finally take the win.
So for a first overview here the 2018 teams with their 2017 CQ total points.
Manager | 2017 | jseadog1 | 9503 | jaxika | 9385 | Tamijo | 8875 | ivaneurope | 8804 | hillis91 | 8692 | AbhishekLFC | 8479 | matt17br | 8238 | baseballlover312 | 7876 | OZrocker | 7784 | Marcovdw | 7720 | ember | 7405 | dominox | 7304 | alexkr00 | 7158 | jandal7 | 7095 | roturn | 6806 | Aquarius97 | 6264 | NicoVirenque | 6149 | trekbmc | 6032 | Croatia14 | 5898 | sutty68 | 5643 | Ollfardh | 4632 |
trekbmc is rather down below with 6032 points only and hence might struggle to repeat his last two performances. That said, he also was mid table only before with ~6300 points each and hence apparently picked very good with quite a few better performers and his gamble on Nizzolo in the first round could potentially see yet another huge overperformer as his 2017 season was far, far worse than the years before, so will be thrilling.
jseadog1 on paper yet again with a top team but it must be said, that he is yet again going mainly for high CQ scorers and hence needs consecutive strong performances which absolutely failed last edition.
Ollfardh yet again being pretty far down which shows his love for the talents and hence is yet again an expected overperformer if just one or two do have some kind of breakthrough season.
And then also interesting to watch if sutty68 is able to defend the podium. On a first view a very interesting team. 8 Brits another 6-7 native English speakers and the incredible number of ~10 sprinters, mainly picked in the first couple rounds and hence top scoring surely comes on the flat terrain for him.
May the 2018 season start soon with the first Nationals and then the events in San Luis, Australia and so on.
Updates hopefully will come more regular than last year, even though I already can say, that I will miss parts of the early season in January/February due to a 3-week journey. |

Just a small preview for the season start Down Under.
For the moment 37 Fantasy League riders are on the provisional startlist. Though many teams still missing and hence just a first overview.
Most participants with ember (5), then as the name says OZrocker (4) and the trio AbishekLFC, jandal7 and roturn (3).
Regarding the actual top riders:
Viviani (Jaxika)
Pozzovivo (baseballlover312)
Dennis (AbishekLFC)
Ewan (NicoVirenque)
Haas (ember)
So be prepared for the first big scorings by those.
Regarding the early season NCs jandal7 in NZ and in Australia AbishekLFC, Aquarius97, ember, roturn, NicoVirenque, OZrocker, Tamijo and sutty look the most popular in those events.
No information yet about early season events in Tropicale, San Juan/Luis and Tachira. |

Thank you very much for the previews Roturn!
Interesting what you said about us going for less 2017 points this year, Nizzolo of course had a really low score last season below 100 points and so did De Bie Navardauskas and Haussler, while Terpstra, Debusschere, Atapuma, Siutsou and Brambilla scored quite low, so maybe a more risky year for us, to try to finally nab first, but could all come crashing down if a couple fail, especially with a lot riding on Nizzolo.
As for racing Down Under, I've got just Brendan Canty for the Aus Nats, who almost won last year but counted the laps wrong. Then also for TDU have Canty and Navardauskas, where both could be interesting.
Awesome looking through the teams, perhaps some predictions (or previews?) are in order? Might consider making one if I can find the time (just tried to do a quick one, but was so worried I was overlooking the lower down riders in the squads )

Even when I try to take an unbiased view and only take one Aussie rider, it still works out that way

Yeah I look good for NZ bats but you know whichever bastard it was who stole Cooper will get the win
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Not sure what to think of my team. As always, I don't follow the CT ranks close enough to know who will have a breakout, so I end with my veterans who could decline than I'd like. But if they put together good years as they've shown before, I could still perform well.

Obviously a close to perfect start for my team, with Edmondson winning the Australian NC. Also nice to see O'Connor get involved and mixing it with riders that should be a level or two above him. Will be interesting to see how he does in the TDU, and very cool if he shows there that he has taken a signifcant step compared to 2017.
Haas also doing well in the NC, just as expected, really. Though, I definitely fear he'll struggle to copy his TDU from last year, as he was great there. Kind of expect a worse performance compared to that, at least CQ ranking points speaking |

Australian National Championships
The Australian NC saw ember winning big. Not that surprising seeing him with 3 riders participating and all of them on the score board. 2 even in the top3 with Edmondson and Haas.
Aquarius, Abhishek and NicoVirenque as well with decent scoring while Croatia surely had hoped for more than Durbridge`s 30 points seeing him being one of the RR top favourites but instead is out for some weeks now with a broken collarbone.
dominox, matt and OZrocker with 1 rider each but a 0 pointer, which might be almost as low as Tamijo`s 5 points on 3 riders combined.

Small Fantasy League field in New Zealand. Only in the Road Race as well and with jandal as expected listing 3 of the 4 starters, he is the "big" scorer with Tamijo just like in Australia not having NC luck.
Though the big points in New Zealand went to undrafted riders.

Next up startlist updates for Tachira, San Juan, Tropicale, TdU. A lot already made public. Some missing though and hence going to wait a few more days. Likely end of week or early next week with almost 100% overviews. |

Strong start for Ember!
Canty gets our first points on the board this season, hoping the TDU will be a bigger race for him though, uphill finishes will suit him better.
