In real life, Gregor Muhlberger took the race lead after the first Mountain stage. Here, he comes last by a distance
The sprints for Afewerki were great to watch, particularly the 3rd place. Nice to see the aggression from Eyob, and the solid climbing from Heymes. Top 20 in GC may be possible for him, but won't be easy.
First strike to Morton in the overall race, but he needs to gain time before the time trial. Annoying to see Galta and Kudus get struck down by the AI.

Nice ride by Pavel on 14th, very cool to see.
And always nice to see Morton doing well, we made him the rider he is now

Good sprint by Herklotz on stage 3 and a decent Top 10 on the first mountain stage, although I would have traded that for better AI for Lecuisiner.
Nothing is lost yet.
Also it's great to see Zabel delivering for VW. I would really like to check his bike for its emission values though...

Good show by Carapaz here.. top ten is definetely the target here!
Strong ride by Morton, not very surprising though considering I bet on him

Ikibe
That 5th place is nowhere near where I expected him to finish, awesome job It's also great to see how he managed to finish that high, really bold guy he is, surely a great signing for Actavis.
GenTavisGaz definitely picking up more good results than expected, Formolo also with a solid enough ride. Generali's guys are being a tad more quiet but what am I expecting?
As someone else already said, the favourites are really delivering so far, never seen such a "predictable" race under this aspect during this season. It was really nice to see that Morton didn't really hurt himself at all, probably that fall was a motivation booster indeed. Looking forward to see how the next mountain stages will pan out!
Thanks for the great reports SN.

Superb show from Kolar, KoM jersey and a decent place on the stage, great racing! Nice stage for La Lavandier too, good to see him doing well riding under our colours.

Hmm not the best stage here. Lecuisinier losing more than expected really, but doing nothing for so long usually does that to you. Atleast he didn't fuck up completely.
Also a crash to my rider in the KOM hurts a bit.
Oh well. Better luck next time, but it looks like Morton is going to take this one - Atleast I put all my virtual money on him in the bettings.

Morton!
Probably the first Oz victory in a mountain top finish, so that alone would be a good feeling! Morton seems to be on it and a minute gained is nice. Lecusinier showing he's similar strong though - good ride after he missed out on the first big moves.
Thanks for the report! That Pluchkin reference was both spot on and heart breaking

Hehe - putting the cat amongst the pigeons there.
Great attacking ride from Morton, rubbish Spilak like riding from The Kitchen man.

Some big gaps already, but Morton vs Lecuisinier is still on!

Such ride will give him a good gap to the next before the long ITT.
But I had hoped to be closer to the podium to be honest. Possible all those little attacks did cost him a bit more energy in the end.
Still not unhappy with the performance. Solid ride. Really happy to see Morton as 1st here. Lecuisinier though with all chances left. |

Shame Kudus lost so much time, although hopefully this allows him to attack a bit more. Plenty of stages still left in this race.
Really happy to see Uwizeyimana active though and on the attack just like Manfred on previous stages. Hopefully they continue to show themselves. |

Annoying that the break decided to sit up - was so happy to see Lehtinen in there...
Can't quite decide if I'm annoyed that Khalifa crashed or happy that his NC-jersey got caught on a screenshot
Anyway nice to see Cort getting a strong result waring our jersey. All in all a good day out for the team.

Happy to see Borisavljevic out on the attack, at least he made an attempt.

For stage 4, Zabel is really proving his class here with another sprint victory, congrats again, Heine!
A super Morton on stage 5, cool to see him do that well, hanging on to the lead he built before what was pre-stage supposed to be the decisive climb.
A pity Galta decided to sit in the peloton and not react before it was far too late, but that's how it is. Great to see Hoelgaard in the breakaway though, and hopefully he can give Kolar a challenge for the polkadot jersey, eventhough the Slovakian is the better climber.
Thanks for both reports, SN! |

When I saw Strava chasing the early break I thought Kung was going to have a really good day but it looks like he forgot to follow the attacks and has now lost a lot of time. Hopefully this will give him freedom later on to attack to his hearts content and get a stage win or gain back some of that lost time.
Morton was super strong there and it's good to see his crash hasn't effected him at all as that keeps the GC fight more interesting if he's still a part of it, hopefully Shikai can fight back on the other Mountains and show the power of Asian cycling.
And it's a shame Muhlberger isn't as strong as his real life self, but I doubt I'd have been able to get him if he was.

Great stage that! Should make the race very interesting.
I'm pleased with La Lavandier and how he is riding here. I've got a soft spot for him after picking him up for minimum wage when I first started.
